00:00Todd Munkin answering questions uh this weekend that uh you know we already knew that Shador
00:06Sanders and Talon Green were splitting uh kind of the the scout team the scout team reps well
00:11a new wrinkle here is that Todd Munkin is not ruling out that Talon Green could be the backup
00:17quarterback on Sunday we're going to play some of this sound uh throughout the show we're probably
00:22don't have time for right now but it's interesting I didn't have an immediate visceral reaction
00:28this is something that I think is a massive risk I understand what what Munkin and the
00:34Browns would be thinking here is that if you can get Talon Green on the play on the field for
00:39five
00:39to seven plays and one of those turns into a touchdown that is worth having a guy that had
00:46about 10 snaps in with in practice with the with the ones that would be worth the risk of having
00:52him as your backup I just don't know it's worth the risk I'll believe it when I see it is
00:57where
00:57I'm at on this one I don't believe that it's actually going to happen I don't think they're
01:00going to carry three quarterbacks and so if we believe that they're just taking two quarterbacks
01:04then I don't know how you could possibly start an NFL game with Talon Green as your backup quarterback
01:08like like the the idea that it's a Sean Watson who has been criminally injured throughout the time
01:12that he's been with the Browns you would just I mean if he gets injured on play two that game
01:16is sunk
01:17that game's done it's over blouses I mean send it to the post game show you can't operate an NFL
01:22team with that being the mentality yeah you also so to to give to what you're saying I do think
01:28there's an there's a chance that this is gamesmanship from Todd Munkin that I think what is fresh in
01:33people's mind if you've watched the Browns preseason tape is that Talon Green looked like an NFL
01:38athlete he didn't necessarily look like an NFL quarterback in the preseason but he looked like
01:42an NFL athlete that could give defenses a real problem I can understand if he thinks hey let's put
01:49some tangible fear into to Jacksonville's defensive coordinator's head and just make him prepare for
01:54one more thing that's all it is just make him prepare for one more thing it feels very college
01:58football ask for being truthful about it which is fine Munkin has a lot of history in college football
02:02with winning national titles at Georgia I just I there's no conceivable way that if they only go with
02:08two quarterbacks active and don't go with three now again we talk about if they go with three and it
02:13just keeps everybody on play and it is what it is but if they go with two I would be
02:17shocked beyond
02:18shocked if your plan is if Deshaun gets injured Talon Green's gonna come in the game and save the
02:22day yeah this feels like one where if it works out in the pot the Browns do tend to back
02:26themselves
02:26into these corners I mean even the Deshaun Watson thing is the biggest example of this but hey if
02:31this works out people are really gonna respect what you do and they're gonna think you're soothsayers
02:36and future seeers and if it doesn't work out oh a pox on you and people are gonna be really
02:41upset
02:41like the Deshaun thing in itself is that thing but like all right Deshaun stays healthy he plays
02:47reasonably well and Talon Green gets one touchdown people are proclaiming Todd Munkin to be an absolute
02:53genius uh next Monday but it's the Browns and if if Deshaun Watson if you've pointed out if he gets
03:01hurt two plays in and Talon Green gets exposed for a guy who's not ready to be an NFL passer
03:08that is
03:09also where you lose an incredible amount of trust not just you'd be torched not but here's the thing
03:14not just with fans oh by the players I think in the locker room as well you'd be torched that
03:18is
03:18brain dead thinking to believe that you could just rely on Green in that spot uh for the next 60
03:23plays offensively to make this whole thing hum like you would be you'd be ending the game the
03:28moment that injury happens and I just think that would be a grave grave mistake by Todd Munkin I also
03:33think like if you want to have Talon up for the game you just have to find that case somewhere
03:39else you do if it was any if this was Pat Mahomes you well Mahomes is the bad case because
03:45he's
03:45coming off the the knee injury if this was Josh Allen you and I don't have a problem with Talon
03:50Green being the backup because the likelihood that Talon Green would see the the field
03:54is nil Deshaun Watson's honestly he like stubs his toe and somehow tears his Achilles
04:00all he's never done in a Browns uniform is get injured isn't the expectation people have he's
04:04either going to be bad or he's going to be injured but he'll be one of them by week 10
04:07well and here's the other thing and I'm glad you mentioned the expectation of Deshaun being bad
04:11you can't guarantee me that Deshaun won't need benching in this game the last time I saw Deshaun
04:20Watson he had the meltdown on the field against third and fourth truck drivers for the guys who
04:26right now are like signing to signing on to do like data entry jobs that's the kind of guys that
04:33completely turned him into a a cheap facsimile of the worst version of himself in Cleveland by the
04:40way not even a good version of himself and then went out and took a torchlight to Browns fans so
04:45you can't even tell me that there isn't a healthy chance 10 15 chance that Deshaun won't even be able
04:52to make it past halftime in this game well I mean I'd be surprised it does feel like even if
04:56he looks
04:56like he did in the preseason game they're just gonna they're gonna let him basically bury himself
05:00uh but within that there is that idea that Deshaun himself might turn around at halftime and be like
05:06uh oh geez this isn't going very well I need this I need an escape plan I need to figure
05:10something out
05:11uh oh my hamstring my hamstring guys it's acting up all of a sudden you need someone then in the
05:15third quarter and it's Taylin Green is your answer it just seems it seems crazy to me so so most
05:21of
05:21most of the logic part of my brain goes well this has to be like a game they it's the
05:27only thing that
05:27makes sense he's just trying to make them study up and do more things with Green right but the
05:31Browns have just had such a history of having I mean a massive set to do whatever they want no
05:39matter the logic involved and then explain the you know logic as if we're the idiots for not seeing
05:45through it sometimes Nick you tell me in discussions you'll be like I think you just thought that one a
05:48little bit too much and I'm guilty of that I'll just sometimes I'll I'll take things further than I
05:52need to and I'll I'll just think a little bit too much on on what needs to happen in this
05:56scenario it
05:56seems like the Browns thought a little bit too much of how they wanted to do this but I'm sure
06:00it'll work out for them just it just seems like like sound it out just make it make it make
06:05sense
06:05to anybody listening out there Green a rookie is going to go ahead and be the guy that if you're
06:10taking in the sixth round is going to be the guy that's going to come in place for Deshaun Watson
06:14if all of a sudden he has an injury and you feel everyone feels really good about that no the
06:18game
06:19is over the the moment that Deshaun Watson would have an injury and you might as well just ship it
06:23to
06:24the postgame show like you cannot possibly rely on that as logical thinking and you can't start
06:29Deshaun under the guise of it gives us the best chance to win and then have Shador not be the
06:36backup Deshaun needs a parachute yes he is the type of quarterback that needs a parachute he's the type
06:41of guy that you need to make sure uh that you got a checks and balance system set up and
06:45everything's
06:45all fine he's giving you no reason to believe that he's starting that thing and playing all 60.
06:50I understand the risk versus reward at the idea but if they're seriously thinking about it
06:54I don't think the reward is worth the risk again I'm not I'm not against the kid being on the
06:58roster
06:59I am against him as the backup because and it really is as much as and I think this is
07:05where
07:05you and I differ I think you and I are in simpatico that the idea of Deshaun getting injured in
07:11this
07:11game is on the table the burden of proof for Deshaun to stay healthy is on Deshaun and it is
07:17on the
07:17Browns I really am thinking if he goes out there and he craters he being Deshaun Watson if Todd
07:25Munkett's really about winning you better have a a decent backup bullet to fire in this case and
07:32that has to be Shador because Shador was the other guy in the quarterback competition not
07:35Taylor Green did I miss the part where we differed I thought just from the fact that I think
07:41benching Deshaun has to be on the table for Sunday oh okay if it gets incredibly ugly yeah I think
07:47they're going to make him eat it that way I think if like if he stinks they're just going to
07:50make
07:50them they're going to stick his head in the mud and they're just going to say you put yourself in
07:54this filth now enjoy it essentially I don't think that they're going to give him the extra for that
07:57yeah I don't think they're going to give him the escape hatch that way I really do I I'd be
08:01surprised by that but it's more about injury for myself then uh but it's also that just the idea
08:06you have to have a backup plan and your backup plan cannot be a rookie quarterback that you didn't
08:11really trust throughout any of this process I also think I think it puts Talon in a really tough
08:16position an incredibly tough position um it sets him up to fail yeah I mean listen he's kind of got
08:21this sweet spot right now where nobody has any expectations for him but Browns fans are enthralled
08:27with the upside of him I you can you can do the package play thing which they should do by
08:33the way
08:34they should when you have the offense built the way it is you're going to need every playmaker out
08:39there possible I look at Talon Green as like tight end four I look at him as like wide receiver
08:45seven
08:45or running back four much more than I do QB two right now and I think if you put him
08:51in QB two
08:52the expectations will be unfair to him and that and and honestly I think he'll also get a little
08:58of the blame of Deshaun I just don't want that for that kid how bad will look if Munkin just
09:02decides he
09:03wants three active quarterbacks on game day I mean the Saints did it for a million years obviously with
09:07Taysom Hill I went and I was checking around like last year I know the Seahawks did it with Jalen
09:11Milrow for like three out of the first four weeks they had him because they wanted him with certain
09:15packages is that the worst look I'm not in favor of it by the way but is that the worst
09:19look to you
09:19if Munkin goes a little rogue here and has three active quarterbacks in order to get Talon in there
09:24no no not at least you're setting yourself up in a better way that way yeah and listen I you
09:28you
09:29probably should have three quarterbacks for everything that I just said about Deshaun because if
09:35Deshaun has to be sat in a game or if Deshaun gets injured in the game you're gonna need a
09:39you know a decent backup for Shador as well the unofficial depth chart is out by the way
09:43uh Shador is listed as QB2 Talon Green is listed as QB3 we'll see uh where that might lead us
