00:01Matt Canavan is very much standing by these comments, these claims he's made this week
00:07around the so-called feminisation of the school curriculum in Australia.
00:12He says this is driving men towards the so-called manosphere content online and on social media.
00:19The Australian Education Union, they came out late yesterday and very much criticised
00:25Senator Canavan for these comments.
00:26They also criticised opposition leader Angus Taylor, who has been suggesting that teachers
00:33have been pushing agendas in the classroom.
00:35But the union suggested both these leaders' comments were a fundamentally incorrect portrayal
00:40of how the Australian curriculum is delivered.
00:43And they also accused them of attacking the teaching profession.
00:47Now, Senator Canavan, he's hit back at the union today.
00:50As I said, he's standing by these comments.
00:53And he's claiming young men and boys are being taught they're inferior because they're boys.
00:58And he says that this is attracting them to toxic voices online.
01:03And in particular, he's also levelled criticism against the respectful relationships framework,
01:09claiming anti-boy ideologies are being taught at school.
01:13So what I'd say to the education union is, do they think it's appropriate that our schools
01:21lecture young boys to say that they have personal male privilege?
01:26Is that appropriate?
01:27I don't think it is.
01:28I don't think our schools should be teaching an anti-boy ideology, which condemns people
01:33for the gender that they are born.
01:36Where do I start with Matt Canavan's comments?
01:39The fact that he thinks it is the feminisation of the curriculum just shows how out of touch
01:47he is with the actual challenge that parents are wrestling with right now.
01:52Teaching young people to be respectful of one another is not feminisation.
01:56That's helping young people be good human beings.
02:00Now, that's the New South Wales Minister, New South Wales Education Minister, Prue Carr.
02:05They're very much disputing what Matt Canavan is saying.
02:09This Respectful Relationships National Framework, it was established to teach both primary and
02:14secondary students about respectful relationships and consent.
02:18It doesn't mention privilege, but Senator Canavan's office has pointed to a respectful relationships
02:24resource put together by an advocacy group called Our Watch that does refer to personal
02:29male privilege.
02:30Senator Canavan today said he does believe consent should be taught at schools, but he
02:35says it should be done in an appropriate way, Joe.
02:38And, Jake, Angus Taylor says he wants to take a closer look at the school curriculum.
02:42Why?
02:43Yeah, well, the opposition leader says he doesn't want the school curriculum politicised, and
02:47he says the coalition will take a closer look at this issue.
02:52He today said it was right that consent was taught in schools.
02:55He supports that, but he again expressed concerns around what he says are teachers pushing political
03:02agendas, or agendas rather, within the classroom.
03:05Mr Taylor says most teachers are wonderful people, but he's standing by what he said yesterday,
03:11and he believes most parents across Australia would agree with him.
