00:00I'm Tommy Banks and we're here at the General Tartan at Ferensby.
00:02We've had six months sort of doing the place up.
00:05It looks really smart and we can't wait to see you all there.
00:08The General Tartan has always had an amazing reputation.
00:11When I first started cooking, it was a very famous place,
00:15a bit of one of the first sort of gastro pubs in the north of England.
00:19So it was sort of a real shame that it was closed
00:22and really wanted to try and take this amazing building
00:25and sort of try and restore it to its former glory.
00:27So when we took over, I mean, it had been closed for a period of time
00:30and these sort of buildings don't like being closed.
00:33So there's quite a bit of work to do.
00:35We put a new kitchen in and refurb all the areas, really.
00:40But I think it's a beautiful space now.
00:42We tried to try and restore a lot of the character of the building.
00:45We've got a designated space just for drinkers.
00:48So hopefully we get lots of people coming in for pints
00:50and we'll be serving some great food as well.
00:52We're well known for our restaurants, the Black Swan and Roots and the Abbey
00:55and a very farm to table.
00:57But this is our first venture as Jeopardy! Hospitality.
01:00So we founded Jeopardy! with the idea of saving pubs.
01:03Unfortunately, there's just so many pubs closing all around the UK at the moment
01:06and we wanted to invest in pubs and get them open
01:09and really make them the heart of the community again.
01:11So I want the food to be absolutely top-notch
01:14because I wouldn't put my name to something that didn't do that.
01:17But also, this is very much a pub.
01:19We've got a designated space just for drinkers.
01:21But hopefully we just have a busy, bustling atmosphere where everyone's welcome.
01:25So straight away, I just thought General Tarleton was the perfect site for us.
01:29The old bar itself is really characterful and beautiful and a great place to sit.
01:34It's got this lovely conservatory here, which is a lovely place to have a meal
01:37but also will serve breakfast for the 15 bedrooms.
01:39And then there's the barn, which is really lovely, with a private room upstairs for parties.
01:44So it really is a space where you can function for anybody, really.
01:49I'm very excited. Very, very nervous as well.
01:51I don't think it gets any easier doing this, no matter how many times you do it.
01:54I mean, we've been working on this project for six months.
01:56It's been a real labour of love and I just hope that everyone else loves it as much as I do.
