00:00My name is Bruce Peter and I'm the Professor of Design History at the Glasgow School of Art.
00:04We're in the school's Reid Gallery where there's a new exhibition called Art Deco Scotland Design
00:11and Architecture in the Jazz Age. The Art Deco style spread from Paris all around the world in
00:18the 1920s and 30s and many in Scotland associated it with a better future. The era was very turbulent
00:28politically and economically and it was hoped that by investing in up-to-date design and in
00:35new light industries, the country's economy might be improved. The exhibition covers 10
00:42different themes through which Art Deco was experienced in Scotland and we also have a
00:48magnificent new book published by Historic Environment Scotland and with the same title.
00:54I'm very proud of the collaboration between Glasgow School of Art and Historic Environment Scotland
01:00and I hope that you enjoy the exhibition and the book.
