00:00This is some wedding. How the paper are those?
00:03Dude sells his toys and it's like a half a million dollars. It's crazy, right?
00:07Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:09And today, we're counting down our picks for the old school collectibles that'll sell for big bucks
00:13and those that you should leave on the shelf.
00:16I'm gonna take you out to dinner with the money I get for this little guy.
00:19And that's exactly what I did.
00:22You're lucky there's still a place that serves anything for $1.50.
00:27Number 15. Disappointing. Depression glass.
00:30It may hail from a historic time period,
00:33but that hasn't had a significant impact on its value in the present day.
00:36The aptly named depression glass was often included in purchases majoring the Great Depression.
00:42This meant that the mass-produced, translucent glassware spread far and wide
00:46by the time the 1930s came to a close.
00:48You would go to the movies and you might get a glass.
00:51The following week, you would go to the movies and you might get a plate.
00:55And then you might have to buy their product and send in box tops and $2.50
01:00to get maybe the picture that would match up with that.
01:03To say the market has been oversaturated would be an understatement.
01:07Unless you happen to have some in a rare color, such as red or cobalt, or just a lot of
01:13it,
01:13then you won't net much of a profit.
01:15Even in the best condition, many pieces will sell for between $5 and $30 each.
01:20So it may be best to just keep these as a memento of your ancestors' resilience.
01:25Not as valuable, which again, not as always a big deal,
01:29but it's not as sought after either.
01:31So I mean, it does hurt your collection a little bit.
01:33Number 15. Valuable. Vintage Polly Pockets.
01:37Barbie isn't the only doll in your childhood bedroom that's worth some money.
01:41Those Polly Pocket cases may be what's standing between you and hundreds of dollars.
01:51But there is a catch.
01:53Anything made after Mattel acquired the company in 1998
01:56is significantly less valuable than those made while Bluebird Toys was at the helm.
02:01Certain variants made during the Bluebird Toys era can earn you a significant profit.
02:06For example, a Children's Hospital edition from 1995 can get you up to $5,000.
02:11While themed variations like the Alice in Wonderland kit can earn you around $700.
02:16While the amount varies depending on each toy's condition and level of completeness,
02:20there is a chance you could cover your month's rent with just one set.
02:24Pocket has the biggest little town around.
02:26Wow!
02:27Lots of pretty houses and friends to be found.
02:30Number 14. Disappointing. Vintage Metal Lunchboxes.
02:34It's easy to assume that older products featuring an iconic character will be worth more.
02:39Metal Lunchboxes in particular seem like the perfect intersection between vintage charm and nostalgic properties.
02:45This would be something neat to collect.
02:46So I picked it up and never looked back.
02:50Been picking them up ever since.
02:51Attempting to sell them makes it clear that it takes more than that to create a valuable item.
02:56Most aged Lunchboxes, even those with the thermos still included,
03:00go for an average of $90, with some dropping to as low as $30.
03:05Those with common titles fare even worse, with an average price of $35 to $45.
03:10The cost depends on their state, and considering they were primarily used by children,
03:15the chances of one being in pristine condition are slim.
03:19So instead of listing one online, we'd suggest keeping it as a memento.
03:23You know, it's just a time capsule to bring back the memories.
03:29It's a real reward to see that.
03:33Number 14. Valuable.
03:351988 Playmates Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Action Figures.
03:39Cowabunga Collectors.
03:41Fans of the Heroes in a Half Shell will be delighted to know
03:44that their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures could earn them years' worth of pizza money.
03:48Dude, those things are like 20 years old.
03:51They're not exactly modern.
03:53They're vintage. It took me six years to collect them.
03:56Six years!
03:58The original 1988 line is the most lucrative,
04:01whether it's one of the quartet or a side character.
04:04Unopened first editions have sold for the most,
04:06with a sealed and graded shredder in silver armor being worth up to $50,000.
04:12Other rare editions kept in similar conditions can go for $2,000 to $5,000.
04:16The best part?
04:17Unlike other collectibles, they don't necessarily have to be boxed to turn a profit.
04:22Some sellers have sold loose figures for around $600.
04:25As long as yours are in good condition, you could have similar luck.
04:29Now, Crang, you can't have everything you see on TV.
04:34Oh, if you're real good, maybe you'll get one for Christmas.
04:39Number 13. Disappointing.
04:41Thomas Kinkade Prints.
04:42While you may think pieces crafted by a famous artist would automatically come with a higher price tag,
04:48that isn't always the case.
04:50There's something to be said for rarity.
04:52And considering Thomas Kinkade's claim that his works hung in one in every 20 American homes,
04:58his art is anything but rare.
05:00Thomas Kinkade is now a brand.
05:05Thomas Kinkade is a multi-dimensional lifestyle brand similar to Martha Stewart or Ralph Lauren.
05:11His prints, which often depict idyllic scenes like cafes and forests, have depreciated in worth.
05:17One buyer reported spending $6,000 per piece back in the 90s,
05:21only to be offered a few hundred in return 25 years later.
05:25They aren't the only ones.
05:27Most standard paper prints by Kinkade only cost between $185 and $310.
05:33So you may just decide to keep it as a decorative piece in your home.
05:37I have about 20 of his paintings.
05:3980 paintings.
05:40Approximately 175 of his paintings.
05:42Yeah, way too many.
05:43Feeling nostalgic after seeing all these vintage goodies?
05:46The Ms. Mojo 24-7 livestream has you covered.
05:49Scan the QR code on screen to join us live for non-stop pop culture fun.
05:53You bought a Soongi horn?
05:55For music night on the ship.
05:57Now, if we only had some woodwinds.
06:00Number 13.
06:01Valuable.
06:021969 Woodstock Festival posters.
06:05Who knew that three days of peace and music could eventually lead to a big payday?
06:09What none of the original Woodstock Festival attendees were aware of
06:12was that posters commemorating the event would be worth something decades later.
06:16You don't even have to bother bringing your tickets or anything because they aren't going to collect them.
06:21There's no way they can.
06:24They've got a fence that's like half up and there are people just sitting in that field.
06:28It's really beautiful.
06:29While there were a few posters available, including one featuring Jimi Hendrix,
06:33the most prized have become the original with a red background and a dove perched on top of the guitar.
06:39The Woodstock Art Fair, all the names, and they were driving the printer crazy because each time he had to
06:48change the plates.
06:48Those in good condition have sold at auction for four figures, with signed copies increasing the price by several hundred.
06:55Although the overall price could be impacted by any damage done to the poster,
06:59one could easily make a profit selling to someone who wants a piece of music history.
07:03Just an absolutely beautiful, compelling, signed, board poster for Woodstock from the David Swartz Concert Poster Collection.
07:12So, boy, this one's really worth having, believe me.
07:14Number 12. Disappointing. Longaberger Baskets.
07:18Towards the end of the 20th century, this company exploded in popularity.
07:23Much of Longaberger's success came from the sale of its woven baskets.
07:27At its height, the Longaberger company was a billion-dollar-a-year business, with 12,000 employees worldwide.
07:34They were popular amongst collectors, many of whom likely believe they could go for a pretty penny someday in the
07:40future.
07:41Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case.
07:44Unless you happen to have a rare version, a signed copy, or a standard version in perfect condition,
07:50the chances of it being worth anything are minimal.
07:52Many that are sold online usually go from around $20 to $35,
07:57while those who have kept track of their liners over the years can sell them for a little more.
08:01Regardless, it's clear these baskets aren't the payday many were hoping they'd be.
08:05Our most limited, Frank, is still the vintage. That's the chocolatey color.
08:11Number 12. Valuable. Louis Vuitton Trunks.
08:14Before the company became synonymous with luxury, its products had a much more utilitarian usage.
08:20In the mid-19th century, Louis Vuitton revolutionized the travel game by creating an easily stackable canvas trunk.
08:26During the age of exploration, when journeys set off to the Far East and Africa and Asia,
08:31Louis Vuitton was able to use new materials such as aluminum in order to enable his trunks to be waterproof
08:36and airtight as well.
08:38These items soon took off.
08:40And while the business doesn't focus on them anymore,
08:43those produced through the early 20th century are still incredibly valuable today.
08:47They're highly sought after by luxury collectors, many of whom are willing to pay a high price for an authentic
08:53piece.
08:53You paid 12 whole pounds, or your dad paid 12 whole pounds?
08:57He did.
08:57Okay.
08:593,000 pounds?
09:00Wow.
09:02That's rather nice.
09:03While many vintage Louis Vuitton trunks can be resold for thousands depending on size and condition,
09:08others can go for even more.
09:10In a 2024 online auction, a copper edition sold for just over $200,000,
09:16while another made of zinc went for just under $88,000.
09:20Number 11. Disappointing.
09:22Hummel figurines.
09:24Yet another case of a collectible's popularity coming back to bite it.
09:28Throughout the 20th century, people clamor to add Hummel figurines to their homes.
09:32In the United States alone, a nationwide club of collectors has more than 200,000 members.
09:39Generations later, their worth has dipped considerably.
09:42Standard versions struggle to sell for more than $75, with most maxing out between $15 and $30.
09:48According to some experts, the online market became so saturated with the painted figures
09:54that their costs began to naturally decline, leading to their lower price tags today.
09:58There are some exceptions to this, with rarer and more intricate variations showing more promise in auctions.
10:04But unless you happen to have a flawless apple tree boy or girl,
10:09we'd recommend just leaving these in the China cabinet for another few decades.
10:12Value on the pair, about $500 for the pair.
10:16That's right.
10:17Remember, marks are going to be important.
10:19The age is going to be important, as well as the condition.
10:21It matters, and that will impact the value.
10:24Number 11. Valuable.
10:26Rare coins.
10:27It's odd to think that someone could be carrying a fortune in their pocket.
10:31Yet that's exactly the case for those collecting certain rare vintage coins.
10:35We do feel pretty comfortable saying that it will reach into the nine figures.
10:39It's an amazing collection, and when amazing collections come to market,
10:43once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, coins that have been off the market for decades or multiple decades,
10:48only opportunity to acquire unique specimens or unique specimens in private hands,
10:54really anything can happen.
10:55For example, an authentic 1933 St. Gaudens Double Eagle gold piece was auctioned off for $18.9 million in 2021.
11:04Although that's an extreme example, your collection, whether it's just one coin or a bunch,
11:09could also net a solid profit.
11:11Some coins from the 20th century with slight imperfections can earn you hundreds to thousands,
11:16depending on the rarity of the error.
11:18Other rare additions dating back centuries can bring in four figures as well.
11:22So the next time you see an old-looking coin on the ground, take a closer look.
11:26It may just be the key to your early retirement.
11:30I found a penny!
11:34Could this be the best day of my life?
11:37Number 10. Disappointing. Disney VHS Tapes.
11:41With how far technology has come, it makes sense that public interest in VHS tapes has faded away.
11:46But still, those VHS tapes of old Disney films carry serious nostalgia.
11:51With the introduction of home video, the 80s through the 90s was a crucial era in Disney history,
11:57starting in 1980 with Walt Disney Home Video.
12:00This summer, give your family an adventure they'll never forget.
12:03Walt Disney's Robin Hood on videocassette.
12:06Capture the fun today.
12:07From 1984 to 1994, the company released a line called Walt Disney Classics on VHS,
12:13starting with Robin Hood and continuing with everything from Pinocchio to Cinderella to Peter Pan,
12:18and many more.
12:20Nowadays, the vast majority of Disney VHS tapes only go for a few bucks on eBay and at thrift stores
12:26and such.
12:26For Disney collectible fans, that's a bargain.
12:29So hurry, get Walt Disney Home Video's new mini classics.
12:33Only $14.95 each.
12:35Fill your home with magic.
12:37Number 10. Valuable. Hot Wheels Cars.
12:41Toy giant Mattel introduced Hot Wheels in 1968.
12:44For decades, they've been the go-to car toys for kids.
12:47But they've become much more than that.
12:50Even for automobile-loving adults, these well-designed, detailed mini cars have become prized possessions.
12:56Um, a bargain for the rarest of all rare toys.
13:01$150,000. Um, damn. I don't even touch it.
13:06Originally selling for scents, many throwback models have appreciated substantially.
13:10Examples include the 1971 Spectraflame Purple Bifocal and the 1972 Pink Superfine Turbine, both rare editions with estimated values as
13:20high as the thousands.
13:21But even more common Hot Wheels cars can fetch a nice return on investment.
13:26Redline Hot Wheels cars, produced from 1968 to 1977, featuring red stripes across the tires, can be worth three digits
13:34in decent condition.
13:35From cents to that? Not bad.
13:37There's some heavy hitters in the Hot Wheels world that would jump on a prototype like this.
13:42So it'd be easily $100,000 for this car.
13:46Number 9. Disappointing. Commemorative State Quarters.
13:49Is it unreasonable to think certain quarters should be worth much more than 25 cents?
13:54Perhaps. But we're doing it anyway.
13:55The 50-State Quarter Program, introduced in 1999, was a welcome sight for U.S. coin collectors.
14:02Announcing the new 50-State Quarters from the United States Men's.
14:06Hmm, special effects.
14:08You could slot each commemorative state quarter into your organized collector's book.
14:12The coins, with their very neat and detailed designs, were a massive hit.
14:17Now you can organize and protect your coins as you enjoy collecting each quarter in this exciting series.
14:22Kids will have so much fun trading them, and it's a chance to trade something that actually has value.
14:28According to the U.S. Mint government page, an estimated 147 million Americans collected them.
14:35Given the coins' awesome designs, and the high level of public interest,
14:39it's hard to wrap our heads around them not being more valuable today, apart from ones with rare errors.
14:45We suppose, after all, they are quarters.
14:48Still, we wouldn't use these at the gumball machine.
14:50Fifty new quarters will be issued over the next ten years, one to represent each state.
14:55In 1999, five coins were issued.
14:57These highly collectible coins will never be minted again.
15:00Number nine, valuable, vintage Barbie dolls.
15:04Ruth Handler changed the world of dolls forever with the introduction of Barbie in 1959.
15:09Given how far it's come since, it's no wonder those early Barbies are so valuable today.
15:14The first-ever one, sporting a black-and-white swimsuit and ponytail, can go for thousands of dollars, even in
15:20mediocre condition.
15:22In mint condition, then we're talking close to $30,000.
15:26Back in 1959, it cost just three.
15:28Barbie dressed for swim and fun is only $3.
15:31Her lovely fashions range from $1 to $5.
15:34Look for Barbie wherever dolls are sold.
15:37Besides the original, there are also multiple other vintage Barbies that are now worth hundreds and even thousands of dollars.
15:43American Girl dolls deserve a mention here, too, as certain older editions can also be worth a lot.
15:49But Barbie gets the spot on our list because she's the queen of this.
15:52I think that you have no problem whatsoever getting somewhere between, you know, $7,500 and $8,000 for this
16:02doll.
16:02Number 8. Disappointing. Vintage Playboy Magazines.
16:06Unless it's the 1953 first edition with Marilyn Monroe, those vintage Playboy magazines aren't worth as much as one would
16:13think based on their mega status and historical influence in pop culture.
16:17How do you know so much about Playboys?
16:20Trust me, chum. I know.
16:21This is amazing. This is the most collectible issue of Playboy ever.
16:25Most Playboys are worth a few bucks. This is worth a few thousand.
16:28Most editions from the 60s and 70s are very unlikely to crack three figures in value.
16:34Even many copies from the 50s are no guarantee whatsoever to rake in that amount, especially if not in pristine
16:40condition.
16:41And without the centerfold? Forget it.
16:44These days, collections of Playboy issues from the 70s and on, even ones featuring some of the biggest sex icons
16:50of their time, routinely sell for only a few bucks per magazine on eBay.
16:54Hey, Joey, Playboy printed my joke.
16:56What? No, no, no.
16:57It's mine. It's my joke. You can call them. They'll tell you.
16:59It's my joke.
17:00It's my joke.
17:00Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
17:02Jokes?
17:04You guys know they have naked chicks in there, right?
17:07Number 8. Valuable. 90s Pokemon cards.
17:10While the Pokemon craze may have peaked in the late 90s and early 2000s, make no mistake about it.
17:16Pokemon cards are alive and well.
17:18Today, plenty of collectors jump at the opportunity to get their hands on the best cards from the Golden Age.
17:24Fast forward to a resurgence in Pokemon popularity, making some OG merchandise worth a pretty penny.
17:30This 1999 first edition Charizard at Sotheby's sold for almost $200,000.
17:36Rare Pikachus and Charizards released between 1997 and 1999 steal the show.
17:42In 2021, a 1998 Pikachu illustrator, graded in mint 10 condition by PSA, sold for over $6 million.
17:51A PSA 9 went for nearly $1.48 million that same year.
17:55YouTuber Logan Paul famously bought one for $150,000 in 2020.
18:00His mint condition, first edition Charizard, is considered the holy grail of Pokemon cards.
18:05During the 2020s, multiple other rare Pikachus and Charizards have sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
18:11Base set cards, particularly rare holo versions with high grades, have great value and demand.
18:17The nostalgia of these hits different.
18:19This card could go $30,000 to $40,000.
18:24Altogether, I'm estimating anywhere from $380,000 to $390,000 for this collection.
18:30Number 7. Disappointing.
18:32Encyclopedia Britannica sets.
18:34Traditional print encyclopedias have become obsolete in the digital age.
18:39Even the famous Encyclopedia Britannica faced the reality of that,
18:43with its print run of more than 240 years coming to an end in 2010.
18:47The digital version became all that was needed.
18:50And even though some would argue there's nothing quite like a physical book,
18:54the low values of vintage Encyclopedia Britannica sets don't reflect that.
18:58It's the new Encyclopedia Britannica.
19:00Encyclopedia Britannica.
19:02Now you tell me. I've got a report due tomorrow.
19:05On what?
19:05On the exploration of space.
19:07On the whole, they're worth much, much less than what they originally sold for.
19:11Many sets from the 21st century that originally went for $1,000 to $3,000 may not even be worth
19:17a couple of hundred nowadays.
19:18Knowledge acquisition has changed, and apparently people aren't all that interested in the old ways.
19:24These days, it's rare that students, like these fifth graders at Eisenhower Academy in Joliet, Illinois,
19:31would even pick up a physical copy of Britannica.
19:35Number 7. Valuable Tiffany Lamps
19:38These gorgeous lamps produced between the 1890s and 1920s are true works of art.
19:44And sale trends during the 21st century tell us they're still viewed in extremely high regard.
19:49You can see why.
19:50The most valuable Tiffany Lamps have gone for millions of dollars.
19:54For example, a rare 1903 Pond Lily Lamp sold for a record-breaking $3,372,500 at auction in 2018.
20:04A Trumpet Creeper Tiffany Lamp, also from 1903, exchanged hands for $2,295,000 in 2018.
20:11Today, a Tiffany Lamp can sell for anywhere from thousands to millions of dollars at auction.
20:16But Noble sees deeper meaning hidden in the glass.
20:19How choices made by a group of women left their mark on the future.
20:23Other vintage Tiffany Lamps have sold for hundreds of thousands,
20:26and there are plenty of examples of ones worth tens of thousands.
20:29These were originally expensive, but nothing like this, obviously.
20:33Vintage Lamps are very much still desirable for collectors, especially ones as beautiful as these.
20:39This is a Tiffany Lamp. Those of you who know Tiffany Lamps know this is a good one,
20:43because from around 1905 to 1910, just sold at auction for $541,000.
20:50Number six, disappointing. Franklin Mint Plates.
20:53Most of these vintage collector plates from the 70s and 80s now sell for less than 10 bucks a pop.
20:58Their values lie in their decorative and sentimental nature, not financially.
21:03It evokes all the emotion of the original scene,
21:06and can be yours now at the issue price of $27.50 from the Bradford Exchange.
21:11Franklin Mint Plates used to be one of the most popular decorative plates out there,
21:15once considered investments for some collectors.
21:17But those positive outlooks flipped for the worse around the turn of the century.
21:21Some may remember the artistry of Franklin Mint's Norman Rockwell line of plates,
21:25but even those are now only worth a fraction of their original retail values.
21:29Not all plates go up in value. Some go down.
21:32But the Bradford Exchange can often recommend plates that show excellent potential,
21:36like this earlier exceptional gone with the wind plate.
21:39Number six, valuable. Classic Film Posters.
21:43The golden age of Hollywood is obviously remembered through the many timeless classic films we still watch.
21:48That cinematic history also persists in the form of film posters.
21:52Very, very valuable film posters.
21:54The 1933 check one sheet for King Kong.
21:58It's expected to fetch more than $80,000.
22:02In the old days, film posters were printed in much more limited quantities,
22:06and many were discarded.
22:08Ones that weren't have been steadily climbing in value for decades.
22:12During the 21st century, multiple film posters from 1920s and 1930s classics
22:17have sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
22:19And I picked this up for about $72,000 five or six years ago,
22:24and today its value is well over $200,000.
22:28Examples include a record-breaking $690,000 for a poster of the 1927 film Metropolis,
22:35as well as $525,800 for a 1931 Dracula poster, just to name a couple.
22:42While those are rarities, of course, other vintage film posters can be worth a pretty penny too.
22:47The most expensive poster Heritage ever sold was a Dracula Style A one-sheet,
22:52and that sold for over $540,000.
22:56Number 5. Disappointing.
22:58Pogs.
22:59For all the buzz Pogs caused on school playgrounds,
23:02it's too bad they're not highly coveted these days.
23:04I'm really sorry.
23:06I kind of traded your soul to the guy at the comic book store.
23:09But look, I got some cool Pogs.
23:12Health Pogs.
23:13Think those special hologram Pogs might be valuable?
23:16Well, you might only be able to get a few bucks for those.
23:19Well, I have, like, the originals.
23:21They're, like, expensive. They're, like, $0.50 each.
23:24And then I have some of the fake ones, like, around there.
23:27And they're, like, $0.10 each.
23:29There are some vintage holographic skull designs that can fetch $40-plus on eBay.
23:33But aside from that, if you still have your regular old Pogs collection,
23:37even with all those designs we thought were so cool back then,
23:41you're likely to be disappointed with the return.
23:44Pog! Pog!
23:50At this point, you might as well start playing again.
23:53Or just give them away.
23:55Number five, valuable, vintage Leica cameras.
23:59Now we're talking.
24:00Leica cameras, developed in Germany, date back to the roaring 20s.
24:04Or, as they're known in Germany, the golden 20s.
24:07What do all these people have in common?
24:09Well, they all use Leica cameras.
24:15In 2022, a 1923 O-series Leica became the most expensive camera ever sold.
24:21How much, you ask?
24:22Well, try $15 million.
24:25Yes, you heard that right.
24:27Sure, that's an outlier.
24:28But another 1923 Leica sold at auction for $2.97 million.
24:33That's not too shabby either.
24:35Later, Leica models can also fetch a pretty penny.
24:38Take, for instance, a rare black 1957 Leica MP that went for $1.34 million.
24:44Other less rare and worse conditioned vintage Leicas can still put hundreds or even thousands of dollars in your pocket.
24:50This is a camera that I own.
24:52This is the Leica 1A.
24:53It was not a $3 million camera.
24:55I paid about $1,600 for this.
24:57But it was the first production camera that Leica ever made.
25:00People will pay a lot to look through a lens of the past.
25:03Number four, disappointing, 1990s Happy Meal toys.
25:07There were so many legendary Happy Meal toys in the 90s.
25:11Ones that now have nostalgia written all over them.
25:14But apparently, such nostalgia doesn't equate to a significant price tag.
25:18Even decades removed.
25:19What's a McDonald's Happy Meal?
25:21One of four Nintendo Super Mario Bros. 3 toys.
25:24You'd likely have to sell a whole batch of 90s Happy Meal toys for it to be even worth the
25:28time to try to sell them.
25:30Even if the toys are unopened, you might only get a buck or two for each.
25:34A Diet Coke and a...
25:35100 Happy Meals.
25:36100 Happy Meals.
25:37When's lunch?
25:38I mean, one Happy Meal.
25:40Now buy your kid a hamburger Happy Meal at McDonald's for just $1.99 and get a Tiny Toon flip
25:45car.
25:45That goes for throwbacks like the 1991 Tiny Toon Adventures toys and the 1994 The Magic School Bus toys.
25:52As well as more mainstream collectibles McDonald's gave out, like the 1997 Teenie Beanie Babies and the 1999 Furbies.
26:00There's something big at McDonald's.
26:02It's Furby.
26:03And right now there are 80 different colorful characters in all.
26:05Each one's a surprise in every Happy Meal you buy.
26:08Maybe one day people will change their minds about these artifacts.
26:11Number 4.
26:12Valuable.
26:13Original Star Wars action figures.
26:15Vintage figurines from one of the most successful film franchises of all time should be worth something.
26:21And they are.
26:22Now your children can relive our great space battles.
26:25Or collect our wonderful Star Wars companions with Kenner's Star Wars action figures.
26:29The first Kenner Star Wars action figures arrived shortly after the original 1977 film.
26:35A complete set, featuring all the classic characters, can easily go for hundreds of dollars.
26:41It's Luke.
26:41And Obi-Wan.
26:42And my favorite Chewie.
26:44They're all here!
26:45Better yet, on the rare occasion that just one of these action figures is still sealed in the original box,
26:51it can easily go for hundreds on its own.
26:53That's exactly what happened in 2025 for the likes of Obi-Wan, C-3PO, and Princess Leia.
26:59What can we say?
27:00People love Star Wars.
27:01Oh yeah, and check the basement for vintage G.I. Joe action figures too,
27:05because they're also pretty valuable nowadays.
27:07G.I. Joe, America's movable fighting man.
27:11The most realistic toy soldier the world has ever known.
27:15Number 3.
27:16Disappointing.
27:17Precious Moments Figurines.
27:18It means a lot like my mom's Precious Moments Figurines collection.
27:22I have no idea what that means.
27:23He's a fragile little bitch.
27:25Unless your Precious Moments figurine has a signature from founder Sam Butcher,
27:29or is just an ultra-rare edition, it likely isn't worth that much.
27:33That's true of even the earliest versions, which came out in 1978.
27:37A lot of people actually collected these through the 70s and through the 80s,
27:41and I guess through the 90s, but they're not a big seller.
27:45Maybe you can get $10 or even $20 for one, if you're lucky.
27:49But the nostalgic appeal of these religious figurines would lead us to think that they
27:53could be worth much more.
27:55It's much more than just products.
27:57It celebrates precious moments in everybody's life.
28:02We know there's a market for vintage holiday antiques as well,
28:05but even the holiday-themed Precious Moments figurines don't go for that much these days.
28:09Number 3. Valuable. Vinyl Records.
28:12Society may have moved on from vinyl records to an extent, but don't get it twisted.
28:17They're alive and well.
28:18Are all these records?
28:20I've got about 1,578s at this point.
28:24I've tried to pare down my collection to just the essential.
28:27Sure, we have a multitude of ways to stream music more conveniently now,
28:30but many still hold this throwback way of listening close and dear.
28:34In the 2010s, there was a vinyl revival of sorts.
28:37CDs nearly killed records, but when streaming hit, records started selling again, up 18 years in a row.
28:44Some of the rarest one-of-one records have gone for hundreds of thousands of dollars,
28:49but even less scarce vintage vinyl records can go for big bucks if in good condition.
28:53And even the super mass-produced classics can be worth a decent amount.
28:57But for many people, dropping the needle and letting that record spin is priceless.
29:02For this is all a dream we do.
29:06One afternoon on the devil.
29:14A lot of comic book fans have a pretty negative view of the 1990s.
29:19The art style was often loud, and the storytelling didn't always land like it did in the old days.
29:23Even with the rise of new characters like Harley Quinn and Deadpool.
29:27Anyway, I got places to be, a face to fix, and oh, bad guys to kill.
29:33On top of that, the market was absolutely flooded,
29:36with tons of different titles and way too many copies.
29:39That's a big reason why most of them just aren't worth much today.
29:43Got it, got it, got it, got it, got it, got it, got it, got it, got it, got it,
29:51got it, got it, got it, got it, got it, got it, got it, got it, got it, got it,
29:54got it, got it.
29:55Need it!
29:56Still, there were definitely plenty of bright spots.
29:59Like The Sandman, Spawn, and Kingdom Come, just to name a few.
30:03But even those rarely go for much unless they're in near-perfect condition.
30:07Number 2.
30:08Valuable, Vintage Video Games
30:10Factory-sealed classic video games can be worth a fortune.
30:14Look no further than the Nintendo original 1985 Super Mario Bros. game
30:18that sold for $2 million in 2021.
30:21That really happened.
30:22We're not playing.
30:23It's from the test market launch of the NES as far as we know,
30:28which was only in 1985 and 1986.
30:30No one even knew who Nintendo was.
30:32Oh yeah, and what can a 1987 Legend of Zelda game cartridge get you?
30:36Well, apparently, $870,000.
30:40Even if it's a classic that has been played time and time again,
30:43it may very well be worth something.
30:46We will live the game through our hands.
30:47We will be in control of something.
30:50Change the system.
30:51Change the system.
30:53We will change the system.
30:55There's something about those vintage video games
30:57that can scratch a nostalgic gamer's itch.
30:59So don't tell us they're outdated.
31:01They're standing the test of time just fine.
31:04Sam Carather, from a town in regional Victoria,
31:06has a copy of every Nintendo Entertainment System and Game Boy game
31:10released for the Australian market.
31:12It was really kind of the thrill of the chase
31:14of finding different variations.
31:18If you love games,
31:20be sure to check out WatchMojo's new game,
31:22Terrible Influence.
31:23Just launched for purchase at TerribleInfluence.com.
31:26Terrible Influence is a satirical board game
31:28about the dark side of fame
31:29from the writer of the most popular girls in school
31:32and us, WatchMojo.
31:33Boom.
31:34I can make an apology video.
31:36Oh, you so would.
31:37Click on the link in the description
31:38to check out the game
31:39and be the first to play Terrible Influence.
31:44Number one, disappointing, Beanie Babies.
31:47Ah, the 90s collectible phenomenon, the Beanie Baby.
31:51When they're first released,
31:52you can get them for about $5 to $7.
31:54Once they retire, the value goes up.
31:58In like two years, they're worth like $245.
32:02These cute little fellas made countless people smile,
32:05us included, and who knows for how many people
32:07they helped spark an interest in poetry.
32:09Sadly, the craze is gone.
32:11And Beanie Babies clearly don't have
32:13a ton of nostalgic value these days.
32:15Maybe it'll take a few more decades,
32:17or it's just not to be.
32:19Suddenly, investors and collectors
32:21who had hoped to make a living
32:23out of trading plush animals
32:24found themselves with inventory
32:26that was not worth what they once paid.
32:28While there are a few super rare exceptions,
32:31the more regular Beanie Babies
32:32that were a part of so many collections
32:34routinely go for less than their original
32:36$5 retail price.
32:38Considering they're the symbol
32:39of 90s collector culture,
32:41a true icon, that's definitely disappointing.
32:44In a USA Weekend poll estimated
32:46that 64% of Americans owned at least one Beanie Baby.
32:50One divorcing couple had so many,
32:53they needed a judge to fairly split their collection.
32:56Number one, valuable baseball cards.
32:59There are loads of examples
33:01of old baseball cards commanding a lot of dough.
33:03Cards with values in the hundreds
33:05and even the thousands
33:06are much more common
33:07than a lot of people probably think.
33:09It's not the drugs that I care about.
33:12I mean, I care.
33:13It's my baseball cards I need back.
33:18Your baseball cards.
33:20That's especially true for cards
33:22with a mint condition grade
33:23from a reputable card grading company
33:25like PSA or Beckett.
33:26Of course, then you have the big time,
33:29ultimate rare throwback cards
33:30of some of baseball's all-time legends.
33:32Those have gone for hundreds of thousands
33:34and even millions of dollars in some cases.
33:37Last time I checked,
33:38there might've been maybe 40 or 50
33:39of these known to exist.
33:41The highest graded example of this,
33:42I saw sell for over $200,000 not too long ago.
33:45A T-206 Hannes Wagner,
33:47issued between 1909 and 1911,
33:50sold for $7.25 million in 2022.
33:54Later that year,
33:55a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle
33:57sold for $12.6 million.
33:58A mint condition 1952 Mickey Mantle,
34:02here it is, baseball card,
34:04sold for, get this,
34:06$12.6 million yesterday.
34:09Not bad for a piece of cardboard
34:10with a picture on it.
