Christian encouragement for stress is not about pretending life is easy. It is about remembering where your strength, peace, and perspective come from when life becomes demanding.
Most of us know what it feels like to start the day already behind.
There is something waiting at work. Someone needs an answer. A responsibility got added to the schedule. A plan changed. Another issue needs to be solved.
We tell ourselves we will slow down when everything is finished.
The problem is that everything is rarely finished.
So maybe the better question is not, “When will life finally slow down?”
Maybe the better question is, “What am I allowing this busy season to take away from me?”
There are things we can replace and things we cannot.
We can reschedule meetings.
We can redo work.
We can answer an email later.
But we cannot always recover time with someone we love. We cannot replay every ordinary day. We cannot keep postponing gratitude and assume we will eventually remember how to enjoy the life God gave us.
Scripture shows Jesus stepping away from crowds to pray even while people still needed Him.
That is worth thinking about.
Jesus did not wait until everyone was satisfied before spending time with His Father.
Neither should we.
If you have been carrying anxiety, stress, mental exhaustion, pressure, or the feeling that everyone wants something from you, this message is meant to bring you back to a healthier place.
You can care without carrying everything.
You can serve people without losing yourself.
You can pursue success without sacrificing every peaceful moment along the way.
And you can trust God while something remains unfinished.
The world will always offer another reason to hurry. Faith reminds us that life is happening right now.
Take these few minutes for yourself. Listen closely. Think about the people you love, the blessings you may have stopped noticing, and the parts of your relationship with God that deserve more than whatever time is left over.
Sometimes the most important adjustment we make is not changing our entire life. It is simply remembering what belongs at the center of it.

00:01You know, I've been busy lately, busier than I've been in quite some time,
00:08and the funny thing is, I didn't really ask to be this busy. Then again, maybe I did. Maybe some
00:19of the things filling my days are things I prayed for, worked for, hoped for, and wondered if they
00:27would ever actually even really happen. And that thought stopped me for a minute today, because
00:33sometimes, the very life we once asked God to help us build can become so full that we forget to
00:43enjoy
00:44it. Maybe you know exactly what I mean. You wake up thinking about what needs to get done. Before
00:52your feet even hit the ground, your mind is already running. There are messages to answer,
00:59people who need something, appointments, bills, work, family responsibilities, and problems you
01:08didn't even schedule, and interruptions you certainly did not invite. Now, you tell yourself
01:17you'll slow down later. You'll call that person later. You will pray when you get a quiet minute.
01:25You'll enjoy the day once everything settles down. But somehow, everything never quite settles down.
01:34You ever notice that? And that's why I wanted to have this conversation with you today.
01:40Not because you're thinking that busy is bad. Sometimes, being busy means you're building something
01:50worthwhile. Sometimes it means people trust you. Sometimes it means doors have opened. Sometimes it
01:59means God has placed opportunities in front of you. But busy can become dangerous, especially when it
02:08starts convincing us that everything urgent is important. Now, urgency and importance are not the same
02:18thing. Some things demand our attention loudly. The phone rings. The email comes in. The deadline moves
02:29closer. Somebody has a problem, and suddenly their urgency becomes your emergency. Meanwhile, some of the
02:39most important things in life are incredibly quiet. I mean, think about it. Your relationship with God
02:46does not usually scream at you from across the room. The people you love may not always tell you they
02:54need
02:54your time. Your own heart may not send you a calendar invitation saying, you need a little peace today.
03:04The important things are often easy to postpone because they're patient with us. God? Well, God is patient
03:15with us. The people who love us are often patient with us. And sometimes we take advantage of that
03:24patience without even meaning to. You know, Jesus understood pressure. People were constantly
03:32looking for him. Crowds followed him. People needed healing. His disciples had questions. Religious leaders
03:41challenged him. Everywhere he went, someone wanted something. Yet, Scripture repeatedly shows Jesus
03:52stepping away to pray. He made room for his father, even when the world around him had plenty of reasons
04:00to tell him he was too busy. Now, that tells me something. If Jesus didn't allow the demands around him
04:10to completely control the priorities within him, neither should we. And that does not mean we abandon our
04:19responsibilities. It means we remember who we are while we are carrying them. You can be productive
04:27and still be present. You can chase a goal without losing your gratitude. You can work hard without making
04:36work your identity. You know what? You can have a packed calendar and still protect the parts of your life
04:45that make all the effort worthwhile. Sometimes, we need to ask ourselves a simpler question.
04:52If everything on my schedule disappeared tomorrow, what would still matter? Well, God would still matter.
05:03Love would still matter. Your family would still matter. Your character would still matter.
05:11And the way you treated people would definitely matter. The moments when you stopped long enough to
05:20listen, encourage somebody, forgive somebody, hug somebody, or simply sit quietly with God would still
05:29matter. A lot of things that feel enormous today will someday be little more than something we barely
05:38remember. That can be uncomfortable to admit. But I think it can also be very freeing. You see,
05:47you don't have to carry everything as though everything has the same weight. Some things can wait.
05:55Some things can be imperfect. Some people can be disappointed. Some opportunities can pass.
06:03And your life can still be good. In fact, sometimes, protecting what matters most requires being
06:13willing to disappoint what matters less. I think we also have to be careful about believing that
06:21rest means we're falling behind. The world loves emotion. It celebrates speed. It tells us that if
06:31we're not constantly moving, producing, responding, posting, building, fixing, and achieving, somebody else
06:40is getting ahead of us. But God never asked us to turn our lives into one endless race. Psalm 46
06:50says, Be still, and know that I am God. Now, there's something powerful about that, in my opinion.
07:01Be still. Not because everything is finished. Not because there is nothing left to do. And not because
07:10everyone is satisfied with you. Be still, because God is still God, even while something remains
07:19unfinished. And that's a lesson that I need to trust me. Sometimes I have to remind myself that the world
07:27will keep moving if I stop for a minute. The inbox will survive. The project, well, that'll survive too.
07:35You know, most problems can survive another hour. But moments with people, well, they do not always come
07:44back. Seasons of life do not wait around for us to finally notice them. Children grow up. Parents get
07:55older. Friends move away. Opportunities to say, I love you or I appreciate you can disappear before we
08:06realize we're postponing something that mattered. And I'm not saying that has to make this heavy. And I'm not
08:14saying it because recognizing that life is temporary can actually make life more beautiful.
08:22You start noticing things again, though. You enjoy the conversation instead of thinking about the next
08:30one. You appreciate the meal. You notice the sunset. You thank God for a normal day.
08:38You stop treating ordinary moments as though they are just a hallway between important events.
08:46Sometimes the ordinary moment is the important moment. Maybe today your life feels crowded.
08:56Maybe your schedule changes without your permission. Maybe people are pulling you in five different
09:03directions. Maybe you are carrying responsibilities nobody else completely understands. You don't have to solve
09:14all of that today. But you can remember what deserves the best part of you. Yes, you can remember what
09:27deserves the best part of you. Give God more than the leftovers of your attention. Give the people you love
09:37more than whatever energy remains after everything else has taken its share. Give yourself permission to breathe
09:47breathe without feeling guilty about it. And when the outside world starts creeping into every corner of your life,
09:57remind yourself that you still get to decide what lives in the center. Let God be there. Let love be
10:06there.
10:06Let gratitude be there. And let peace be there. The world can have some of your time.
10:15Your work can have some of your energy. Your responsibilities deserve your effort.
10:22But they do not deserve everything. There is more to you than what you accomplished today.
10:32Your value is not measured by how many things you checked off a list. God does not love you more
10:39on
10:39the days when you were productive and less on the days when you were tired.
10:45You are not earning your place in his heart by staying busy. So if life has been moving fast lately,
10:54maybe this is your reminder to stop and look around. You might discover that some of the things you have
11:02been
11:02rushing past are the very things you once prayed to have. You might realize that while you were worried about
11:13getting everything done, God was quietly inviting you to be present in the life he has already given you.
11:20Keep working. Keep building. Keep showing up. And keep doing the good things God has placed in front of you.
11:30But do not forget to live while you were doing them. Do not get so busy building a future that
11:38you miss the people
11:40standing beside you today. Do not become so focused on the blessing that you stop thanking God for the one
11:48that is already in your hands. And when life gets loud, come back to what matters. Come back to God.
11:58Come back to love. Come back to gratitude. Come back to the people who know your heart.
12:06Come back to the quiet truths that you do not have to do everything to have a meaningful life.
12:16Sometimes the most faithful thing you can do is simply recognize that the moment you're standing in
12:25right now is worth your attention. And maybe, well, maybe that's the reminder both you and I
12:36needed today. My name is Douglas Vandergraaf, and I believe in Jesus Christ.
12:46God bless every single one of you, every single one, and everyone you love. Bye-bye.
