Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson rejected Conservative suggestions to scrap net zero targets and focus on exploiting North Sea oil and gas. She said future jobs will come from renewable energy, particularly offshore wind, providing opportunities for coastal communities that have lost industries in recent decades.

00:09communities that over many many years have seen jobs and opportunities stripped
00:13away. The answer is not the answer the suggestions being put forward by the
00:18leader of the opposition. There was once a time when they were in government that
00:21they believed also that actually we need to in order to maintain energy
00:24security to build on our security and not be so dependent on the fluctuations and
00:29the fossil market we've got to invest in homegrown renewable energy that's our
00:33focus and priority.
