00:00A 47-year-old Indonesian was jailed for three months by the Ayer Kero Magistrates' Court
00:06on Monday after pleading guilty to using another individual's maikad for more than a decade,
00:12a ruse that allowed him to operate modified trishaws at popular tourist hotspots in the
00:17historic city since 2023.
00:20Abdul Adi was charged before Magistrate Nur Afika Radia Zainurin for unlawfully using
00:27a copy of another person's maikad for the past 12 years.
00:31It is learnt that the maikad had been used to obtain a trishaw operating license from the
00:37Malacca Historic City Council in 2023, as well as an identification card issued by the National
00:43Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.
00:47Checks conducted through the National Registration Department's biometric verification system
00:52showed that the fingerprints and facial image linked to the maikad did not match the accused.
00:57The offence was detected at the Enforcement Division of the Malacca Religious Affairs Department
01:02on January 8.
01:04During mitigation, Abdul Adi, who was unrepresented, appealed for a lighter sentence, citing his
01:10responsibility to support his wife and three school-going children.
01:15However, Malacca's National Registration Department prosecuting officer Mohamed Nasram Mohamed Yusuf
01:22asked the court to impose a deterrent sentence, stressing that the misuse of identity documents
01:29could pose risks to national security and undermine the public interest.
