00:07For 144 years, the Birdsville racers have been drawing thousands of people into one of Australia's most remote corners.

00:16The latest edition of the iconic Outback Carnival wrapped up in Queensland over the weekend,
00:21with New Zealand gelding Ritihi taking out the Birdsville Cup.
00:28But the racing is only part of the attraction.
00:30It's so unique and very special.
00:33We race on a natural clay pan, which I think we might be one of the few in the country,
00:38if not the world.
00:39It's a very good racing surface, very fair. It needs very little maintenance.
00:44So we rock up each year, run a grater around it and a drag and away we go.
00:48From yabby races and auctions at the Birdsville Hotel,
00:51to live entertainment and fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service,
00:55the event turns the tiny outback town into one of Australia's biggest weekends.
