Historic Gold for Lytvynenko as Sulamanidze Triumphs in Baku

Yelyzaveta Lytvynenko made history at -78kg, defeating Kaila Issoufi to become the UAE’s first-ever judo world champion. At -100kg, Georgia’s Ilia Sulamanidze overcame Dota Arai in the final to claim his first world title, turning previous bronze into gold.

00:00Welcome back to the Baku World Judo Championships.
00:03At under 78kg, Kyla Isufi of France was on great form,
00:07working her way through the draw with some impressive judo along the way.
00:12Isufi looked ready to make the most of her opportunity on the world stage.
00:20Facing her was Elizaveta Litvinenko of the UAE.
00:24The world number two's fantastic judo had carried her all the way to the world
00:28championship final in Baku.
00:34She stepped onto the tatami,
00:36knowing this was her chance to produce the biggest result of her career.
00:50In the final, Litvinenko wasted little time imposing herself,
00:54scoring Wazari from an impressive Ouachigari that caught Isufi off guard and offered an early advantage.
01:02She then decisively ended the contest with a second score,
01:07marking not just her first gold medal at the world championships,
01:11but the first judo world champion ever for the United Arab Emirates.
