Biden slams Trump administration at National Bar Association gala

Former US president Joe Biden slammed US President Donald Trump and his administration at the National Bar Association's 100th Annual Awards Gala in Chicago on July 31, 2025. Biden referred to Trump as “this guy, we have a president” and called on attendees to uphold justice and the Constitution. Biden said the US was under pressure from the administration, adding that law firms were 'bending to bullies instead of staying rooted in justice of the law, including some of the largest newspapers in America.' 'These are dark days,' the former president said, and called on attendees to fight for the future.

00:00I was then proud to serve as vice president to our first black president, Barack Obama.
00:09And I was proud to ask Kamala Harris to run with me,
00:13be the first black woman to serve as vice president of the United States.
00:17Judges matter.
00:20Courts matter.
00:22The law matters.
00:25And the Constitution matters.
00:27I think a lot of Americans are starting to realize that under the pressure under now
00:33with this guy we have as president.
00:36Oh, get ready, folks.
00:39This is just starting.
00:42Folks, in our lives, in the life of our nation,
00:47there are moments so stark that they divide all that came before
00:53from everything that followed.
00:57We are, in my view, at such a moment in American history,
01:01reflected in every cruel executive outreach,
01:07every rollback of basic freedoms,
01:10every erosion of long-standing established precedent.
01:13We've seen the laws, the law firms,
01:18bowing to pressure,
01:20bending to bullies
01:21instead of staying rooted in justice and the law,
01:26including some of the largest newspapers in America.
01:29We see the apparent glee
01:31some of our politicians expressed that's while watching immigrants
01:37who are in this country legally torn from the arms of their family,
01:42dragged away in handcuffs from the only home they've ever known.
01:47My friends, we need to face the hard truth of this administration.
01:53It has been to ease all the gains we've made in my administration,
01:59to erase history rather than make it,
02:03to erase fairness, equality,
02:05to erase justice itself.
02:08And that's not hyperbole.
02:09That's a fact.
02:11These are dark days.
02:13But you're all here for the same reason
02:15that I left that prestigious law firm
02:17and the public defender's office
02:18to go to the defender's office years ago.
02:20It's because our future is literally on the line.
02:23We must be unapologetic of fighting for the future.
02:29We must be unapologetic of fighting for the future.
02:53We must be unapologetic of fighting for the future.
03:11We must be unapologetic of fighting for the future.
03:16Those are the two reasons why you said
03:18we got wealth of fighting for fighting for powerент involvement.
