00:00Machu Picchu. It's up there with Stonehenge, with the Pyramids of Giza.
00:05Welcome to Ms. Mojo. And today we're looking at five popular tourist destinations that live up
00:11to the hype and five tourist traps to avoid like the plague. The lean, of course, is what makes
00:17the tower more than just another magnificent example of ancient architecture. Avoid. La Rambla,
00:24Barcelona, Spain. On paper, La Rambla sounds incredible. A wide boulevard slicing through
00:31the heart of Barcelona. It's full of life and energy. In practice, though, it's much less
00:36idyllic. The crowds have returned to Las Ramblas, a testament to Barcelona's resilient spirit.
00:43This is a city that refuses to be cowed. You'll be dealing with shoulder-to-shoulder traffic.
00:48Tour groups, street performers, and souvenir stands turn a simple stroll into a slow shuffle.
00:54Every afternoon at the same time we went there to walk, but it was destiny that we said,
00:59let's go to another place. Many of the restaurants lining the street lean on their location rather
01:05than their cooking, charging premium prices for meals that rarely impress. Pickpocketing is also
01:10a real problem here. In Spain's most visited city, pickpockets are rife. La Rambla isn't a disaster,
01:17but it's rarely the highlight visitors hope for. Wander a few blocks into the surrounding
01:22neighborhoods, and you'll find better food, quieter streets, and a much more relaxed Barcelona vibe.
01:29Worth it. Eiffel Tower, Paris, France. Yes, it's crowded. Yes, it's touristy. And yes,
01:35it's absolutely worth it. As Americans, it is kind of what we always see in France.
01:39And for him, it would be amazing because... I've never seen it before, and it's my first time in
01:44France. The Eiffel Tower has earned its status as a tourist destination. Whether you ride the elevator or
01:52Paris spreads out beneath you. But to get up there, you have to take the stairs, and there's 674 of
01:58them. I do it again in heartbeat. Sunset and nighttime visits are especially magical, as the city lights
02:04twinkle like stars. The tower itself, too, gleams like a beacon at night. That said, not every experience
02:11there delivers equal value. The on-site, fine dining option comes with eye-watering prices. The food is good,
02:18but not worth the blow to your wallet. Most visitors walk away happier, grabbing a croissant
02:23afterward, and soaking in the view for free from below. Come for the history and the scenery,
02:29but be selective about your cash. Nothing screams, I'm in Paris, more than turning a corner, and then
02:34boom, there's the Eiffel Tower. And she's looking better than ever. Avoid the Louvre, Paris, France.
02:42Arguably the most famous art museum on earth. The Louvre is packed with priceless art.
02:47It's also one of the world's worst tourist traps. The experience often feels rushed, crowded,
02:53and exhausting. Long lines snake around the building, sometimes stretching into hours-long
02:58waits. Workers say they're not built for crowds that big. If you've been there, it doesn't matter
03:05what time of the year you go, it's going to be crowded, but the summertime is absolutely crazy.
03:10Inside, massive crowds make quiet appreciation nearly impossible, as visitors are bumped and shuffled
03:17along. Bottlenecks around headline pieces only add to the frustration. Staff have raised concerns
03:23about chronic understaffing, forced overtime, and working conditions. In recent years, the museum has
03:30even closed temporarily due to staff strikes and protests tied to overcrowding. Warning that the home
03:36of the Mona Lisa is buckling under the weight of mass tourism, leaving hot, sweaty tourists with
03:42tickets in hand waiting outside. The Louvre isn't lacking in masterpieces, just breathing room. Paris
03:48offers plenty of smaller museums where art feels more personal. While workers rush to move the art to
03:54safety as the river Seine swells, making it all the more worrisome, a lot of the Louvre's priceless pieces
04:00are stored underground. Worth it. The Great Wall. China. Few landmarks feel as overwhelming in person
04:07as the Great Wall. While it can't actually be seen from space, its size is awe-inspiring. It stretches
04:14across mountains and valleys in a way that makes photos feel almost dishonest. Walking along, it brings
04:20an immediate sense of scale, history, and sheer human effort. And over a thousand years later, the Ming
04:26dynasty would take things even further, creating the monument we see today. Some sections are fully
04:33restored and easy to access. Others remain rugged and wild, offering quieter, more atmospheric experiences.
04:41The views shift constantly as the wall curls over ridge lines, vanishing into the horizon. The Great Wall
04:47is an enduring symbol of ancient China. A destination like no other. Crowds can gather at the most famous
04:55spots, so timing and location matter. Pick the right section, and the Great Wall delivers one of the
05:01most unforgettable walks on earth. What's your favorite part of the Great Wall? Every section is connected
05:07with my life in years of history. I like all of it. Avoid. Leaning Tower of Pisa, Italy. The Leaning Tower
05:15of Pisa is instantly recognizable. And that's largely the problem. Most visits amount to standing in a
05:22crowded square, waiting your turn to take the same forced perspective photo as everyone else.
05:28The tower itself is impressive from an engineering standpoint, but the surrounding experience is
05:42brief and heavily commercialized. Entry tickets are limited and tightly timed, offering only a short
05:48climb with little room to linger. Half a million visitors a year in pursuit of their Kodak moment
05:54gasp their way up the nearly 300 stone steps that spiral to the top. Outside, the area is packed with
06:00souvenir stalls and tour groups, which can drain the charm fast. Pisa has real history and beauty
06:07beyond the tower, but the landmark often overshadows it. If you go, keep expectations modest or consider
06:14exploring Italy's many richer, more immersive sites instead. The tower of Pisa is located in the
06:20Campo de Miracole, or the Field of Miracles, strikes me as perfectly apt because the tower
06:27should have toppled, in fact, centuries ago. Worth it. Machu Picchu, Peru. There it is.
06:36Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu feels unreal the second it enters view. Perched high in the Andes,
06:42the ancient Inca citadel blends stonework, mountains, and mist into something that feels almost magical.
06:4870 miles from Cuzco, there rises above us one of the great cities of the world,
06:53a city where no one lives. This is the Inca stronghold of Machu Picchu.
06:59Reaching it takes effort, either by train, hike, or both, but that buildup leads to an incredible
07:04payoff. Wandering the terraces and ruins gives a strong sense of how carefully the site was designed
07:10to work with the landscape, not against it. Machu Picchu often experiences earthquakes,
07:16but because of the stone's exceptional cut and fit, they bounce during tremors,
07:21and then are able to easily fall back into position. It's well-regulated and carefully managed,
07:26but that's part of what keeps it pristine. When the mist clears, the site feels like an ancient
07:31moment frozen in time. That the Spaniards never came here. Every other one they found in Peru,
07:37they destroy. Avoid Cairo, Egypt. Cairo hits you like an ancient Egyptian brick and never really
07:44lets up. The city is loud, crowded, and relentlessly busy. Its traffic can make epic journeys out of
07:51short distances. Many visitors report constant scams and aggressive street hawkers, especially near major
07:58sites. You can find all kinds of crimes because of the absence of any control. Helpful strangers are
08:04common, often expecting money after the fact. Petty crime, including pickpocketing and theft,
08:09is a real concern in crowded areas, adding stress to an already intense experience. Even iconic locations
08:16like the nearby Giza can feel chaotic.
08:19Streets are very narrow, which doesn't allow for like implements or fire engines or even police car
08:28to enter this neighborhood. Cairo has an extraordinary history,
08:32but it asks a lot from travelers in return. Without a guide, careful planning, and strong
08:38nerves, the city can feel less like an adventure and more like an endurance race. The Cairo I
08:43remembered where I lived for a year was this. Busy, noisy, full of life. Worth it. Petra, Jordan.
08:52Petra rewards patients in the best possible way. The approach alone sets the tone, as a narrow canyon
08:58slowly opens to reveal one of the most striking facades on earth. Carved directly into rose-colored
09:05rock, the ancient city is somehow both monumental and intimate at the same time.
09:10All coming to Petra to enjoy what the Persians called a paradeza, a pleasure resort, a little bit
09:18of heaven on earth. Beyond the famous treasury, Petra stretches on with tombs, temples, and stairways
09:25that invite slow exploration. It's a physically demanding visit, but the skill and craftsmanship
09:31make every step feel earned. And so you have this combination of people just adoring it and going
09:36where they want and they're allowed to, but it's an incredibly sensitive geographical site. It's all
09:41made of sandstone. Petra isn't merely a single photo stop, but a full day experience that keeps unfolding
09:48the farther you walk. Long after you leave, the place will linger inside you,
09:53making it one of those rare destinations that truly lives up to its reputation.
10:01Avoid. Times Square. New York. New York.
10:04Good morning. This is Ryan Seacrest here in New York, where the crowds of revelers are already
10:10beginning to arrive in Times Square. Times Square looks electric in photos, but being there is another
10:17story. The peep show theaters may have long been replaced by kitschy stores. Still,
10:22the area is relentlessly crowded, loud and overstimulating, with flashing ads competing
10:28for attention from every direction. Walking even a single block can feel like an obstacle course of
10:33tourists, costumed characters, and street performers angling for tips.
10:38Hello, New York City. I'm Ryan Seacrest. Are you ready to see the Times Square ball?
10:44Be great. Prices for food, drinks, and souvenirs are famously inflated. Scams and aggressive
10:50solicitations are common. Despite its fame, Times Square offers very little of what actually makes
10:56New York special. Locals avoid it whenever possible, and many visitors find themselves eager
11:02to escape after just a few minutes.

11:30For more than 100 years, she has stood tall in New York Harbor, a national treasure and a symbol
11:42of freedom, democracy, and the American dream. The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island work best
11:48as a single experience. The ferry ride alone sets the mood, with skyline views that ease you out of
11:54the city and into American history. Up close, you can feel the power and sense of freedom that Lady
12:00Liberty would have for incoming immigrants. Ellis Island deepens that impact. Walking through the
12:05former immigration hall puts real faces and stories behind the concept of the American dream.
12:11The first Ellis Island immigration station opened on January 1, 1892 in New York Harbor to manage the
12:18increasing number of migrants coming to America. It takes time and planning, but the payoff is emotional
12:24rather than flashy. It may not be the highlight of your TikTok feed, but Ellis Island will mean a lot if
12:30your ancestors passed through its halls. No, I really do want to go. You've been, Nora? Signed in at
12:35Ellis Island, my grandmother. Is that right? From Ireland? Yes, in 1920. What a great story.
12:39Not every adventure lives up to the song. Which destination surprised you for better or worse?
