00:00As there always will be...
00:02Kamil Puran is delighted to be a part of the West Indies squad for the five-match T20 series against
00:06India.
00:07But in order to get there, Puran had to perform at this year's Republic Bank CPL for St. Lucia Kings,
00:14scoring 273 runs at an average of 39 from eight matches with two half-centuries.
00:19Firstly, I was very speechless. I was in shock.
00:24Like that day when I got the news, I was in shock almost whole training session, whole day, you know,
00:29back home.
00:29But I was very happy also, you know, because I know I put in a lot of work and, you
00:35know, the hard work piece of it.
00:36First person was my mother. You know, I called her as soon as possible.
00:41And when I got back to the hotel after a training session, I called her one time and I told
00:46her.
00:47She was very, very happy and excited.
00:49While he was surprised with his West Indies pick, Puran said even the CPL call-up was surreal, as he
00:55wasn't expecting that.
00:57But that's all history now, and he's grateful to those who backed him during his journey.
01:02My family supports me a lot back home.
01:05My uncle, aunties, everyone there supports me.
01:08I'm 100, you know, so it means a lot to me to make each one of them proud.
01:15And I'm just happy that, you know, I can achieve that goal right now.
01:19Some may have learnt about Puran recently, despite playing for TNT Red Force in the past.
01:25So what are his strengths?
01:28Well, batting, obviously.
01:30I love the square cut, the ball, that's my favourite shot.
01:34Square cut, cover drive.
01:37Yeah, mainly offside, you know, but that's my strength, I would say.
01:41Puran says he has always been a fan of the players whom he's now surrounded by, including Akeel Hossein, who's
01:48won away from 100 T20 internationals.
01:51Time will tell what's in store for the 30-year-old, who has a chance of making his international debut
01:57in India.
01:57Venudna Awani, Chiefs Expoort.
01:59Slaps it, but it feels...
