00:00The NT schools report card is in and attendance is showing no improvement.
00:08The attendance overall has gone, I will acknowledge, there's been a slight decline, only a slight decline.
00:15A small drop from 2024 but overall 2025 school attendance is the lowest it's been in 10 years at 73 per cent.
00:25Declining in all regions, Central Australia with the biggest drop. Enrolment's taking a hit as well, down 310 students on the previous year.
00:35We're actually looking at why the kids aren't going to school and working with the school and stakeholders to get the issues resolved so they can continue to go back to school.
00:46Despite the results, the government says its measures are working.
00:50There was 1398 compliance notices given out and there was actually 292 fines given out as well.
01:00Out of those compliance notices almost half of those were revoked and 33 fines were revoked.
01:07Finding parents that may be on the lower end of like a financial, you know, being financially stable to do that is probably just another setback for them.
01:18I mean let's try and encourage by reminding that school is a great place to be at, it's fun, it's safe, it's rewarding.
01:24I think it's on the parents really, it's your responsibility to make sure your kids are in school.
01:28Probably meal incentives, you know, free lunches, stuff like that, activities, probably someone designated in the school to liaise with the parents.
01:39My favourite part about school is maths and having fun with my friends and eating lots of good things that mum makes.
01:47While kids are still enjoying their school holidays, educators are gearing up to welcome them back into the classroom and hopefully keep them there.
01:58We're spending a lot of time with our friends and friends and family.
01:59Thank you so much.
