00:00Hey, what's up? Come in.
00:17So, hi there, this is Stefan from Oskira. We are here with Shred First 2025.
00:21We are at Reggie's Chicago. Played the venue a couple of times.
00:25And we also traveled with this lovely vehicle a couple of times.
00:28It's not new, it's not too old. I mean, it's like an Italian car.
00:32Outside, wonderful, inside, rotten and a little bit of maintenance is needed.
00:37But aside that, lovely bus, this is the dining area, slash the most luxury thing you can imagine
00:45once you started touring as, well, from the very, very lowest ground.
00:51When we started with the van, we did, of course, all the van tours.
00:55No driver, no merchandise seller, doing everything on our own.
00:59Get overwhelmed by the time differences in the big country like the US.
01:04When you think you are in time and then you lose an hour and then another hour
01:07and then you really hate life. So, that has been the past.
01:11Took just around 20 years.
01:13Now we are here. We have a lovely old bus.
01:15But to be honest, you can have the best bus and the most luxury vehicle to travel around
01:22if the driver doesn't know what he's doing.
01:24And in this case, it is what it is.
01:27It's a used bus, but the driver is absolutely extraordinary cool.
01:32It's an old, experienced guy who has seen everything. I mean everything.
01:36So, whenever you sit in the front, he is telling you stories of, I don't know, Nickelback.
01:41They have a nice reputation of, I don't know, old acts like Metal Crew, of Metallica.
01:48Iron Maiden, so the guy has been here around since 40 years on the road.
01:51It's quite a gem to have someone like this on the road.
01:54Anyway, let's show. I want to show you the bus.
01:57Well, different characters, different cultures and in the very end we end up watching music videos
02:03because the Europeans are not too keen on American soccer or American football
02:09and sports over here.
02:11And vice versa, no one wants to see Premier League over here.
02:14So, in the end it's music videos or like, I don't know, Netflix at times.
02:20But usually we listen to music, we're hanging out.
02:23It's quite a social group of people.
02:29We're on this bus, we're 14, plus driver 15.
02:32So, it's like a submarine on wheels, so to say.
02:35And after a couple of days you figure who has which edges in his or her character.
02:42Quite interesting, every time.
02:43You don't know which people you're traveling with and cultures clash.
02:47But in the very end, if you're open-minded, if you're just cool, if you're not a dick, then I think it's easy to get along.
02:54Of course, dining area.
02:57There's always team, everything is clean.
02:59And there's team, I leave my shit everywhere where it is.
03:02And I don't clean anything.
03:04It's one of those characters I mentioned.
03:06But hey, in the end you work together as a group and you live together.
03:10It's the same as with a shared apartment.
03:13If you have a, I don't know, if you went to college, if you moved to a dorm or something.
03:18You know exactly what I'm talking about.
03:20Most important, every evening after the show is done, we take all the water from the venues to make coffee.
03:27So we are all very strong coffee drinkers.
03:29I'm not sure about the US equivalent, but we drink a couple of liters every day.
03:34So this baby is our holy grail.
03:39And in case it breaks down, we have two backup coffee machines.
03:42No shit.
03:43Very important.
03:44Oh, it burns.
03:46We have a George forming grill.
03:48Never used it, but we have it.
03:51And what else we have here?
03:54Everything you need.
03:56The coffee.
03:57It's the biggest we found.
03:59That's very important.
04:01Besides that, of course, US Americans, they're into peanut butter and jelly.
04:08I don't understand up to this day.
04:13We have an egg maker for all those who are not vegan.
04:17And to be honest, on this tour, the entire group is kind of mixed.
04:22So sometimes you have weird group dynamics if the group is completely divided between omnivores, people that eat everything,
04:29and vegans that are a little bit more picky at times, or they have to because of their diet.
04:35But here, everybody respects each other.
04:38And I mean, we try out a couple of things.
04:41So it's kind of cool.
04:43Also when it comes to the fridge, of course, we have to divide it.
04:47But again, 14 people on a bus means this is stuffed to the max.
04:52Of course, stacked to the max with the most unhealthy stuff you can find.
04:57But vegan.
04:59So it must be good.
05:01We have two lounges.
05:02The front lounge, by far the biggest one.
05:04It's more like a dining area.
05:06We hang out together.
05:07We listen to music, as mentioned.
05:09Well, after the show, some people always grab some food or make something in this little kitchen.
05:16So this is more the hangout, social part of the bus.
05:20In the back lounge, we have another small table and another small couch.
05:24And it's divided from the rest with a little door.
05:27So of course, this is more the working area.
05:29So we have a little printer, a little office, and basically everything you need on the tour.
05:36There's one bathroom wall.
05:38Don't mess it up.
05:39Now, to be honest.
05:41I mean, this is really a significant part of traveling together.
05:46It's just hygiene.
05:47And you just need to clean everything.
05:50And everybody has to do that.
05:51And if not, the group dynamics can drift down into some edgy situations.
05:58But on this one, we haven't had it.
06:00Also again, we have a great driver.
06:02He takes care of the details.
06:05Of course, you have the group.
06:07You have to take care of your own shit.
06:10But in the very end, you need some person who is taking care of the little details.
06:15You know, filling up soap, filling up detergent, filling up whatever you need on the bus.
06:23Not the personal stuff, but on the bus, so to say.
06:25So, again, it's a group effort.
06:29If you haven't been in a bus for at least two or three weeks, you don't know what I'm talking about.
06:34But I would recommend to do it at one point.
06:37Bunks!
06:41Many bunks?
06:45We have nice bunks.
06:47We have not so nice bunks.
06:50Mine is here.
06:51It's a mess.
06:52You shouldn't go there.
06:54Picking bunks is a little bit...
06:56It's a gamble.
06:57Because you never know which is the most loud or the most hot or the most cold bunk.
07:02And it's an ongoing discussion between our American friends and the Europeans.
07:06The Americans, they would like to freeze in a fucking fridge every evening and day.
07:11Which is a little bit weird if the sun is shining outside and you're sitting inside with two jackets and you're freezing.
07:19It's a cultural difference, but hey, it is what it is.
07:22And from our perspective, I'm rather a lizard.
07:26I want to sit in a t-shirt and shorts.
07:29But, well, week number three, maybe by week number five we found a solution.
07:34So, this is the lovely working area slash another hangout area.
07:43So, most movies have been watched on this little TV over here.
07:47This is basically where we settle all shows, merchandise, you know, there's the business aspect of touring.
07:55And it's cozy, it's nice.
07:58We have three additional bunks over here that are a little bit too hot, I hear.
08:06No comments.
08:07No comments.
08:08No comments.
08:09From the American.
08:10It's really cool because sometimes you have a couple of bands or crew members who just want to party,
08:16they want to have a good time, they want to listen to music,
08:18and then you have this area where it's a little bit more cozy inside.
08:22So, it's cool.
08:23Again, it's group dynamics, respect each other a little bit.
08:27But this here is really, really cool if you want to have a little bit more sign-in spots.
08:32Hey, this is Stefan from Obscura and Tourcandra.
08:36We are touring North America since many, many years,
08:39and we are just grateful to finally drive in the bus like this.
08:44And that's absolutely honest.
08:46We are absolutely grateful to drive in the bus after all those years.
08:50And still, we respect and honor everyone who is doing all those long, long rides in a van or in a sprinter.
08:59I mean, there are a couple of solutions, but this is really comfy.
09:03This is not luxurious, but it's perfect for, well, underground death metal bands like us.
09:08And I hope you are visiting more shows and, well, make other bands doing the same spot.
