00:00Every day is a lot of dump trucks, a lot of equipment.
00:10It was very quiet and dark for a while though, so sometimes the activity is good.
00:18I sat on the river Saturday and got a little emotional, you know, just,
00:25yeah, it's been a year, but it was a flash to me anyway.
00:29Put these rocks here so that my whole building doesn't fall into the river.
00:35I firmly believe five years down the road, Chimney Rock will be so magnificent.
00:42It'll be the primo place to come for vacation.
00:46It's going to take a little while to get there and the river is going to take a little while,
00:51but through donations and government grants, this town is going to be fabulous again, without a doubt.
00:59People have never been through disasters like this, hurricanes in particular.
01:04Everybody tells you it's going to take a long time.
01:06People don't actually know what that means.
01:08They think, oh, you mean like a month, two months or something.
01:12But I will tell you that the people who live here, they weren't just born yesterday.
01:17They've been through hard things before and so they've been patient and they've been thankful and they've been as supportive and understanding as you can be in a disaster like this.
01:28And they just know we'll get through that.
01:30There has been a lot done.
01:33There has been a lot that has not changed very much since the storm.
01:38I mean, you see a lot of places where, you know, entire buildings instead of standing, you know, half gutted by the floodwaters, they're actually raised and it's just an empty lot now.
01:47And in some of those places where, you know, those were community neighborhood standbys and important places for people to gather.
01:54And then there's still other places where you look and it doesn't look very much different than it did last October.
01:59You know, we've got a long way to go.
02:01And there's the thing that's always been one of the hardest parts of it is the uncertainty of what's going to happen.
02:08When is it going to happen? Is it going to happen?
02:11The struggle continues, you know, and we knew from the outset this is going to be a marathon.
02:16Seeing one family back home, we hope they need the hope that people need.
02:20the people haven't received the help that they need and give hope to them because we are coming for them next.
02:25Like one family can take us closer to the big goal that is make everybody in Western North Carolina have a place to call home again.
02:32The struggle continues, you know, and we know of the hope that people have a great deal with any of the challenges.
02:39But I think that's the things that we veering on
02:41What can happen?
02:42I think that's the best thing.
02:44You know, it's very sad to me.
02:46I think that people have been going for it as a moment, they think, they're going to be able to work.
02:51I think that there is a lot of people who've been thinking about things.
02:55But I think that people can see that many people need to be thinking about.
02:58I think they're going to be the best.
