RECORD SETTING! Christian Gonzalez and the Patriots reportedly agree to a 4-year, $135 million extension. How much guaranteed?
Thoughts? INSTANT REACTION to the deal? Now, onto Drake Maye's contract...
What took so long? What was the STICKING POINT in the negotiations between Patriots/Gonzo? Was it the money at signing? Compromise?
Do you believe Robert Kraft stepped in?

00:00Christian Gonzalez extension complete and that is 135 million dollars total
00:09102 guaranteed wiggy that's all that finally we got the deal done yes I I guess I want to ask
00:20what
00:20took so long I mean I you're a million bucks over the guaranteed money for Witherspoon right what is
00:26that what you were fighting about for for the last three it sounds like the Patriots came up 10
00:31million dollars in the final moments yeah as they should yeah like that's crazy once I saw it was
00:37102 million guaranteed it's like wait so what like so you're telling me Christian wasn't asking for
00:42110 million dollars where'd the escalator go yeah so they only wanted initially wanted to give them
00:49like that one report when it was the 90 yeah the 92 million or something well I who knows I
00:54mean
00:54either uh one side came up or the other side right it came down it got done that's the most
01:01important thing so you know now we could breathe a little bit and now we got Gonzo ready to go
01:05week
01:06one right and we'll cross the contract bridge next summer well it's sports radio so now we can start
01:11to panic about Drake May and his deal yeah and and when that when that will be done but I'm
01:17just glad
01:18that got done because I don't think that's a deal that gets done in years past like they are they
01:24set
01:25the market this is the first time they've ever done that really well it was interesting to me that over
01:30the weekend Andrew Callahan was reporting that Christian Gonzalez and his camp uh were frustrated
01:39with Matt Groh because Matt Groh was doing the they basically empower macro and I guess there were some
01:46that's that were saying this the way the Patriots do it all the time but they empower him to do
01:50the
01:50negotiation and nobody can ever talk to Robert Kraft or nobody can ever talk to Elliot Wolfe so I'm
01:57assuming that somebody at some point over the weekend stepped in really and and and that got it done
02:03yeah I saw that was interesting so he's like you know I gotta run it up the chain to see
02:07what happens
02:08he's like sorry can't get an answer it's Labor Day weekend I mean you know how hard how hard is
02:13to get a
02:13hold anybody at Labor Day weekend so yeah but that's great I you know what it's done and we can
02:19put to bed all the questions about how Mike Rabel feels about the player and and uh and all of
02:25all of
02:26those things so I was shocked when I saw it I because I was really leaning towards like it's not
02:31going to
02:31get done based off of the like reports over the weekend morning shine morning Greg uh I mean I think
02:37this is a lead that is dedicated towards coach Wiggins because I think all along there's been
02:42one person that's been dead on accurate about this entire Christian Gonzalez contract situation
02:46and that was Jermaine Wiggins whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa somebody not so long ago on this show said they
02:53were just uh dotting the i's and crossing the t's oh yeah that's right and where's your where's your
02:58victory no I mean I just I just sit back and let people remember thank you for bringing it up
03:04so I
03:04didn't have to thank you only took about four weeks from the bomb it's okay what did it what is
03:08it uh never wrong just early yeah yeah I may be just late in this point no I was early
03:15oh okay
03:16I think what we're gonna find out over the next day two couple of days whatever when the full details
03:22of the contract comes out is the sticking point in this negotiation was how much money Christian
03:27Gonzalez was gonna get when he signed the actual contract because I think the two numbers that were
03:32released in the statement that they said that he signed with the Patriots were exactly where both
03:37parties were at and the difference was is the Patriots saw the large jump from Trent McDuffie
03:42getting 50 million dollars at signing to it being 59 million dollars at signing for Devin Witherspoon
03:47and that was the 10 million dollar difference they were a part on the Patriots were willing to go to
03:5251
03:53to just surpass McDuffie Gonzalez wanted to surpass Witherspoon they're like no we're not gonna make such a
04:00drastic 10 million dollar jump just because one team did that and I think that was the sticking
04:04point all along it was the finer details as Devin McCourty pointed out Jermaine Wiggins once again
04:10right all along and that to me I would assume when the contract details come out it'll probably be
04:17in that 55 million dollars guaranteed at signing range they split the baby and called it a day yeah
04:22yeah and and we would like there was so many things and I know you had talked about the escalator
04:27and
04:27I'm like you know players ask for a lot of stuff and you're like all right you know but why
04:32would
04:32you do that when quarterbacks don't do that and then you know and the report came out that Shime
04:36had other the 10 million dollars off but when the framework framework is laid out unless it's really
04:43like pulling teeth because you as an organization are like so greedy and don't want to do this because
04:52you've never done it before I think that becomes the issue because everybody knows once we saw the
04:56witherspoon we're like all right we know what the deal is and then you're like oh so are we guessing
05:02that Robert Kraft stepped in here if if we believe that macro was handling the negotiations
05:09and Robert Kraft stepped in and said let's just get let's do it let's just give him the money
05:14and let's be ready to to rock and roll and in Seattle it's almost like Robert Kraft has control
05:21of the football in the ways he didn't in the past and they spent a lot of money or he's
05:25just a he's
05:26he's changed the way he does things like Robert Kraft has grown and changed and is doing business
05:32as business is being done like I think moving forward we can't call Kraft cheap like we could
05:37call him cheap in the past but what the deal that he just did change that changes things and I
05:42don't
05:42think that it whatever Robert Kraft did here does not change whatever was going on back in the day
05:47with Bill Belichick I don't think that you can tie the two together but we were tying those two
05:51together people were saying that look nothing's changed Kraft has been here they've always been
05:56cheap why did you blame Belichick well since 23 they have spent a lot more money and he is no
06:02longer
06:02here so you could say that Robert Kraft did not have the same power over football spending that he does
06:08now I would say like see the thing when you look at the Gonzalez deal I think and even whether
06:13it's when
06:14Bill was here it's about the superstar players the elite talent not the guys that like the Romeo
06:22Dobbs contract not those guys it's the guys that are either at the top of the market setting the
06:28market and you start to go like all right have they paid those guys in the past or had those
06:33guys
06:34really had to fight for it so when you start to look at it they obviously paid Steph Gilmore
06:39free agent who but I'm saying I'm not I don't care if he's a free agent I don't care if
06:44he's part of
06:44their team I'm talking about the elite talent so when you start to look at the elite talent that you've
06:50had you start to go other than Rob Gronkowski
07:16you
