Malaysia’s trade outlook for 2026 remains positive, underpinned by resilient domestic demand and stronger tourism momentum following a record RM3.06 trillion trade performance in 2025.

At an event to announce Malaysia’s trade performance for 2025 on Tuesday (Jan 27), Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said this year Matrade will organise 18 major trade fairs, including participation in prestigious events like Farnborough International Airshow and SEMICON West for aerospace and E&E industries.

00:00As this is English guest, ladies and gentlemen, today is not just a normal celebration.
00:09We gather here to commemorate an important milestone that is the highest trade value ever recorded in the national history.
00:21This achievement tells the world something very simple.
00:25It tells that Malaysia is credible, Malaysia is trusted, Malaysia delivers with a tremendous work, with a God's will.
00:38It kept moving forward in 2025 and Alhamdulillah in 2025, ladies and gentlemen, we broke yet another ceiling with a total trade-crossing 3 trillion mark
00:53for the first time, reaching 3.06 trillion ringgit Malaysia and increase of 6.3%.
01:04In the meantime, export climbed further to 1.6 trillion, expanded 6.5% and imports too, rose 1.5 trillion.
01:19Interestingly, our trade surplus was valued at 151.8 billion, which is about almost 9.2% increase.
01:31And indeed, with that surplus, it marks that it is 28 consecutive years, Malaysia posted a positive trade surplus in the road.
01:43So, we chose to widen our reach beyond family roots, turning emerging markets into a new corridor of growth,
01:54the like of Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and also Central Asia.
02:01As a result, we saw strong export growth in markets like Yemen, which searched 49.7%.
02:13Uzbekistan 27%, Puerto Rico 10%, Kenya an increase of 9.9%, almost 10%.
02:25Even the country, with the smaller trade volume, so exponential growth, such as Sudan, 325.2% increase.
02:39Kyrgyzstan 225.8% increase.
02:45Uruguay 193.4%.
02:48Zambia 173.3%.
02:54And finally, our brotherly country, Palestine 17.2% increase in export.
03:03This is a proof that Malaysia businesses can go far whenever we open the right doors.
03:14Malaysia enters 2026 with a high spirit of optimism.
03:202026 will test our resilience, but it will also reveal our capacity to lead.
03:27This year, Madrid is rolling out a strong program to expand markets and elevate Malaysia's trade presence globally.
03:37And I strongly encourage all of you, the exporters, the trade associations, the business community,
03:46to participate in the 18th trade expo and fest, which has already been lined up.
03:51This year, among others, are Panborough Road in July, Tokyo Games Show in September,
04:01Inno Trains in September, Semicon West, which is a very huge semiconductor expo,
04:10and finally, our very own iconic program, MIHAS in Kuala Lumpur and also MIHAS in Frankfurt.
