00:00Sarah Michelle Gellar is weighing in on the Buffy reboot.
00:04In an Instagram post on Thursday, the actress addressed the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival
00:09that was announced to be in the works at Hulu. The reboot would have its star Gellar attached,
00:15but would be centered around a younger Slayer. She wrote,
00:18So you might have heard some news this week, but I realize you haven't heard from me.
00:22She went on to describe the backstory of how the reboot first started.
00:25Three years ago, I got a call from my dear friend and mentor, Gail Berman. She told me that she
00:30wanted me to sit down with Chloe Zhao to hear her take on a potential Buffy revival. I was blown away
00:35that Chloe even knew who I was. But as I've always done, I told Gail that I just didn't see a way for
00:40the show to exist again. She continued, We'd always been aligned on that, but this time I heard
00:45something different in her voice. I eventually agreed to go, mainly just to meet Chloe, and our
00:5020-minute coffee quickly turned into a four-hour adventure. We laughed, we cried, but mostly we
00:56both talked about how much this show means to us. The actress said she didn't agree to anything in
01:00that meeting. However, she warmed up to it by having more conversations and landed on an idea with her
01:05team and writers Nora and Lilla Zuckerman. She wrote,
01:09I have always listened to the fans and heard your desire to revisit Buffy and her world,
01:14but it was not something I could do unless I was sure we would get it right. This has been a long
01:18process and it's not over yet. I promise you we will only make this show if we know we can do it
01:23right. And I will tell you that we are on the path there. The fan favorite Vampire Slayer ended the
01:28post by saying, Thank you to all the fans who never stopped asking for this. This will be for you.
01:33Buffy the Vampire Slayer aired on television from 1997 to 2003. The revival will be the next chapter
01:40in the Buffyverse and is set to have Zhao direct. For more on this story, head to THR.com.
