00:53You were so phenomenal in this film, and I couldn't believe it when I heard that you actually had never played the piano, or you didn't really know how to play before this, is that right?
01:00No, it was a frantic period of strengthening my voice and trying to learn the rudiments of piano.
01:07If I claimed every piece of piano playing in the movie, then every piano player in the world would know that I was lying.
01:12But I did work very hard to try and learn what I could, and fool as many people as I could.
01:20You fooled your way to this, that's pretty good.
01:23That's my job, it's all about fooling, that's what it is.
01:26Well, it's such a nice family night for you, dedicated the award to your mom.

01:30And then you're here with your sisters, and Elton John is a member of your family now too.
01:34I know.
01:34What have you learned about Elton John that has been the most surprising thing throughout this process?
01:38I think the thing that's truly inspiring about Elton is he's a survivor, you know, someone who had extraordinary God-given ability, but has faced a fair few demons.
01:50Some within him, some outside of him, and he's come through it and become one of the most successful, influential artists the world has ever seen.
01:59And, you know, it's my great privilege to play him, and it's something that I'll be proud of and remember for the rest of my life.

02:26but sitting next to him and performing, I know, was a big moment for you.

02:31It's wonderful.
02:31The thing about performing with Elton is he's phenomenally nurturing, and actually, if you watch any of the videos of us performing together,
02:37he knows that I'm, it's not my trade, you know, I'm an actor, I'm a sometimes singer,
02:43but he's someone who really looks after you on stage.
02:46You know, there's a few little mistakes I make, and he accommodates them because he's, one, a consummate professional,
02:53but also just a phenomenally kind person.
02:57And we've got a really lovely relationship, and the whole, you know, aspect of us singing together
03:03and performing his music together is just the cherry on top of the cake of what has been Rocketman.
