00:00This is Police Interceptors and you're riding with the pride of
00:10Northamptonshire Ace Pursuit drivers with air support and a crack dog
00:23unit. They bring down the bad guys, keep the streets safe and battle 24-7 in the war on crime.
00:44Crash, crash. Overflow now!
00:51This is what it is, isn't it? We find them, we lock them up.
00:53Coming up!
00:55A bid to escape, whatever it takes.
00:58We're being ran, we're being ran.
01:01Get down here! Get down here!
01:04Callum races to help a cop in need.
01:07Can't talk about now.
01:09Oh my God!
01:11And...
01:13We've got three in six.
01:15The end of the road for cross-border criminals.
01:18It's a sunny summer's evening shift.
01:36Interceptors Rob and Charlie have tracked down a wanted motor...
01:40Which a member of the public has seen being driven dangerously.
01:47There's no mistaking the cops want a word.
01:50Question is, will the bloke oblige?
01:54It's touch and go.
01:55Then the dodgy driver gives them his answer.
02:01Stand by.
02:08Stand by.
02:10Take it away.
02:11Try it, cierre.
02:12Stop it.
02:13Stand by.
02:14Please come in.
02:16Stop it.
02:17Stand by.
02:18Send by.
02:19Do you, keep on?
02:20Straight out the gate, he's put to the floor.
02:34We are Bootsley North, into town, occupants unknown, unknown as any juveniles or weapons
02:41on board.
02:43Reason for getaway, also unknown.
02:45However, the occupants are dropping clues, possibly drunk and behind the wheel of a two-ton
03:01truck, they need to get the driver stopped fast.
03:09Reinforcements are en route.
03:14Driving dog handler, Dan.
03:16Vehicle sales stop for the traffic cars, it's coming out in the villages at the moment between
03:23Malton and Pittsford, so we'll just end up there just in case we get a decal.
03:28A few miles away, the suspected drink driver has no intention of pulling over.
03:32We're only IPP advanced, so when they're closer, they'll take over.
03:38Rallying through country roads in low sun.
03:41Vehicle continues, mountain bridge, speed eight.
03:47Taking potentially lethal risks.
03:50Currently, we're having a risk.
03:54We are right, right.
03:56Down to drive by.
03:57To tell for a very high risk, he's nearly crashed into the ultimate vehicle, we're back
04:01to medium.
04:02Bouncing off the curb, he's inches from disaster with a delivery van.
04:08There's no way he can outgun the Interceptor's BMW 340.
04:21Good?
04:22Yeah.
04:23Just don't want to get around.
04:26We are left, left, straight to my lane.
04:30So he's leading Rob and Charlie onto tricky terrain.
04:33Speed five zero, medium risk.
04:37Taking full advantage of the Mitsubishi's ability to handle the country track.
04:42Going towards Pittsburgh Road.
04:46It's a rough ride in the low-slung 340.
04:51And it's about to get bumpier.
04:56Sabi's coming to a stop, wait.
04:59We're being rammed, we're being rammed.
05:04Minimal damage, they're up close to them.
05:08We're still Spectacle Lane.
05:11The runaway's going at breakneck speeds down the lane.
05:18My belt's not on, mate.
05:19Get it on.
05:20Get it on.
05:21Then you can.
05:22It's the Spectacle Lane.
05:23Towards Pittsburgh Road, generally.
05:24It's a free loss.
05:25It's a free loss.
05:26Right, it's gone right.
05:27Has it gone right?
05:28Has it gone right?
05:29And if ramming can't get the cops off his tail...
05:30Just keep going.
05:31Just keep going.
05:32Just keep going.
05:33Just keep going.
05:34Just keep going.
05:35Just keep going.
05:36Just keep going.
05:37Just keep going.
05:38Just keep going.
05:39Just keep going.
05:40Oh.
05:41Perhaps a DIY roadblock will do the job.
05:44Oh.
05:45It's off the lid.
05:46The roof to his vehicles come off.
05:48It's the lid for the truck.
05:49Get out of the way.
05:50Get out of the way.
05:51Get out of the way.
05:52Get out of the way.
05:53Charlie clears their path.
05:55Go.
05:56Yeah, I'm going.
05:57I'm trying.
05:58I'm trying.
05:59I'm trying.
06:00Currently, total loss of it to get out of the way.
06:01Out of my car.
06:02To get his roof out of the road.
06:05The last sighting was Spectacle Lane.
06:08Towards Pitzer Road.
06:09It's Pitzer Road.
06:10It's Pitzer Road.
06:11All they can do is follow the Mitsubishi's dust trail to a junction.
06:19Left.
06:20Or right.
06:21I think it's gone right.
06:22Just the dust.
06:23Good, left.
06:24Good, left.
06:25Good, left.
06:26Good, good.
06:27Yeah.
06:28Now we're at Pitzer Road.
06:29It's towards Melbourne.
06:30It's a total loss of this time.
06:33Mitsubishi man has vanished.
06:39So, vehicle is lost at the moment, so we've got loads of units now combing the area, trying
06:49So it's going to come out of a little rough road, which is just down here somewhere.
06:56On the way, Dan checks in with Rob and Charlie.
07:00He's reversed ramped there.
07:02He didn't look like he'd got any damage.
07:03I've got a tiny, tiny little hole in the middle of the grill.
07:07Oh, God, yeah, yeah.
07:08Because Spectacle Lane is rough.
07:10It's a hard road to ride up.
07:12It felt it.
07:13Yeah.
07:14Do you think he could have taken one of the gateways?
07:17I think he's come this way.
07:18Okay.
07:18I'll have a look in the college.
07:21Nice one.
07:21Cheers, boys.
07:30Before long.
07:35Another unit hits the jackpot.
07:38It's probably going to be abandoning a good 20-odd minutes now.
07:41With this heat, we might struggle a bit.
07:43We'll give it a go, though.
07:44So we'll get cola out.
07:45Oh, found it.
07:46It's just gone past.
07:46Ditched in a hedgerow, paint spilled everywhere, it's a shame there aren't any red footprints
07:54to follow.
07:56Hopefully Dan's crewmate, police dog Cola, will pick up a whiff of the runaway.
08:04Cola.
08:06Cola.
08:09Track on.
08:10Dan and super sniffer Cola have been crewmates for four years.
08:18Her favourite game is hide and seek.
08:20Yes, mate, we'll just cast around at the moment.
08:31And immediately she's detecting a track.
08:39Leading to a gate.
08:42Okay.
08:43Okay.
08:43Okay.
08:43Okay.
08:43Okay.
08:43Okay.
08:43Okay.
08:44Okay.
08:45Okay.
08:45Okay.
08:45Okay.
08:46Okay.
08:46Okay.
08:47Okay.
08:47Okay.
08:48Okay.
08:48Okay.
08:49Okay.
08:50We track quite nicely to this gateway, but I'm not getting anything further beyond here
09:02at the moment.
09:04But beyond the gate, the trail goes cold.
09:06So I think potentially they've been picked up.
09:09It's a standard old dog handler excuse, but I think that might be the case tonight.
09:14Nevertheless, seizing the Mitsubishi is a victory for the team, and there's no serious
09:19damage to Rob's Beamer.
09:21We might not have the driver.
09:22We might not have the driver or the occupants, but we've got the vehicle.
09:25He can't do anything as reckless or as stupid as dangerous again.
09:28I think someone told me once that they have to be lucky every time, and we have to be lucky
09:33once.
09:35So hopefully that's his luck all used up now, and next time it comes to 50-50, he'll pick
09:41wrong, and we'll catch up with whoever it is.
09:47After the pursuit, the driver phoned 999, claiming his car had been stolen.
09:52Enquiries placed him in the driving seat, and realizing he was out of luck, pleaded guilty
09:57to dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, and no insurance.
10:01He received a 16-month suspended prison sentence, and a four-year disqualification.
10:12Coming up...
10:13Come up!
10:15An off-duty officer under attack.
10:18Dude!
10:19Take over!
10:22And...
10:23When was the last time you had anything to eat or drink?
10:25About an hour and a half.
10:26The drink driver has a double fail.
10:29His tie is totally bold on this side.
10:31They say crime never sleeps, but interceptors rarely switch off, either.
10:54I have arrested someone off-duty.
10:57I was out for the day with my family, and we'd stopped somewhere at a supermarket.
11:02And someone barrelled through my wife and my son, followed by a security guard.
11:09This guy had been in and had stolen around about £1,000 worth of alcohol on sort of consecutive days.
11:17So we had a little foot chase, and then I caught him on a dual carriageway not too far away.
11:21And the kind people at the supermarket bought us our lunch for the day, as a way of thank you.
11:30Stepping in doesn't always end so well.
11:32An off-duty police officer is challenging two suspected shoplifters in a supermarket.
11:48One of the suspects has already been detained.
11:53He's a police officer, mate. He knows what he's doing.
11:55He's a police officer.
11:55He's going to have fun in your show.
11:57It's funny.
11:58However, his alleged accomplice in the grey hoodie isn't as willing to stay put.
12:02Head-butting the off-duty cop in the mouth.
12:22The raging bloke is only just getting started.
12:32Hey, listen, let go of me.
12:34Get him off me.
12:34Get him off me.
12:36Get off me.
12:37As the officer, without any kit, grapples to keep hold of the suspected shoplifter,
12:41all available units are blue lighting to the scene,
12:47including interceptor Callum Donoghue.
12:49Can we treat it as a 10-0?
12:52That's the off-duty officer has been smacked in the face.
12:57The officer's eye is being pulled.
12:59Any unit can make the very, very front counter.
13:03Get there as quick as we can.
13:05Help can't come soon enough because in the supermarket...
13:09Get off me.
13:10Get off me.
13:10Get off me.
13:10Get off me.
13:14Get off me.
13:16The violent suspect is raining down punches
13:18on the injured cop.
13:22Look, the people on the way...
13:24Look at me every day.
13:28I'll finish it.
13:30Wait, sorry.
13:31Get off me.
13:32If the situation wasn't dangerous enough,
13:34now suspect two is kicking off in the background.
13:38Get off me.
13:39Get off me.
13:40Get off me.
13:41Get off me.
13:41Get off me.
13:41Get off me.
13:41Get off me now.
13:42Move.
13:43Get off me.
13:44Get off me.
13:45Get off me now.
13:46Get off me.
13:48Get off me.
13:49Calm down.
13:49Start acquiring wrenches.
13:51Get off me.
13:51Get off me.
13:52Get off me.
13:54Get off me.
13:54Let go of me.
13:56Let go of me now.
13:59The standoff is reaching boiling point.
14:02Get off me.
14:05Get off me now.
14:07Move.
14:09Get off me.
14:10Oh, there's five men trying to keep hold of the suspected shoplifter.
14:17Yet still he's lashing out at the loan officer.
14:25First uniform on scene is Callum.
14:40He's not wasting any time getting this guy in cuffs.
15:04His mouthy mate is second in line.
15:08You are, aren't you?
15:10Watch, bro, watch.
15:13Unsurprisingly, everyone is keen to get this pair off to the nick pronto.
15:17Come here.
15:18Pull me nicely, bro.
15:19Come here.
15:20I'm not going to pull you nicely.
15:22Don't manhandle me.
15:23I beg you.
15:24Don't handle me.
15:25Oh, because I'm in cuffs now, yeah?
15:27Yeah.
15:28Move.
15:29They might moan about manhandling, but it's the off-duty officer who suffered a serious injury.
15:39No.
15:40So I've gone out here, detained him, taken him in.
15:44And then, basically, Z and then night of me.
15:47Knocking out my tooth.
15:48Knocking out your tooth?
15:51No.
15:52Last year, over 50,000 police officers in the UK were assaulted.
15:56Around one attack every ten minutes.
15:59It's hard not to get frustrated when people are assaulting your colleagues.
16:01I've never met that officer, but he's trying to do a good job and he's been assaulted.
16:04Knocking out his front tooth and caused quite serious facial injury.
16:08I'm not sure how much longer they could have been in the situation they were, had people
16:13not turned up.
16:14It's a team game.
16:15We've all got to support each other and that's exactly what we've done today.
16:20The charge of shoplifting was dropped at court and no legal action was taken against
16:25the man who was all mouth.
16:29However, the head-butting man pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency worker.
16:33He was ordered to pay £1,284 in compensation and sentenced to 23 weeks behind bars.
16:44I'd like to say no one got hurt.
16:46Unfortunately, this time a cop did get hurt.
16:48But it's the reality of the job and it's important to show this sort of thing
16:52because it's what we do on a day-to-day basis.
17:03Behind the wheel of a marked BMW 340i...
17:08Should we go and find some crime?
17:10..is interceptor Chris Guttridge.
17:12I'm still learning the area.
17:14I will go everywhere on a night shift.
17:16I'll touch every part of the county.
17:18After transferring from Thames Valley Police last month,
17:22he's quickly getting to grit with Northamptonshire's 914 square mile patch.
17:28Go ahead.
17:35Yes, yes.
17:37Sat perfectly, actually.
17:38About to get on the eastbound.
17:39Excellent.
17:44Control have received a report about a suspected drink driver
17:47coming down the A14 in a Ford Focus.
17:51So it should be coming from behind us.
17:55Plotting a prime position, Chris pulls in for a stakeout.
18:00So any second now we should be through.
18:02Hopefully.
18:08Policing is Chris's first and only job.
18:10Having joined up at 18,
18:12off-duty he's into clay pigeon shooting.
18:15Unless it's come off before, I don't think it would have missed it.
18:25However tonight, it's odd he hasn't yet got the drink driver in his sights.
18:30Swerving all over the roads.
18:32Doesn't mention that they're going particularly slow.
18:39Intel suggests the suspect should eventually pass Chris on their way home.
18:43You might not be on to a winner here and only.
18:55There we go.
19:02At last, he's got eyes on the prize.
19:04Finally got contact, contact with the vehicle.
19:08He's doing 4-0 in the 70 at the moment.
19:12I'll try and follow me board and get him off the next junction, I think.
19:18There's a road closure up ahead,
19:20giving Chris the opportunity to have a word with a potentially drunk driver.
19:24Turn off here for me.
19:31Come off here for me.
19:33Or at least try to.
19:35Follow me.
19:37Follow me.
19:39With a little help from the Beamer's in-car matrix board,
19:42Chris escorts the driver off at the junction.
19:51Hello.
19:53Not too bad.
19:54The reason I've stopped you, sir,
19:55is you've had a report you've been weaving all over the road.
19:58You're slurring your words, you're unsteady on your feet.
20:00So I suspect you might have been drinking some alcohol today.
20:03Okay.
20:04And you could be impaired.
20:05So what I'm going to do, I'm going to require you to provide me with a specimen of breath.
20:07Okay.
20:08Follow me to my car.
20:09When was the last time you had anything to eat or drink?
20:11About an hour and a half.
20:12When was the last time you had a smoke, cigarette, a vape, anything like that?
20:15I've had a cigarette about an hour ago.
20:18An hour ago.
20:19Perfectly.
20:20Pop your hands out your pockets for me.
20:21Just come and join me on the pavement over here.
20:22If the drive is staggering, is anything to go by?
20:25What's your name, sir?
20:26My name is Paratutorial.
20:28Sorry?
20:29Paratutorial.
20:31Things aren't looking good for the breath test.
20:33So don't blow as hard as you can.
20:34Just a nice, even blow for us.
20:36Okay?
20:37When you're ready, do that for me.
20:39And blow, blow, blow.
20:41Keep going, keep going.
20:42Perfect.
20:43Wait a couple of seconds to check it.
20:45Anything under 35 is a pass.
20:48So that's a fail at 58.
20:50Okay.
20:51So you're over the limit.
20:52Okay.
20:53So all that means is you're under arrest at the moment for driving a motor vehicle over
20:55the specified alcohol limit.
20:56That's all.
20:57Just turn around for me and place your hands on the small of your back.
21:02The number of deaths from collisions involving a drink driver have hit the highest level for
21:07more than a decade.
21:09Right.
21:10Have a seat in there for me, sir.
21:12This bloke is lucky his night is only ending up with a trip to custody.
21:16Yeah.
21:17Cool.
21:18Right.
21:19Sort his car out.
21:20You could tell straight away.
21:21He's wobbling all over the place as soon as he's got out of the car.
21:24He sinks of alcohol.
21:25To be fair, it looks like at some point he's hit something.
21:27I don't think that's tonight from the tape.
21:29But the car's not in the best of conditions over.
21:33His tyre is totally bold on this side.
21:39This chap's car's in a right state.
21:43Road worthiness.
21:44I mean, I don't think that lights to be working correctly.
21:47It's totally smashed.
21:48You've got multiple tyres on it that are bold.
21:50It's just not fit for the road, which is scary enough as it is.
21:53But when you consider the facts that he's drunk as well when he's clearly getting steady on his feet.
21:58It's a bit of a disaster waiting to happen, unfortunately.
22:01But good job we've got him.
22:04Chris is going to seize the shed of a motor to ensure it's made road worthy before anyone else drives it.
22:11Fellow Interceptor Stuart is arriving to sort recovery.
22:17All right.
22:18I just need a key.
22:19There you go.
22:20Cheers.
22:22While Chris turns his attention to delivering the drunk driver to the Nick.
22:27Weeklywood's probably closest to here.
22:29It'll have to be here.
22:30Yeah.
22:32Weeklywood's custody suite it is.
22:37Oh, tell you what, mate.
22:38Just balance yourself here or you're going to fall over.
22:41The sozzled suspect gives another two samples of breath.
22:47So that's 65 and 64, so you're well over.
22:50OK.
22:52Confirming he's nearly double the limit, it seems the driver is resigned to his fate.
22:57Just sit tight from there.
22:58We're going to be detaining you for a bit longer so that your alcohol levels can come down.
23:01That's fine.
23:02I can still request a solicitor.
23:03They'll still have a chat with you.
23:04It doesn't make a difference.
23:05I'll admit to you, right, that I've had a cup of drink.
23:08Right, OK.
23:09And if that was over the limit, that's my fault.
23:11That's not, that's not anyone else's.
23:12Do you want me to get, would you like this cool one?
23:14No.
23:15I only provided him 58 on the, at the refliser at the roadside.
23:20I was quite shocked at the level compared to how unfit he was.
23:24It's quite rare where you actually get them and they, they're almost falling out of the car like we saw tonight.
23:29I have no doubt at all, he'll be, he'll be disqualified for this.
23:31He'll lose his licence.
23:32Could well impact his job depending on what his employment is.
23:35So it's just dangerous really.
23:36As a whole it's a good job we've got him off the road.
23:42The drunk driver was indeed disqualified from driving for 18 months and he had to pay fines totalling £847.
23:58Coming up.
23:59I think we've got the vehicle.
24:01Suspecting cannabis farm robbers on the road.
24:05And, who is the disqualified person?
24:13It's my daughter Nicole.
24:15Harrison is one step ahead in a game of guess who.
24:18And what should they do please Rose?
24:20Fifty seven.
24:35There's no limit to the risks suspects will take to evade the law.
24:53Left, left, post the road towards the Stinger.
24:57But the classic combo of a stealthy Stinger.
25:00Freeze down, freeze down, freeze down.
25:04Plus an unbreakable box.
25:06Puts a pin in many of the suit.
25:10Play super games, win super prizes.
25:19Following an ANPR camera hit in neighbouring Leicestershire.
25:23Interceptors believe a car on clone plate is now travelling through Northamptonshire.
25:30N-PASS permission?
25:31Go ahead.
25:32I think we've got the vehicle.
25:36N-PASS, the National Police Air Service are tracking the target.
25:40A-5, Watten Street, here whipped off dirt, have I?
25:46Criminals use false plates to conceal anything from a stolen car to serious organised crime.
25:52Can't tell if anybody's in the past, it's just the driver I can see visually at this time.
25:57And this motor has got quite the back story.
26:00Just start driving normal.
26:06After a cannabis farm burglary in the early hours, police tasered a suspect who jumped out of a window.
26:12Allegedly making their escape in this cloned car.
26:16It's a dual carriageway, it's in lane one.
26:20Thanks to N-PASS, ground units are tightening the net on the target.
26:26Armed pursuit drivers are making for the A-5.
26:29Potentially some drug offences, I think, to the sounds of it.
26:35Once again, Dan and police dog Kohler are en route in case there are any runaways.
26:40It could be up to tune, just exit this vehicle.
26:44And an unmarked unit is lying in wait, ready to tail the suspect car.
26:49Oh.
26:52There we go.
26:55Contact, contact.
26:56South of the A-5, it's just passing half the shot.
27:02Contact, contact, receive.
27:04It's just passing what looks like a garden sector, something like that, near sign.
27:08We are unmarked, approximately 50 inches wide.
27:17Interceptors behind, above, and now a few miles ahead.
27:22Stand well, stand well.
27:24We've got an off-side indication about that.
27:26Towards the A-5.
27:28Ooh.
27:30Ooh, indeed.
27:31The unwitting driver is heading towards a stinger.
27:34Cancel base, continue.
27:35Continue.
27:36Continue.
27:37Very far, start.
27:38It's all right.
27:40Roger.
27:41I've got the vehicle in the tyre.
27:42Bye, boy.
27:45Spikes are out.
27:49Vehicle stand, vehicle stand.
27:52Now it's much more acceleration.
27:56They've blown his tyres and their cover.
28:00Yeah, it's now fine.
28:01It's done.
28:02Red ATS, temporary, high risk.
28:04But there's slim chance of a second getaway in this clone.
28:10It's got deterioration of his tyres.
28:13Such cell garage.
28:16The team are moving in.
28:19We've got three in six.
28:23A marked car leads to charge of three TPAC or boxing units.
28:28Speed four, five, immediately.
28:30Dogman Dan's at the rear, ready for runaways.
28:38And they swiftly follow up the stinger with a TPAC chaser.
28:41Cold is out the hatch and raring to go.
28:54Stop, stop, stop.
28:5510 passes, no.
28:5610 passes, no.
28:57Something out of the left-hand window.
28:58Out of the left-hand window.
28:59Something out of the left-hand window.
29:05Cola's elite speed isn't needed today.
29:07Roger.
29:08Two men in the car are nicked.
29:17That's all the occupants accounted for.
29:20The driver may have tossed something down here.
29:23Although the suspected cannabis farm robbers may have tried to discard evidence.
29:36A small bag is quickly recovered.
29:38Then the suspect on his feet is spotted slinging something into the bushes behind him.
29:53Wait.
29:57Weeding it out is a job for Dan and Cola.
30:01Good girl.
30:06Good girl.
30:08The phone down here as well.
30:12Wait.
30:14I can see it quite plainly, but she doesn't know what it is.
30:17And she's indicated and said that it's been recently handled.
30:20Some mobile phones are an absolute goldmine of evidence.
30:23So, you know, obviously if he doesn't want us to have it, there is a reason behind that.
30:31There's a tiny bit in the earphone.
30:34Fellow interceptor bomber is on hand to look for any more evidence in the alleged getaway car.
30:40No one's tasered anyone, have they?
30:49That's definitely a taser barb.
30:52The taser barb has a serial number which can be checked against the police taser fired at the cannabis farm.
31:00That's what we found, but it doesn't really sit with the information that we had.
31:04They've probably offloaded anything they've nicked from the burglary before they've started this journey.
31:12Checks also reveal the cloned plates have been placed on a nicked motor.
31:16So, stolen car, false plates, been involved in that great burglary up in Nottinghamshire.
31:22So, yeah, really tidy job and, you know, really nice to get that one safely concluded and get the bad guys in custody.
31:28No charges were brought against the suspects in relation to the stolen car or the false plates.
31:37The passenger was convicted of conspiracy to commit robbery and sent to prison for four years and eight months.
31:44As for the driver, no action was taken against him for burglary, but he was convicted of conspiracy to commit robbery, driving dangerously and without a license or insurance.
31:57He was disqualified for more than two years and jailed for three and a half years.
32:02Lovely bit of cross-border work got impasse up and that's been the crucial part is having the aircraft above to follow it.
32:15And then we've been able to put a plan together to deal with the safety.
32:19So, really happy.
32:20Once a suspect is stopped, the next round of intercepting begins, filtering facts from fiction.
32:36I guess one of the challenges of the job is that people don't always tell us the truth.
32:42They're sometimes economical with the truth or sometimes they just tell us barefaced lies.
32:48Either way, our job is to find out what the truth is and there's so many different ways in which we can do that,
32:55whether that be the use of technology or fingerprint scanners,
32:58if people, particularly if people are trying to disguise their identity from us.
33:02It's inevitable that people will lie to us, but I think nine times out of ten, we normally find out the truth.
33:08In the north of the county, Harrison Beverley is behind a Merc with a marker flagging it's potentially being used by a disqualified driver.
33:24Female has warning to impersonate when arrested. She's possibly will provide her mother's details.
33:31I've got an image sent through to you of her.
33:34Yeah, the picture is brilliant, thank you. I'll try and stop it. We're just going towards our lease at the minute.
33:39Copy that.
33:40We'll give it a stop, see if they're driving it as a disc wall or not.
33:46Armed with the Intel, Harrison cuts to the chase.
33:51Hello, you alright? I'll be straight up with you. This vehicle's got a disqualified marker on it.
33:56Are you disqualified? Have you got a driver license?
33:59I haven't got it on me. It's not a good start.
34:00No, I don't, I just don't get any carried around.
34:03And what's your name, please?
34:05My name? Rose.
34:07Your name's Rose. Who is the disqualified person?
34:10It's my daughter, Nicole.
34:12Okay, go with me two seconds. Let me just do a couple of checks then, and I'll be on your way.
34:17No ID isn't ideal.
34:19But there's more than one way to check whether this is the band driver masquerading as her mum.
34:24Easy way to solve this. I can ask for a fingerprint from you which will tell me who you are.
34:28If you've got no identity on you, because I...
34:31Is that necessary?
34:32Yeah, I'll be as fair as possible with you, but unfortunately I need to know who you are as a person.
34:37Given there's also a young child in the car, Harrison needs to be 100% sure the woman has a license.
34:44But there's no reason for me to be pulled over at all.
34:48I've explained the reason why I've pulled you over.
34:50Yeah, that was my daughter, not myself.
34:51That's okay, but then I've just asked for some identification, you haven't got anything on you.
34:54With six years experience in the job, Harrison's honed his skills at sorting truth from lies, and alarm bells are ringing.
35:06And what's the date of birth please, Rose?
35:0857.
35:0957.
35:141957.
35:17She's either an extremely youthful 60-something, or...
35:21Okay, I am looking at a picture of Nicole at the minute, and it looks very much like yourself.
35:30Do you want to start telling me the truth?
35:33Yeah?
35:34No, look, this is not...
35:38Listen.
35:39The only reason I drove to the shop is because I needed to get something for my kids.
35:41I'm begging you.
35:42Listen, what am I meant to do?
35:43Please just have some, like, some compassion.
35:46I'm a human, I know you've got a little child with you, but equally.
35:49Yeah, you've got a camera shining through my window.
35:51Well, don't swear. If you're going to give me grief about stopping you, don't swear in front of a child.
35:55I'm not really grief. I understand.
35:56You're the one that's driving whilst disqualified, so let's get that straight.
35:58But don't need to be so, like, pedantic.
36:00Not to be pedantic, but she's driving whilst disqualified and without insurance.
36:07So while a friend arrives to take the child home, a local unit is also dropping in to help with the unhappy customer.
36:15Unfortunately.
36:16I don't know why you're being so smug.
36:18Smug? I'm not being smug. I'm trying to work with you.
36:21You're the one that's driving whilst disqualified.
36:23You lied to me.
36:24I'm in a panicked situation.
36:26Somehow it's my fault that she's driving whilst disqualified.
36:29I'm not talking to you, am I?
36:32I appreciate she's got a young baby with her.
36:35Clearly it's going to affect how we deal with it.
36:37But, you know, it's a risk.
36:38Public, she's disqualified if we drink driving.
36:41So I'd argue she's putting the child at risk by driving, especially with no insurance.
36:46So, yeah.
36:48The child's safe, that's the main thing.
36:49We'll figure out where we go next.
36:51Time to check in with the Sarge.
36:53Hello, Sarge.
36:54Right?
36:55It's female.
36:56He's got a three-year-old child.
36:57What's your thoughts on slow time or just custody?
37:01Slow time option means reporting offences at the roadside and avoiding a trip to custody so the woman can return home to her child.
37:10Yeah, thank you.
37:11I'll use my discretion then and do it slow time and then I'll just sit and wait recovery.
37:18The driver is getting the best possible outcome.
37:21I'm not going to go to custody if you don't have to.
37:23It's your first time caught whilst disqualified and you've got a child at home that's young.
37:28I'll do arrest you but I will report you for those two offences.
37:31The car will be seized in section 165 of Road Traffic Act.
37:35It doesn't need to be well.
37:36It does.
37:38Unfortunately, she's still not happy with the plan.
37:41Grab what you need.
37:42The car will be sent to a secure compound and then you can...
37:45Oh, it's not Hampton, which is just...
37:46No, it's going to be going to probably Lutterworth from here.
37:49Ridiculous.
37:51Yeah, it's difficult.
37:53At the end of the day, she's driving whilst disqualified.
37:55She's trying to conceal who she is in order to get away with it.
37:59On this occasion, you know, use discretion.
38:01The vehicle's recovered.
38:02She'll go to court for no... for a disc or drive and no insurance.
38:05So, ultimately, the child's back home and back with his mum.
38:08So, it's a... it's a good outcome in the end, I think.
38:15At court, the woman pleaded guilty to obstructing the police,
38:18driving whilst disqualified and no insurance.
38:21She had to pay a total of £279 in costs
38:26and was banned from the roads for another five months.
38:31If you're straight up and honest, you know,
38:33it's going to be a far easier process.
38:34We get used to it after stopping cars every day.
38:36So, I've just got to judge it every time you stop it
38:39and, you know, come to an outcome where we're still going to enforce
38:43what we need to enforce, ultimately.
38:45Still to come.
38:51How old are you?
38:5270.
38:53I want you our new driver there.
38:54A ditch disaster calls for a family rescue mission.
38:58Go!
38:59Keep going, keep going.
39:00Now, rest!
39:023...
39:22It's a miserable night tonight, isn't it?
39:25It certainly is.
39:27It's been a rainy day in Northamptonshire, and the wet roads are creating a busy night
39:36shift for Harrison and co-pilot Joe Wood.
39:39There is a family in a ditch with three youngsters around it.
39:42They've put their thumbs up to the corner as they drove past.
39:45It looked like it had just happened.
39:48That's Ignite.
39:49Just confirm the locus again.
39:51The van has come off a country road just outside the small town of Rawnes.
40:08The long straight bit has got a big ditch there on it, so I imagine it's going to be a long
40:13last.
40:14It could be in the National.
40:17Yeah.
40:18Even so familiar with the territory, he can even pinpoint where the accident's going
40:23to be.
40:24We're on this bend, if anything.
40:27Yeah.
40:28That'll be the one.
40:29Yeah, yeah.
40:30Ouch.
40:31They've slid into a ditch, haven't they?
40:34So we know what's happened here.
40:35You don't need to be a forensic collision investigator to know that he's overcooked it.
40:41You know what, I'll leave the front blues on as well, being as we're on this unlit section.
40:47You all right, lads?
40:53You all right, mate?
40:54Yeah.
40:55I'm all right.
40:57Looks like the interceptors aren't the only ones responding.
40:59It's this who's getting you out, is it?
41:01Yeah.
41:02No worries.
41:03Whose van is it?
41:04He's the driver.
41:05All right, no worries.
41:06Are you the driver?
41:07Yeah.
41:08Cool.
41:09No worries.
41:10We'll just get your details.
41:11Make sure everything's in order with the vehicle, and then we'll let you drag it out.
41:13All right?
41:14Yeah.
41:15Thankfully, no one is hurt, and the young lads have already organised their own rescue
41:19mission.
41:20Grandad and his truck.
41:22I've got a back box, so I weren't going quickly, I just lost control of it.
41:26The roads are slippy.
41:27I've not been driving them at all, neither.
41:29How long have you had your licence?
41:31I've passed in January.
41:33Oh, you passed in January?
41:34I passed in January.
41:35How old are you?
41:36Seventy.
41:37All right, so you're our new driver then.
41:38Joe's first car was an Austin Mini.
41:42As a roads policing lead investigator, he knows the teenager's crash could be a genuine
41:48accident.
41:51But he needs to make sure.
41:53So you've not done one of these then, because you've already just flashed your test?
41:56No.
41:57Yeah, no, I've never done it.
41:58Come on.
41:59Hopefully this is your first and last.
42:00Right, I'll hold the device.
42:02Deep breath in as far as you can, and then blow out until I tell you to stop.
42:05Keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going.
42:08Zero.
42:09Perfect.
42:10All right.
42:11You grab that, pull it towards you, and you keep that bit.
42:18Everything checks out.
42:19The 17-year-old new driver hasn't touched a drop of drink, and he has a full licence and
42:25insurance.
42:26What's your plan, see if it just drags out?
42:29Yeah, it should drag out.
42:31Hopefully.
42:32Famous last word.
42:35So the focus quickly shifts to hauling the van out of the ditch and clearing the perilous
42:40stretch of Country Road.
42:42So we've got family members here that have come to assist them, so they're going to try
42:46and tow it out of the chain.
42:47So that'll be interesting.
42:48We'll see how they get on.
42:49Hopefully there's not too much damage to it.
42:52Police interceptors, eh?
42:54Grandad and the family get to work.
42:57I've come out in my slippers.
43:02Chain's secure.
43:05Harrison and Joe shut the road.
43:07Fellas, step back out of the way in case the chain comes off it.
43:12Operation TurboToe is go.
43:28Stop, stop there.
43:31No, it's alright.
43:32Hold it there.
43:33Nice one, Grandad.
43:35The wheels might be smoking, but the 17-year-old is back on the road.
43:42Is this your first vehicle, is it?
43:45The second one.
43:46The other one, I blew it up.
43:48Let's move on, shall we?
43:50Hello?
43:51Take your time.
43:52You've got all mud in the wheel.
43:53All right.
43:54All right.
43:55Can you take an hour for three?
43:57The family are shifting to a safer place to assess the damage.
44:02Meaning Harrison and Joe can get the road open again.
44:05If anyone else comes down that bend and does the same thing, then there's going to be another crash.
44:11So, unconventional, but safety-wise, we're happy now.
44:15So, no injuries, so at least that's the main thing.
44:18A bit of damage repair on his run.
44:20We've all done it, haven't we?
44:22Well, I did.
44:23Well, I did.
44:24Not in a ditch as such, but...
44:25Well, no, I've not put it into a ditch, but I have lost it on a bend when I was young and stupid.
44:45Yah.
44:46Ooh, too.
44:47...
44:49I looked at the edge as such as what?
44:51Just in a ditch as such.
44:52I was kind of celebrating this day.
44:54I hope you're not all.
44:56I'm a happy child.
44:58We're at the end of the tunnel.
44:59You're at the end of the tunnel.
45:01I'm a happy child.
45:02I work together.
45:03You're a happy child.
45:04You're a happy child.
45:06You're a happy child.
45:07I'm a happy child.
45:08It's not so sorry.
45:09You're always going.
45:10You're always going to have to do the right thing.
45:11I think.
45:12I'm a happy child.
45:13But always.

38:00: A friend of mine was a victim of a violent road rager who attacked him after the criminal took umbrage at having his car plate and person photographed for evidence. The cop who arrived moments later said that the criminal had no insurance, but, the car was NOT seized and he wasn't even cited. No wonder insurance rates are so high. Maybe, if nobody paid insurance . . .

10:00: Our justice system: Driving recklessly for miles without a license or insurance and ramming a police car = Get out of jail free card. Ridiculous. Sometimes, I wonder why cops even bother.
