00:00This is the perfect row for me because I can chat with the people in the back and I can
00:05also yell at the driver.
00:06While we were playing it was so hot it melted, fell and the whole screen was busted.
00:37What's up Bus Invaders? My name's Holden. I'm Christian. We're from the band Modern Alibi and we are currently on
00:43the Catch My Signal tour to promote our debut record American Radio and future new music. Come see our van.
00:52So this is how we get around. That's Josh right there in the driver's seat. And yeah so me and
01:01Christian are the only ones who've driven so far because we're the only insured ones and Chicago's very loud.
01:08But yeah so we're jamming in the car all the time. We do a lot of Spotify jams and we
01:14kind of switch off DJs.
01:16Yeah so music wise on tour pretty much anything goes. I mean we're all influenced by different things. Holden and
01:22I love 21 Pilots. There's been a lot of that.
01:26And then like I don't know we play a lot of meme music to wake up the driver in case
01:33they're falling asleep. And yeah pretty much anything.
01:37So I mean I'd just be queuing up a bunch of stuff that these guys have never heard before so
01:41I kind of like introduce them to a lot of niche music.
01:44I've been listening to small artists named Harrison Bortz right now. I've been listening to the new Niall Horan album.
01:50So stuff like that.
01:52Yeah one really cool thing about this tour is we have a lot of local opening bands for our shows.
01:59And a lot of them have just started releasing music. So we'll play a show and then we'll jam to
02:05their music and go into the next city.
02:07Pretty sick.
02:08Shout out the band Light from Nashville Tennessee.
02:11Oh yeah. New song Mona Lisa is a banger.
02:14It's a banger. Absolutely.
02:16So Josh is in the driver's seat currently but he's actually never driven the bus because me and Christian are
02:22the only ones who are insured.
02:24But I'm sure Josh would do a lovely job driving.
02:28We might cut down the driving time in half because sometimes he's got a heavy foot.
02:36But no. We get there safely hopefully.
02:39But for the most part we split the driving. We also have some amazing crew that we're on tour with.
02:45Holden's dad Bart is a legend and has helped us a lot with the driving.
02:49And he's not here right now but he is a big part of it.
02:53Oh yes. Couldn't do it without him.
02:55So yeah. So this is an inside on just the random stuff in our van.
03:00We have lots of Kit Kat wrappers.
03:05We thought we cleaned before this interview but clearly we didn't.
03:09Roasted almonds from Chick-fil-A.
03:11So this is clearly what we didn't want out of our Chick-fil-A order.
03:15But we do a lot of Chick-fil-A eating.
03:17A lot of Chick-fil-A on tour.
03:19Lots of Chick-fil-A.
03:20Yes. We're big Chick-fil-A dudes.
03:23Let's see what we got here.
03:24This is our Power Bank Essential.
03:26Typically we have like a little mini fridge right here.
03:29And it's just filled with a bunch of snacks and drinks to keep us going on the road.
03:34And charge our phones because we do a lot of doom scrolling in the van when we're not talking to
03:39each other.
03:40We got some sunglasses.
03:42You see these block the sun.
03:44And we use these on the road when the sun is shining bright.
03:47These actually aren't even ours.
03:49I think that these are my cousins that we played a show in Dallas, Texas.
03:52And yeah, I didn't steal them.
03:55I promise. They were left.
03:56I need to get them back to you.
03:57So if Lane, you're watching this, I have your sunglasses.
04:01Let's see what else we got.
04:03I got a dollar bill.
04:04Because up north there's a lot of tolls and some of them only take cash.
04:09This is actually how much money we're making on tour.
04:11It's right here.
04:12These two dollars so far.
04:15Yeah, we're making bank for sure.
04:18We used to have this really nice TV in the back that we Velcroed so that we could plug our
04:23switch in
04:24and play games when we weren't jamming to music and talking.
04:27But the heat kind of made the Velcro, the stick, just completely fell off.
04:33And there's a broken TV.
04:36So yeah, we got the switch going.
04:39We got all sorts of stuff.
04:40We used it one time on tour.
04:42We used it one time.
04:44And then we played.
04:44We got one good game of Mario Kart in.
04:45Yeah, we played Let's Go Festival in Maryland.
04:48And while we were playing, it was so hot, it melted, fell, and the whole screen was busted.
04:53Welcome to our second row of our Sprinter van.
04:57So in the second row, we have our Nolan that we take on tour with us.
05:02He operates the camera and he takes pics every show and video.
05:07And this is where all the editing happens.
05:10And he's taking, here we go, pose.
05:13With Josh.
05:14Beautiful.
05:14Okay, so yeah, so this is typically where he sits.
05:19Sometimes Christian is sitting here.
05:22And yeah, this is where he keeps all of his gear.
05:24All right, so normally I'm in my little hole right here because I usually have my camera
05:28equipment set up right here.
05:29And I just work, actually working right now from our show last night here in Chicago.
05:37So sit here, edit pictures.
05:40And this is where we normally play our music.
05:42All right, so this is my row.
05:44And this is the perfect row for me because I can chat with the people in the back and I
05:49can also yell at the driver.
05:51Um, but most importantly, when Nolan's editing his pictures, I like to, I like to be right
05:58behind him and I can see everything he's doing.
06:01It's a little terrifying sometimes.
06:03And, and when he's not working.
06:04Get back to work.
06:06I can, I can just whisper, Nolan, are the pictures done yet?
06:11And they're, and they're never done.
06:14So, yeah, that's, uh, that's pretty much my row.
06:16Let's see, let's see what we got down here.
06:18Let's see.
06:18This is our, is this trash?
06:22Yeah, it's not in a snack bag.
06:24No, no, no, it's a snack bag.
06:25Okay, we got some.
06:26So, okay.
06:27Yes.
06:27The spot on tour is Buc-ee's.
06:30There's no greater stop.
06:32When we see a sign or a billboard for Buc-ee's, we lose it.
06:36Absolutely lose it because we are such a fan.
06:39So, so right here we have the sweet and spicy beef jerky.
06:42We cannot pass this up.
06:43We literally have so many of these.
06:45It's crazy.
06:46It might be all that's, that's in here mostly.
06:49Um, yeah.
06:51So what do we got right here?
06:52Oh, those are, this looks like a Carter purchase.
06:55Uh, we need to introduce you to Carter Ritz, our guitar player back here.
06:59What's up, guys?
07:00And, uh, why don't, why don't you talk a little bit about your, your tour diet?
07:05Okay, so in the van specifically, I'm known as the sweet tooth.
07:09So, uh, but I like to try a lot of different things.
07:13So, uh, I will never get the same thing twice in the van.
07:16So this is just what we have today.
07:19Um, just some berry clouds, I guess.
07:22Um, these are fire.
07:24But, no, uh, this row and the very back are where we keep all the snacks.
07:29And, uh, I build quite the collection of different candy wrappers.
07:35Oh, this, this, this might be mine.
07:37So, yeah, I, uh, so I'm, I'm a big fan of seaweed, like teriyaki seaweed.
07:43And, um, it's, it's kind of boring, but I, I like it.
07:46And, uh, it's, uh, it's really good for the vocals, um, on tour.
07:50Um, and, uh, so I make sure to, to have a, have a pack of these before, for the show.
07:55It's not really good for the vocals.
07:57I just decided, decided to say that because there's really no reason for just eating seaweed.
08:01But, uh, I enjoy it.
08:03Let's see, what else we got in here?
08:05Uh, we got some, some vitamins to stay healthy.
08:09Yeah.
08:09On tour.
08:10So this tour, we've all individually gotten sick at different times.
08:13And, uh, I'm pretty sure I got everybody sick.
08:16Um, but, uh, I was first.
08:18And when I get sick, I lose my voice, which is stressful.
08:20But, uh, so I, I passed it off to everybody else.
08:23And, uh, yeah, in these three weeks, I'm pretty sure it got everybody.
08:26But, uh, vitamins, stay healthy.
08:29Um.
08:30Thank you for getting us sick.
08:32It, it meant a lot to me.
08:33It's, it's the least I could do.
08:35Okay, so I'm normally in here.
08:38Um, there's normally a lot more bags while we're traveling.
08:42And Josh is usually in this back seat right here.
08:44I'm kind of lonely right now.
08:46But, um, yeah, so back here, we got even more snack bags.
08:51We got some fruit snacks.
08:53We got our little, you know, paper towels to clean with.
08:57Essentials.
08:58Yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:59So we got some cans of soup, some stuff back here for the hotels.
09:04And then we got the, the comfies back here.
09:07We got a little bit of, uh, some blankets, some pillow action.
09:11You know, we love Mario Kart, so we had to bring the, the Mario shell.
09:16Um, and yeah, this is normally just the hole of the van where everything goes.
09:22Um, we got a big trash bag right here and some luggage.
09:27Holden brought his, his suitcase where we all have our backpacks and suitcases.
09:32And I throw it back there so I don't have to deal with it.
09:35Yeah, normally it's on.
09:37Nice.
09:38Normally I'm a little more cramped back here.
09:41But no, this is where, uh, all the show clothes and stuff, the important stuff goes.
09:46And, uh, this, this is where most of the snacks go.
09:50All right.
09:50So this is the saddest part of the episode.
09:53And, uh, I don't, I don't mean to bring the mood down or anything.
09:56I know this is a fun show.
09:57But, uh, so at the beginning of the tour, we, um, we, uh, wanted a TV to, uh, play Mario
10:04Kart,
10:05to, to watch YouTube.
10:06And, uh, so we all went 20 bucks in on a Target TV and, uh, this was the obvious spot
10:12for it because everybody could look back at it and everybody could, you know, from all
10:17angles, you could see it and it's perfect.
10:19And, uh, the, uh, I guess the, the, the engineering thoughts that I, that I had to, uh, to keep
10:26it up there because there's no way to attach it is to Velcro it.
10:29Right.
10:30And, uh, so at the beginning of tour, we just Velcroed the absolute crap out of this thing
10:35to the back and it really seemed to work.
10:38It really did.
10:39We all had faith in it.
10:40And, um, for the first, for the first car ride, it stayed up.
10:45I had Josh check it.
10:46I kept telling him, dude, just like, like nudge it every once in a while.
10:50And he's like, dude, it's on there.
10:51It's on.
10:51So I had trust in this thing.
10:53I had trust in the Velcro until, until the let's go festival in, uh, in Maryland, it
11:03got very hot.
11:04It was, the sun was out and we played our show, kicked off the first show of tour.
11:08It was, it was a great show.
11:09We get back in the van, high-fiving, just like that.
11:14And, uh, TV was on the ground and that was it.
11:17That was it for the TV.
11:18This has been our digital tour bus episode, Bus Invaders.
11:22We're Modern Alibi here in Chicago.
11:24And, uh, yeah, thanks for watching.
11:26Uh, look out for this new, uh, for some new music.
11:29Uh, listen to our debut record, American Radio.
11:32We have two songs out after that, two singles called The Big Fuss and Roulette.
11:37And, uh, an album coming out sometime soon.
11:40Hey, you got that.
11:42It's alright.
11:42It's good.
11:44Thanks for watching.
11:46We'll see you next time.
11:47Bye.
11:51Bye.
11:57Bye.
12:02Bye.
12:06Bye.
12:09Bye.
12:09Bye.
12:09Bye.
12:11Bye.
12:11Bye.
12:12Bye.
