00:00Australia made a less than convincing start to their title chase, at least with the ball
00:05against Ireland. The Irish boys, powered by a top score of 79 from Robert O'Brien, posted
00:10a decent total of 235 for 7 of their 50 overs. However, the Aussies showed more with the bats,
00:16as they only needed four batters to get the job done. Steve Hogan showed his promise with
00:22a stylish 115 off 111 balls, while neatish Samuel supported him well with an unbeaten 77 to take
00:35the defending champions to an 8-wicked victory. Something had to give between former winners
00:41Pakistan and England. England have only won the title once back in 1998, and they struggled to
00:47compile a dominant total, being dismissed for 210 in 46.5 overs. Two-time winners Pakistan failed
00:54to do better in their run chase, as they could only muster 173. Only their skipper Farhan Yousaf,
01:02with 65, really impressed as Pakistan started off the tournament with a 37-run defeat.
01:10And Afghanistan pulled off the upset over 2014 winners, South Africa.
01:15The Afghans got half-sentries from Khalid Ahmadzai and Faisal Khan to rattle up 266 for 8 of their
01:25allotment. And the young proteas provided little support to Jason Rowles, who fell narrowly short
01:31of a century on 98. South Africa were bowled out 28 runs short, finishing on 238 in 47.4 overs.
