00:01Gunmen have abducted 25 schoolgirls in a new attack on a high school in northwestern Nigeria.
00:06The assault took place at a boarding school in the Danko-Wazagu area of Kebi State.
00:11Police said the schoolgirls were taken from their dorms at around 4 a.m. local time on Monday.
00:16The assailants were armed with sophisticated weapons and exchanged fire with guards before abducting the girls.
00:22They also killed the school's vice principal, who was reportedly trying to protect the students.
00:26Another staff member sustained gunshot wounds.
00:29No armed group immediately claimed responsibility for the kidnapping and their motivation wasn't clear.
00:35Authorities said a search and rescue operation is ongoing to recover the abducted students and arrest the perpetrators.
00:41Schools in northern Nigeria have become frequent targets of armed groups in the past decade.
