00:10and more may now be adding the Leeds landmark to their list of must-perform venues in the not-too-distant future.
00:17Leeds City Council have given the green light for the park to increase the capacity of live gigs
00:21from just under 20,000 people to 69,999 for no more than two weekends a year.
00:28A council spokesperson says the capacity increase will be an important boost to the local economy
00:34while putting the city on the map internationally.
00:37The licensing committee stipulated as part of the conditions that there will be an event management plan for each event
00:43and the premises licence holder will engage with the Leeds Safety Advisory Group.
00:48A search policy will be in operation at all times as well as the appointment of an event safety coordinator and a deputy.
00:54The council have said they will continue to liaise closely with residents and stakeholders
00:59on matters relating to the use of the park
01:01and are fully committed to ensuring that it remains a wonderful place to visit all year round.
01:07Capacity at the park was last raised temporarily in 2019 for Ed Sheeran's tour.
01:13The park previously held a licence to host 79,999 people,
01:18but the capacity was reduced in 2006 due to a lack of demand.
01:22Licensing documents said trained crowd management staff would be employed at events
01:27and four objections were received with key concerns including the impact of noise,
01:32traffic congestion, antisocial behaviour and litter management.
01:36The council highlighted the nostalgia that many locals have for past gigs
01:40and we may now know sooner of than later who will be next to perform here.
