Raquel Laguna/ SUCOPRESS. Adria Arjona stars in ONSLAUGHT, directed by Adam Wingard. In this interview, Adria talks about her character, Celeste, and about playing a mother in “a redemption story of her motherhood”. Director Adam Wingard talks about what makes ONSLAUGHT different from other action movies, and also about working with Adria in the project. Following a detour into blockbuster filmmaking, Wingard returns to his genre roots with ONSLAUGHT, a fun, freaky, and ferocious female-driven action-thriller that fuses contemporary military paranoia with the gonzo spirit of an ’80s slasher B-movie. With echoes of HALLOWEEN, THE FOG, and THE TERMINATOR, the movie blends pulpy action spectacle, conspiracy thrills, and midnight-movie insanity into something both nostalgic and prescient. In ONSLAUGHT, when a rogue squad of genetically engineered super-soldiers breaks loose in the desert, a badass Army sniper must unleash hell to protect her young daughter. Dan Stevens, Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, Michael Biehn, Alex Pereira with Drew Starkey and Rebecca Hall star in the film alongside Adria Arjona. ONSLAUGHT releases on September 4th, 2026.

00:00Adria, what excited you the most playing Celeste, this badass army sniper?
00:08Well, there's a lot of elements. I mean, I think what excited me the most was to work with Mr.
00:13Adam over here.
00:15He just had like the coolest vision I've ever had a director sort of tell me in a lunch meeting.
00:22He like pitched me the whole entire opening of the movie and I was like, oh my god, I just,
00:26I really hope I get this one.
00:27And it was just so cool. And I love the fact that Celeste is messy and unapologetically herself.
00:34And she's not necessarily the best mom, but she's, you know, she's also not pretending to be.
00:40And I love that it's sort of a redemption story of her motherhood.
00:45And I thought that was really, really cool and interesting.
00:48I had never played a character like that.
00:52And one of the things that excited me the most as well was at the beginning,
00:55Adam shared a lot of the music with me.
00:59And I don't know, that just gets you in the zone and it gets you in the tone of a
01:04movie so much quicker.
01:06So that was pretty cool.
01:07I like the fact that, you know, at the beginning of the movie, she doesn't get to her arsenal of
01:13guns.
01:13And, you know, she has her neighbors who you kind of see her discussing and not in the best terms
01:19with at the beginning of the movie in there who sort of protect her along the way.
01:23And then she gets that chainsaw finally and removes havoc.
01:29But yeah, I've always said, I'm like, there's nothing scarier in the world than a mom trying to protect her
01:38child.
01:38Like, I will take a boxer, I'll take an MMA fighter, I'll take a ninja, but I will not mess
01:44with a mom trying to protect her.
01:46That is too feral, too intimidating, no thank you.
01:51And I think that's why Celeste is such a badass.
01:53Adam, what do you think makes this movie very fresh, unique and different from another action slash horror movies out
02:03there?
02:04Well, in an interesting way, I think the thing that makes it kind of feel new is the fact that
02:08we're taking a lot of familiar things that you've seen and love in genre tropes,
02:13but we're combining them in ways that you've never seen before.
02:15You know, like I think that's sort of what my specialty is as a director is I like to, you
02:20know, walk this tightrope of like, you know, of just like mixing genres together in ways that you haven't seen
02:28before.
02:28And, you know, and that's a hard thing to, you know, carry over tone wise.
02:33And so, yeah, I mean, it's like it's like we wanted to do something modern and new, but we wanted
02:39to do it by way of, you know, our influences from John Carpenter and James Cameron, 80s, 90s movies and
02:47that kind of thing.
02:48You are also executive producer in the film.
02:52So I was working with her.
02:55What is more challenging dealing with Adria as an actress or as a producer?
03:01I would say either one was challenging, you know, like we got along and, you know, and, you know, like,
03:08you know, Adria had a lot of great ideas that we incorporated into the film because, you know, it's really
03:12important that, you know, like, you know, your lead in a film,
03:17it's like they're more than just like, you know, like a living prop, you know, and she like, she knew
03:24the character up and down and, you know, and so she pushed us in some really good directions actually.
03:30Great. Great job. Thank you so much.
