00:00The incident occurred this morning when a truck carrying a full load of sheep collided with a
00:07train and a rail crossing near Bribery in the New South Wales Central West. This resulted in five
00:13of the carriages being derailed and two being partially derailed. The truck and train driver,
00:19they did not suffer injuries, however a female passenger believed to be in her 20s in the truck
00:24suffered minor injuries and has been taken to Young Health Service for treatment. In terms of
00:30the sheep that were on this truck, we believe that around a dozen have died in this crash. Those that
00:37did survive have been released into a nearby paddock where vets are checking them for any injuries. Now
00:43this rail crossing is quite notorious for how dangerous it is. Residents have told us that in
00:48the early hours of the morning when the sun is coming up that it is quite hard to see trains
00:53coming across the railway. In terms of this incident here, it's believed as you can see
00:58behind me there's a truck crashing into the middle of the train when it was trying to cross this
01:04railway crossing. The early morning sun is believed to have been a cause in this incident. However,
01:10New South Wales police have now launched an investigation into what happened. Now this rail
01:15crossing is quite notorious for how dangerous it is. There's been a number of crashes here in the past.
01:20As a result, in 2023, a safety trial was launched that saw stop signs with LED lights installed.
01:29However, some residents we've spoken to believe that doesn't go far enough and boom gates are needed to
01:35ensure that this doesn't happen again in the future. Level crossings out west are a really big issue,
01:41particularly for truck drivers. This one really needs some sort of level crossing indication and some
01:49sort of boom gates or something to actually shut the road while the trains go through here. It's very
01:57difficult to see. Now this incident has caused major disruptions to one of the largest rail network routes
02:04in the central west. At least eight services have been either cancelled or have had to have been
02:10rerouted to get past this crash. ARTC, who manages the line, say they expect these disruptions to continue
02:18throughout the rest of the day and expect this network to remain shut for throughout the day,
02:23possibly into the weekend as they try to remove this train from the line.
