00:00Hopefully we can lead you in the right direction here over at Santa Anita.
00:03This is a race for three-year-old horses.
00:06There are no Kentucky Derby points up for grabs,
00:08but this is a race that is commonly used for horses as a stepping stone
00:12into other Kentucky Derby prep races.
00:14So I wouldn't really be shocked, Angela,
00:17if any of the inside four horses won this race.
00:20I mean, it's not a big, big field,
00:22but it is kind of competitive with a few different horses that you can make a case for.
00:25Let's start with Greenwich Village.
00:27Inside speed.
00:28He's only raced once.
00:30It was a win over at Los Alamitos.
00:33Now his dam was a multiple graded stakes winner sprinting on the turf,
00:37but this was a fine effort for trainer Bob Baffert.
00:40He has two in here.
00:41What do you think about Greenwich Village?
00:43The pedigree certainly says sprint.
00:45Like you mentioned, his turf sprinting dam
00:46and his best siblings have been a little bit better going short.
00:50And he didn't do anything really that bad.
00:53I mean, he broke in in his first start, but got a pretty clear run through.
00:56You know, he had to bowl his way between horses,
00:58and I thought that he was going to draw away better than he did down the stretch.
01:01Now, maybe that's why he ends up here.
01:03There's distance limitations at least sticking out in the pedigree.
01:05Maybe he's seeing that when the horse races.
01:08I don't like the rail draw for him,
01:09but I wouldn't be surprised, too,
01:11if he was sent to maybe go after one of the other horses that would try to shake loose in here,
01:15and that maybe Butane would be waiting for him to come back to him.
01:19We'll see.
01:19Yeah, I don't like him quite as much as the other major contenders,
01:22but there's a little something there with him.
01:24His works have been okay recently.
01:26He's been working with Cherokee Nation, another Baffert runner.
01:29Let's move to So Happy.
01:31His debut was a good one.
01:32He was 38-1 when he went,
01:35and a couple of the horses, including the fourth-place finisher that he beat,
01:39have come back to run well.
01:40That horse came back to win a maiden special weight race next out at Santa Anita
01:44with a big 88 buyer speed figure.
01:46I thought this was a pretty good effort from the horse first time out of the box, Angela.
01:50So professional.
01:51He is definitely a horse with a future, even if that future isn't realized now.
01:55And I think seven furlongs for him would be more of a stepping stone,
01:58maybe than some of the other horses in here that might have limitations.
02:02It doesn't really look like he does at this point.
02:03He just kept going and going.
02:05And if they start him at six and a half,
02:07seven is a nice step to whatever's coming next.
02:10And if he follows through with that sort of race,
02:12he's going to be very, very tough to hold off.
02:14Should be in it throughout.
02:16Butane is the next one up.
02:17He was actually favored over Ted Noffi
02:20when they raced against each other in the grade one hopeful,
02:23because in his debut, Butane was a very nice winner.
02:26And it wasn't even like this was a bad effort finishing second here, Angela.
02:29He just tried to go with Ted Noffi, and he couldn't.
02:31He just couldn't close with the horse who's currently the number one juvenile
02:35and the top horse in this division.
02:37So, I mean, Butane feels like the horse to beat here, right?
02:41He's a measuring stick.
02:42He seems like he's classy, and I have no knocks on him.
02:46Yeah, Baffert's won five of the last six of these.
02:48This is his main contender, and he's got everything going for him.
02:52And the recent works really, I mean, do sparkle,
02:55but they're still newly turned three-year-olds,
02:57and he still hasn't run in a while.
02:59And Butane has all the goods except for the price.
03:02I just think that maybe it's worth giving him this one
03:05and seeing if it doesn't get better.
03:06Completely agree.
03:07While I respect him, I don't think he towers over this field so much
03:10that horses to the inside or outside of him
03:12couldn't make things difficult for him.
03:14Like, acknowledge me, please.
03:15First two sprints were very, very good.
03:18In fact, he beat a horse named Blacksmith who came back
03:20and was the grade two runner-up a couple starts back
03:23in the low south futurity.
03:24He'll add the blinkers.
03:26He gets a cutback for a horse who's been a little quirky.
03:28I think he's going to be pretty tough in this spot.
03:31Yeah, I think it's worth noting the blinkers, too,
03:33because they actually worked him in those before his last race.
03:36Didn't put him on that day,
03:37and I want to see if he's got that giant right cup
03:39to keep him from getting out,
03:40and if that hasn't been playing a part in some of these losses,
03:43including the low south futurity,
03:45if that's been a difficulty for his riders,
03:47perhaps getting him focused and just using that speed
03:49could all add up to a mild upset in here,
03:51and I'm hoping for that.
03:52Let's round out the field with Thirsty Rebel.
03:54He's a cowbred.
03:55I understand why they take a shot,
03:57but he does look like he's in a little bit tough
03:59just compared to his three rivals to the inside.
04:01Let's move to selections here.
04:03Angela, how are you going to stack them up?
04:05Yeah, we'll both take a little shot against Butane.
04:07Acknowledge me, please, for Angela.
04:08Go into the outside with the horse who has the speed.
04:11I'm going to go to So Happy.
04:124-3-2-1 for Angela.
04:142-4-3-1 for me.
04:155-4-4-2-1 for me.
04:305-5-4-3-1 for me.
04:355-5-4-3-1 for me.
04:366-5-4-2-1 for me.
04:397-5-4-3-1 for me.
