00:00Oh baby, there it is. Cowboys 37-20. They get the win. We are moving and shaking here in the
00:07post-game show, Miller Lite Field Club.
00:09We do have Brian Schottenheimer talking as we speak at the podium to the media. Jerry Jones has talked.
00:15We will get audio from both of those gentlemen as the post-game show rolls on.
00:19Here's Zach Wolchuk alongside the Super Bowl winning scout, Brian Broaddus.
00:22We've got the Cowboys insider, the man, the myth, the legend himself, the great Bobby Belt standing by with us
00:28as well.
00:29So Broaddus, Bobby, myself, Zach, and of course you. We appreciate you rocking with us on the official post-game
00:34show of your Dallas Cowboys.
00:36We'll get to your calls and texts 877-881-1053 in just a moment.
00:40But Bobby, how are you? What do you think about this Cowboys 1-1 first home victory today?
00:45I am wonderful and what a difference a week makes.
00:49Last week it was very sullen. It was sad. Here I sit down. Y'all are cracking up.
00:54Y'all are having a good time. You're laughing. You're enjoying life.
00:57We are. And it's good to see.
01:00Look, you're always going to be happy with victories, especially coming off of what happened last week.
01:05Doesn't mean it was clean. Doesn't mean that there's not some things to focus on.
01:09But at least offensively you felt like, okay, offense is a little bit back today.
01:13And passing attack is back.
01:15And C.D. Lamb really took advantage of what was a really questionable secondary there for Washington.
01:23I kind of feel like that, Bobby, that we're going to say Dallas' pass rush, not great.
01:29But if Dallas finishes on the pass rush after you watch the tape, there might be a four or five
01:35sack game.
01:36Yeah.
01:36Look, it would have been nice to see him finish up a few different plays.
01:40And that doesn't just, you know, that's not just talking about what's behind the line of scrimmage.
01:44They had some tackles they missed in the open field, too.
01:46They were just not finishing really well as a defense today.
01:49Yeah.
01:49It was obviously not the same sort of situation you ran into with the Giants last week.
01:54Right.
01:55This was a little bit cleaner.
01:56But there were still communication issues, issues with finishing plays.
02:00Defensively there are still questions there.
02:02They're still settling in.
02:03But, you know, I thought at least for me standout defensively is I like seeing the rookies generally I think
02:11played pretty well.
02:12The rookies you're leaning on.
02:13Downs I think played pretty well.
02:15I think Barham played pretty well.
02:17Barham's out here just puking before snaps and still getting things done.
02:21Might have been condition.
02:22We talked about that last week, too, you know.
02:24But it was something where it's not pretty.
02:27It's not perfect.
02:28Washington is going to walk out of here feeling like we had plays we left on the field.
02:32Yeah.
02:32We miss a deep ball where Durant either gets beat or the safety was supposed to take it and didn't.
02:38Whichever one it is.
02:39The double pass.
02:39Something.
02:40The double pass.
02:41I mean, where Antonio Williams, that's free and clear.
02:44So, I mean, you know, Washington is definitely the flub of the play calling at the end of the first
02:48half where Jaden Daniels gets hurt.
02:50Jaden Daniels even getting hurt.
02:52A lot of these things Washington is going to look at and say, well, that's just.
02:54If we do what we're supposed to do, we're in this.
02:57Same thing they could have said they did last week, too.
02:59They did everything right but win the football game against Philadelphia.
03:02Yeah.
03:02And so for Dallas, I think they need to be careful not to just be, like, complacent at, all right,
03:0917-point victory.
03:10Feeling good.
03:10You can feel good about it.
03:11Don't apologize for a victory.
03:13No, never.
03:13But don't make excuses for some things that very well could hurt you against Baltimore next week if you don't
03:20clean them up.
03:20No, 100%.
03:21I mean, you're going up against Lamar Jackson, who's arguably one of the top, if not the best, running quarterback
03:27in all of football.
03:28He has made this Cowboys defense look silly in prior matchups.
03:31And the Techs, I mean, a lot of them very concerned about the defense.
03:358-3-0, if anyone else is playing you, that's probably 60 points that they're going to put up against
03:39the defense.
03:40So, I mean, we're.
03:41Are they talking about running the ball?
03:43Just in general.
03:44Just the way that the defense played with some of the secondary mistakes that they made.
03:48You had some open receivers that Washington didn't hit and then not being able to, of course, get the quarterback
03:52or the ball carrier on the ground.
03:53That's the thing that I was the biggest concern for me was the fact that you had the opportunity with
03:58pressures and you couldn't finish is what you do.
04:02So, I'll tell you what, I just, I feel like, though, to me, that they were in a situation today
04:08where they needed to, you know,
04:11if they, in fact, take those pressures and finish.
04:16And you talk about the open field tackle and stuff like that.
04:19I totally agree on that.
04:21But I felt like there was the running.
04:25Particularly the second half, it felt like there were opportunities.
04:28The run defense is my concern.
04:29Yeah, and specifically the trenches.
04:31What's happening in the middle.
04:33Yeah, the trenches.
04:33You're not getting enough movement on either side in the run game.
04:37Not at all.
04:37You are not imposing any sort of will with the defensive front, which was supposed to be the thing you
04:42felt really great about was Quinton and Kenny Clark.
04:44And first play of the game, or second play of the game, Quinton Williams makes a nice play in the
04:48run game to kind of beat a double team.
04:50But you're not getting enough push up front in the run game when it comes to your defense.
04:54And then on the offensive line side, you're not getting enough push.
04:56They couldn't run the ball today.
04:58They were having real problems with that.
05:00And that's going to be a frustrating thing for them this season if they're not able to consistently gain on
05:07the ground.
05:07You need Tyler Smith back right now.
05:09The running game needs Tyler Smith back.
05:11And I'll tell you, sorry, Zach, the guy who needs Tyler Smith back right now is Cooper Beebe in a
05:15bad way.
05:16Yeah.
05:17And Cooper Beebe gave up a big pressure today, certainly, that you could tell.
05:21I mean, some of these, and then there were a few plays, Terrence Steele, I think, held up initially.
05:26And then you saw a rush go wide, and then Dak's trying to step up, and pressure comes from the
05:31backside against him.
05:32But, yeah, I mean, Tyler Smith, there's a reason why he's one of the best, if not the best, guards
05:36in all of football.
05:37You certainly are going to miss that guy.
05:38I did think it was interesting, and thank you very much, Bobby.
05:40Sumer Sports here, an incredible resource for information.
05:43Big friends of 105 through the fan there.
05:45Oh, we love them.
05:46But Quinton Williams, four impact plays.
05:48Yes, so I know that there's been a lot of texts coming in, like, asking about Quinton Williams, the impact
05:53he was going to be able to make.
05:54All of those were in the first half, I believe, by the way, too.
05:57And I did notice Quinton, it might have been two separate occasions, did come out of the football game.
06:01Got banged up.
06:02He had one where he was really slow in the red zone to get up.
06:05And I think that was the second drive where he kind of hit the ground chasing Jaden Daniels,
06:10and he kind of just stood there and braced himself for a second, then he got up and he came
06:13out.
06:14And so, yeah, I wonder if maybe he got a little banged up.
06:17But I'm sure he would tell you, I was still out there.
06:20If I'm out there, I need to be making plays.
06:21I don't think he'd make excuses for it.
06:24But hopefully, you know, looking back at the tape, he'll look at it and say he played better than hopefully
06:28it looked like live,
06:29because that's concerning if you're not going to get consistently good play out of it.
06:32Special.
06:32Go for it.
06:33Yeah, I just go ahead.
06:34You were going to talk about special teams.
06:36Well, I just want to bring up special teams because that's been.
06:38Turpin looked like he was old Turpin.
06:40Like he saw the commander helmet.
06:41Field position.
06:42And started playing like he was old Turpin.
06:44That's actually a great point because he has played really well in his big touchdown.
06:47It was against the commanders.
06:48But how about Brevin Spanford?
06:49Yeah.
06:50A couple tackles.
06:51Maybe he needs to play defensive tackle for you.
06:53Get him up front.
06:54Get him playing with that length and see if he can attack a little bit.
06:57But, no, a couple big plays on special teams.
06:59That was huge for them.
07:01They've not been able to get that same sort of physicality from their tight ends just in the blocking right
07:05now.
07:05That's what I was going to ask you, Bobby.
07:06Is some of the run issues.
07:08It's not a temperament thing, I guess, with Brevin Spanford.
07:10No, but just the point of attack blocking in general has not been where it needs to be.
07:18It seems like, to me, they want to run the ball, but then they're like, nah, we've got Lamb, we've
07:24got Pickens, we've got Ferguson.
07:26We're okay.
07:27It's not a nasty run game.
07:29There's nothing nasty about their run game right now.
07:33And they feel very much like a finesse football team on both sides of the ball.
07:38And that's fine.
07:40You can win that way if that's the way you're built.
07:42But they would tell you that's not how they want to play.
07:45So that's the troubling thing.
07:46If you want to play finesse, cool, if that's the philosophy.
07:50But when you're trying to tell us you want to be a physical team that imposes your will and then
07:53you're out here and you can't do that, that's a concern.
07:56Well, it's also, yeah, I mean, you're right.
07:57It's the polar opposite of what they've been trying to build.
08:00And when we've seen Cowboy teams, like let's say, I'm not going to mention who the head coach was, but
08:05when you have three straight 12-win seasons, then you lose in the postseason.
08:08I think a lot of the knock was they were finesse.
08:12And they got played up against more physical teams, specifically San Francisco, and they weren't as good.
08:17Yeah, the Laura Oakman team struggled with some physicality there.
08:21And so I understand that.
08:23And you wanted to improve that.
08:26And, look, there was a year, a couple years ago, 22, I think when they drafted Tyler Smith, the entire
08:31thrust of the draft was get physical football players.
08:33They wanted mean players.
08:34They felt like they got beat up.
08:36Yeah, they wanted mean players.
08:38And you may just be at a point right now where it's like, hey, we maybe need to look at
08:42this again.
08:43I remember I asked Dan Quinn this once of physicality and toughness.
08:48How much of that can you coach versus you have to find the trait and acquire it?
08:53And Dan Quinn said, I usually feel like I can get one extra level out of you as a coach.
08:57So if you're a six as a physical player, I can maybe get you to a seven.
09:00If you're a three, I can get you to a four.
09:02But that's it.
09:04That's it.
09:04That's the extent that I can do.
09:06That's the extent that I can get you there.
09:07What did you guys think of Dee Winters?
09:09Without going back and watching the all 22, I felt like he was flying around.
09:13He was all over the field.
09:14Yeah, he was definitely out there.
09:17Motor was running hot, was flying around the football.
09:19There were a couple of different times I remember thinking missed something,
09:23whether it be a tackle or maybe took it too aggressive.
09:26Nothing stands out as like super aggressive.
09:28But I know in my head sitting here thinking,
09:30I remember there were a couple times where I spot him.
09:31But overall, linebacker play, I'm guessing when we look at it,
09:35will look much better than it did last week.
09:38Not only because of winners, but because you felt like Jayshon Barham
09:41played really well today for the most part.
09:43Absolutely.
09:44Dee Winters, your leading tackler with nine.
09:46And then you had Caleb Downs and Jayshon Barham tied for seven.
09:50Overall, the health of this football team heading into Brazil,
09:53were you able to get anything during your visit?
09:56Still don't have a great sense of the guys that left the game, Durant and Locke.
10:00And Durant's the one that troubles me the most
10:03because Durant is the guy who consistently played really well during training camp.
10:08And then last week did not look –
10:09he was one of the few guys who didn't look just totally lost defensively last week.
10:12And when Rebel came in, Washington said, there we go, go after him.
10:16They were going after him.
10:17There was no question about that.
10:18He didn't get his head turned around on one of the deep balls.
10:21You know, it's just – it's still not perfect with Savone Rebel.
10:25We need to check on Locke.
10:26That foot injury, he could not put any pressure.
10:29And that was – when you watched him come off the field,
10:32you're thinking foot injury, those are never good for a guy that makes his living
10:37having to play on his feet, have to be able to run, attack, and things like that.
10:42That's probably one that's not going to be the old mid-foot sprain.
10:46I'm just –
10:47Just, yeah, something that in general does not –
10:48Something where you're just kind of like going –
10:50Because we were sitting there trying to figure out who it was.
10:51He just could not move.
10:52He could not get up.
10:53We couldn't even see who was down on the ground.
10:54He could not move.
