00:00Good morning, 97.1 Jim Costa, John Jansen, Heather Park, Gov and Greg behind the glass.
00:06Thanks for getting up with us.
00:07Got a question involving going to Ford Field to watch the Detroit Lions.
00:12And it's not my question.
00:13It's a question I saw on TikTok from a Lions fan.
00:17It's a fair or foul, John.
00:19I want to play the audio and then we will discuss amongst ourselves and with all of you.
00:24Greg, let's hit it.
01:13Those are two options.
01:16What do you make of standing at the Lions games?
01:21Too much?
01:23Not enough?
01:26248-539-9797.
01:28That's a fan.
01:29He's a season ticket holder.
01:30He says this guy now behind him is all mad at him.
01:32Yeah.
01:33New guy.
01:34Heather, you seem to be chomping at the bit.
01:36I'm just interested to hear what you have to say, except I might have a different opinion just based off
01:41of your facial expressions.
01:45I think to each their own.
01:49But it impacts everyone, right?
01:50It does.
01:51But I have, if they're giving you something to cheer about on a regular basis, I'm all for standing
02:02for the entire game, being a dad and having Teddy or shorter individuals with me.
02:14And I can understand why somebody would say, hey, can you sit down a little bit?
02:20That my son can't see or my daughter can't see.
02:23But it's not their problem.
02:26It's Teddy's problem.
02:30And so I'm never going to tell somebody at a game.
02:33I would never be that individual standing or sitting behind someone that says, would you please sit down?
02:39Because I get this all the time.
02:40Sometimes when I'm just sitting there, I can be in the way of someone.
02:45And then when I stand up, certainly there are a row or two rows behind me that I know they
02:52can't see.
02:53I do take that into account at times.
02:55But if there is action on the field, I'm going to be up.
03:00I'm going to be cheering.
03:01I am going to be involved in the game.
03:05And so I don't think there's ever a situation.
03:09If you're just standing up and there's nothing going on in the field or there's no excitement going on,
03:17I don't understand why you're standing up.
03:19But I'm not going to be the one that says, hey, down in front.
03:23I actually agree with you.
03:24I think it's just fine.
03:25Big plays, big moments, celebrations, chants, things like that.
03:30Get on your feet.
03:31That creates the excitement in the stadium, right?
03:33It's the whole point of going to the game.
03:34If nobody stood up and got excited, what a lame atmosphere that would be.
03:38I do think it's totally appropriate to be on your feet cheering for your team.
03:41The entire game, I would probably say no.
03:45Try to be a little respectful to the people behind you if they are of shorter stature or there's children
03:52or there's people who just maybe they're elderly and they can't get up as much.
03:56The whole game seems a little excessive unless it is a super exciting game from start to finish.
04:02I mean, I'd be standing up the entire time.
04:05I'm okay with that.
04:06I mean, so yeah, I think you paid for those tickets.
04:08You can stand up and cheer for your team or even at concerts.
04:12There's people who don't stand up at a concert and I am usually on my feet the entire time
04:17because I'm into every single song.
04:19Maybe if it's like a song that's a little slower or that I don't really care for, I'll sit down
04:23and like...
04:24Yeah, slow dance with Colin.
04:27Yeah, exactly.
04:30So I went to the Monday night game against the Bucks last year and it was what he described.
04:34Every big third down, every big play.
04:37A lot of what was his quote, up and down, up and down.
04:42Yeah, that's what it is.
04:43And you shouldn't have to take the excitement out.
04:48No, just because somebody behind you doesn't want to stand as much.
04:51That's their issue, not yours.
04:53And I agree with the audio that we played.
04:57If you want to stand the entire game because that's just how you want to watch the game,
05:01then so be it, all right?
05:03It's not how I would operate, but I'm not going to be the guy behind him and says,
05:07you know, nothing, sit down.
05:09I expect to stand, I'm just throwing this out there,
05:12approximate 75% of the time at a football game.
05:15You know, the reason I don't like going to the big house is because you almost have to stand the
05:19entire time.
05:20Right, because there's not enough room to sit down.
05:22Yeah, and that gets annoying.
05:24You know, the thing is, college football has long commercial breaks, so you can sit during those.
05:28But yeah, I mean, you just go in expecting it.
05:30And like, you went to a Monday night game.
05:31I went to the Tampa playoff game.
05:33And when me and Connor were going, I'm like, you better be ready to stand.
05:36I go, this place is going to be nuts.
05:38Nobody's going to sit.
05:39I have told my kids, it's been a long time since I've been in the stands at a Michigan game.
05:43But thinking back to those moments that I was, you have to plan out, all right,
05:48and you almost have to sit down a split second before you actually want to
05:54so that you can claim your space.
05:59My butt was here first.
06:022-4-8-5-3-9-97-97.
06:05Heather brings up a good point.
06:06It doesn't have to just be football games.
06:07It could be concerts.
06:08I go to a lot of hockey games.
06:09It could be basketball, whatever you want to do, baseball.
06:112-4-8-5-3-9-97-97.
06:14But I think football is where you only have a handful of these games,
06:17or maybe you only go to one game the whole year, and it's a big game, and it's a big
06:21play.
06:21Hey, I'm not going to be yelled at for being down in front.
06:24No, I'm going to stand up and cheer.
06:26Yeah, and I have no issue.
06:28It all depends on the concert, right?
06:30If I'm at the ACDC concert, I'm standing up the entire time.
06:33If I'm at the George Strait concert, there may be people that are standing up the entire time.
06:38But there are times where I'm going to sit down just because I want to be able to relax and
06:41enjoy the music.
06:42But you wouldn't be upset if the person in front of you was standing.
06:44No, because I can still hear.
06:46Yeah.
06:47Hey, we'll get back into the Larkin stuff at 7.35.
06:50The Zach Marshall text as well in the 7 o'clock hour.
06:53But your phone calls right after the update.
06:55It's 97.1.
