00:00What we've seen is absolute heroism by Captain Machar,
00:05but it reminds you of another incident, that of Neerja Bhanot,
00:09which of course now has been immortalised in a sense
00:12because we've all seen a film based on her story.
00:15Why are the similarities being drawn between both these incidents?
00:19Neerja Bhanot was a case that dates back to 1986
00:21of a Pan Am flight that was hijacked.
00:24In this case, of course, you have a fly Dubai aircraft
00:27where there was an attack inside the cockpit on the captain,
00:31on the pilot or off the aircraft.
00:33What did Neerja do?
00:34When we refer to this hijacking incident, why is there a similarity?
00:38Because similarly here too, when the hijacking took place,
00:41Neerja stood up to the hijackers.
00:43She took them on.
00:44She faced these armed hijackers, pushed back and saved the lives of countless passengers.
00:50Here in the case of Captain Machar, again, he faced an attacking co-pilot,
00:54wadded him off and opened the door to ensure that others could also stream in
00:58and immediately restrain the attacker pilot.
01:01So both of them faced these armed hijackers head-on
01:06to ensure that passengers were put at risk, going beyond really a call of duty.
01:12Neerja Bhanot at that point also helped passengers escape,
01:15ensured they made it out of the peril, add danger to her own life.
01:19As far as Captain Machar goes, he fought to regain control of the aircraft,
01:23stabbed multiple times, was bleeding, and despite that,
01:26ensured that he could do everything to protect the passengers,
01:30the 174 people who were on board this particular aircraft.
01:34Unfortunately, Neerja didn't make it after that attack.
01:38As far as Captain Machar goes, he is right now being treated in Abu Dhabi.
01:43He is doing okay at this point.
