00:00As Glasgow's bonfires now are being cancelled for another year, there are public calls to
00:05reinstate them, arguing it's safer to have an organised event as it reduces misuse. This
00:10comes after the City Council ordered a firework control zone in part of the south side, meaning
00:15anyone who uses them there can face a fine or jail time. The Scottish Greens are calling
00:21for Glasgow Life to reconsider their decision to cancel the annual event, saying the Scottish
00:26Fire and Rescue Service support it. On the official webpage, the fire service states
00:31it's always safer to attend an organised bonfire or firework display than hosting one yourself.
00:37There has not been a public firework display in Glasgow since 2019, meaning citizens have
00:42had to travel outwith the city. Glasgow Life have said cancelling the event altogether
00:47is more environmentally friendly and causes less disruption to locals. It is being further
00:52argued that public displays mean less antisocial behaviour as they can be properly risk assessed.
