00:19The U.S. president has declared it unacceptable for Greenland to be in the hands of any country
00:25other than the United States, sparking fears of a major clash with NATO and Denmark.
00:31Trump insists Greenland is critical for U.S. national security.
00:36He says controlling the Arctic island would make NATO far more formidable and effective
00:41and is vital for a proposed missile defense system he calls the Golden Dome.
00:46And he's warning, if we don't do it the easy way, we're going to do it the hard way.
00:51Hours before high-stakes talks in Washington with Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary
00:57of State Marco Rubio, Denmark and Greenland pushed back.
01:01Both have made it clear Greenland is not for sale and U.S. pressure is completely unacceptable.
01:08Greenland's Prime Minister Jens Fredrik Nielsen stressed, if we have to choose between the
01:13U.S. and Denmark right now, we choose Denmark, NATO and the EU.
01:18But there's one thing everyone must understand, Greenland will not be owned by the United States
01:22of America.
01:25Greenland does not wish to be governed by the United States.
01:28Greenland does not want to be a part of the United States.
01:32We select the Greenland we know today and which is a part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
01:37If this matter concerns security in the Arctic then we are driven by an absolutely unwavering
01:43resolve from the Kingdom of Denmark to do everything we possibly can to ensure our security policy.
01:50We have demonstrated over many years that we can do this as allies.
01:53We are also prepared to invest in the necessary capabilities.
01:56I think our internal relations in this community we have are something we continuously discuss
02:00and always have, but the time right now is for us to stand together.
02:05Greenland is a part of the Kingdom of Denmark and is completely united in its efforts to protect
02:10the fundamental principles that are present in the world.
02:13European leaders have also stepped in, backing Denmark's sovereignty.
02:17Ursula von der Leyen said the island belongs to its people, while France's Emmanuel Macron warned
02:24that any interference could have unprecedented knock-on effects.
02:28So first of all, Greenland belongs to its people.
02:32So it's up to Denmark and Greenland and only to them to decide on matters that are concerning

03:30A Reuters-Ipsos poll shows just 17 percent support Trump's Greenland push, and a large
03:35majority oppose using military force to take the territory.
03:40As Greenlandic and Danish officials head into Washington for the talks, the world watches

03:46Will diplomacy defuse the crisis, or is Trump pushing the Arctic closer to a standoff with
03:51NATO?
