00:00There are places in the world where every single step could mean the difference between coming home safely or disappearing
00:07forever.
00:08No fences, no second chances, only rocks, wind, and emptiness.
00:13Throughout history, cliffs have been symbols of breathtaking beauty, but at the same time, they represent danger caused by human
00:21error,
00:22sudden collapses, and decisions made in just a matter of seconds.
00:26There are cliffs that attract thousands of tourists every year, while others remain remote and almost forgotten.
00:35But all of them hide a danger that isn't immediately visible at first glance.
00:42In this video, we will visit the 10 most dangerous cliffs in the world, places with breathtaking views but where
00:49nature is unforgiving.
00:52From rock walls that slowly crumble to forgotten paths hanging over extremely deep cliffs, get ready because our journey is
01:01about to begin.
01:02But before we start, if you're new to our channel, please click the subscribe button and also hit the notification
01:09bell so you'll always be updated with our latest videos.
01:16At first glance, FjadragljĂşfur looks like a place straight out of a fairy tale.
01:21It is a narrow canyon covered with vibrant green moss, while a river quietly flows between its almost vertical stone
01:30walls.
01:31Over thousands of years, water gradually carved away the rocks formed from volcanic activity until this deep fissure in the
01:40earth was created.
01:41The result is a landscape that is almost unbelievable because of its unique shape and natural symmetry.
01:49But behind its peaceful appearance lies a fragile and dangerous environment.
01:55In some parts, the canyon walls reach over 100 meters high, while the constantly wet ground can become slippery in
02:04just a few minutes.
02:06The weather in Iceland is also not easy to predict.
02:10Sudden fog, strong winds and rain can quickly reduce visibility and turn a simple walk into something dangerous without any
02:18warning.
02:21Because of the large increase in visitors in recent years, the canyon has had to be closed several times to
02:27protect both nature and tourists.
02:32FjadragljĂşfur is not frightening because of its violent appearance, but because of its deceptive silence.
02:39This is one of those places where danger doesn't scream, it just quietly waits.
02:49On the coast of Normandy, France, you can find the Cliffs of Etretat.
02:54They rise like massive white walls facing the English Channel.
03:00Its natural arches and sharp rock formations have inspired painters and writers for centuries, making it one of the most
03:08famous sights in France.
03:11From above, the combination of white limestone, dark sea, and ever-changing sky is truly breathtaking.
03:19But behind this beauty lies a dangerous reality.
03:23The rock that forms Etretat is extremely fragile and continues to wear away because of erosion.
03:30Every year there are rock falls, and some of these happen without any warning.
03:34This gradually changes the shape of the cliff and causes some parts of it to disappear completely.
03:42In addition, the rapid rise and fall of the seawater can trap hikers at the foot of the cliff with
03:48no safe way out.
03:51The risk is greatest when people stray from the designated trails.
03:56You only need to go a few meters beyond the designated boundary to end up on unstable ground where the
04:02rocks could collapse at any time.
04:05Right now, this place doesn't immediately appear dangerous, not because it's remote or isolated, but because of its deceptively easy
04:14access.
04:15A place that seems safe and trouble-free, but where nature often reminds us that the landscape is constantly moving
04:23and changing.
04:26Number 8. Cabo Jurao, Portugal
04:28On the island of Madeira, Portugal, Cabo Jurao rises like an almost perfect wall that suddenly drops down to the
04:35Atlantic Ocean.
04:36It stands almost 600 meters high, making it one of the highest cliffs in Europe.
04:42For many centuries, it has been a natural barrier for the communities living along the coast.
04:48From above, the sea looks quiet and very far away, almost as if it's not really there beneath you.
04:55The sense of security that visitors feel today is actually quite new.
05:00The famous glass-floored observation deck is visited by thousands of tourists, but just stepping a little away from the
05:07platform lets you see a completely different environment.
05:11Narrow paths, unprotected edges, and constant exposure to strong winds from the Atlantic.
05:17When the wind blows hard, simply standing near the edge becomes a huge challenge.
05:23The real danger of the cliff is not just in its height, but in the false confidence it gives to
05:29visitors.
05:30The height is real, the cliff is real, and you have almost no room for mistakes.
05:35Here, the view doesn't scare you.
05:38It just doesn't give you a chance to correct a mistake.
05:43Number 7.
05:44Prekestolen, Norway
05:46In the western part of Norway, a massive granite platform juts out over the Lisefjord, as if it's challenging gravity
05:55itself.
05:55It's called Prekestolen, or pulpit rock, a natural rock formation that stands about 604 meters above the fjord.
06:05It's like a balcony hanging over deep blue waters.
06:09Its top surprisingly flat, measuring about 25 by 25 meters.
06:16As if the rock was perfectly shaped to offer one of the most beautiful views of the Norwegian landscape.
06:22But to get here, you need to walk several kilometers along a trail that passes through forests and rocky areas.
06:30There are also steep sections that test the endurance of many hikers.
06:36Although the trail is well made and clearly marked, and it has even improved in recent years.
06:43The breathtaking view encourages some visitors to get too close to the edge just to get the perfect photo.
06:50Because there are no barriers or protections at the edge, a single misstep or a sudden gust of wind can
06:57turn a wonderful experience into a tragedy.
07:02The stark contrast between how easy it is to get here and the sheer drop is what makes Prekestolen both
07:09awe-inspiring and terrifying.
07:12Thousands of people climb here every year because of the breathtaking views of the fjords and mountains.
07:18But the very platform that offers unforgettable pictures also serves as a harsh reminder of how vast and deep nature
07:27is.
07:29There is nothing between your feet and the void.
07:33And in the midst of that silence, while facing such a breathtaking view, it's easy to feel raw dizziness and
07:40fear.
07:46On the western coast of Tenerife, above the Atlantic Ocean, you can find the massive cliffs of the giants.
07:53These are gigantic walls of volcanic rock that seem to rise from the sea.
07:59It's like an endless wall.
08:02In some parts, these formations reach heights of over 600 meters.
08:06These were formed by massive lava flows in ancient times, along with the continuous erosion caused by the sea.
08:15From the sea or from coastal viewpoints, the sight of these giant stone walls is truly captivating.
08:21At first glance, they seem impossible to access.
08:25A place where the power of the sea and volcanic geology come together without restraint.
08:30There are boats that have sailed under the shadow of these cliffs, while the seabed in some areas reaches depths
08:38of around 30 meters.
08:40Under the cliffs, there are shrimp and other marine life that attract brave divers and seafarers.
08:46The stark contrast between the breathtaking beauty and the harsh environment is the reason why the cliffs of the giants
08:54are both captivating and dangerous.
08:57Being close to the edge.
08:59The slippery volcanic rock and the strong waves crashing against the shore are reminders that nature is not a safe
09:07place.
09:07Just one wrong move or a sudden wave, and the whole experience can change in an instant.
09:18Deep in the fjords of Norway, there is a unique tongue of rock that seems to have been carved by
09:24a giant to challenge anyone brave enough to climb it.
09:28Trolltonga, which literally means troll's tongue, juts out horizontally from the mountain, about 700 meters above Lake Ringgadalsvatnet.
09:39From here, you can see a view that is literally breathtaking.
09:43But getting to that place is not just a simple walk.
09:46The route is long and difficult.
09:48From the starting point to the actual protruding rock, you need to walk approximately 27 kilometers with an elevation gain
09:57of about 800 meters.
09:59The entire walk through the mountainous terrain usually takes 8 to 12 hours.
10:05The trail is well made and clearly marked, but the weather in these mountains can change suddenly.
10:11And once you reach Trolltonga, it feels like the rock itself is challenging the very ground.
10:17A flat platform that juts directly into the void with no railings or any barriers, and beneath it lies a
10:25vast view of water, mountains, and sky.
10:29Approaching its edge requires extreme caution and concentration.
10:34Here, more than in many other places, nature displays its own laws and reminds us that extreme beauty and danger
10:42can go hand in hand.
10:49In the mountainous region of southwestern Norway, above the deep waters of the Lisefjord, lies the Chirag Massif.
10:56It has almost vertical walls that seem to plunge endlessly toward the sea.
11:02The mountain rises over a thousand meters high, making it stand out as a giant rock dominating the entire landscape.
11:10In some parts, it's almost impossible to imagine from the ground just how steep it is.
11:17But the greatest attraction, and perhaps the most nerve-wracking, is the Chirag Bolton.
11:24It is a massive rock, estimated to be about 5 cubic meters in size, wedged between two walls of the
11:31mountain.
11:32And this rock is hanging over a cliff that is almost 984 meters deep.
11:39Many visitors come here not only because of the breathtaking view, but also because it goes against the natural instinct
11:46of humans.
11:46To survive, you can stand right on top of it without a harness or any protection.
11:52The trail to Chirag is a difficult hike that is approximately 10 kilometers long with continuous uphill sections and rocky
12:01terrain that can become wet and slippery when the weather changes.
12:05Throughout the route, there are steep sections that require extra caution, and since there are no protections in some areas,
12:12every step demands intense attention.
12:15In this kind of environment, experience and proper preparation are more important than courage.
12:25On the western side of Ireland, above the raging Atlantic Ocean, you can find the Cliffs of Moher.
12:32A massive wall of rock that suddenly drops more than 200 meters down to the sea at its highest point.
12:40It stretches for several kilometers and offers a view that combines the power of the ocean and the quiet beauty
12:47of the Irish landscape.
12:49A big part of its attraction is the feeling that you're standing at the edge of the world.
12:55The wind powerfully strikes the cliffs, while the waves below crash against the rocks with a tremendous roar.
13:03But these very same features attract visitors who want to capture the perfect photo or experience an intense sense of
13:11vertigo when looking down into the depths.
13:14Because of this, some people get too close to the edge where the ground can be unstable and slippery.
13:21This is not just a simple warning.
13:23Between 1993 and 2017, a large number of fatal incidents have been recorded related to falling from these cliffs.
13:34Many of these happened when people lost their balance as they got too close to the edge.
13:40Because of this, some parts of the trails were closed and the barriers were reinforced.
13:47Because of this, it is a reminder that the beauty of the scenery here cannot be separated from the power
13:53of the ocean and the danger of the high cliffs.
14:01In the middle of UK Alamba, Drakensburg, a vast mountain range whose name means barrier of spears, you can find
14:09one of the most amazing rock formations in Africa, the amphitheater.
14:13This massive rock formation stretches for more than 5 kilometers and rises over a thousand meters high, forming an almost
14:21perfect wall of basalt that drops vertically above the Tugela Valley.
14:26The reason why this place is unique is not just its size, but also the Tugela Falls.
14:33From the top of the wall, the waterfall drops almost 984 meters, making it one of the highest waterfalls in
14:41the world.
14:43Here, the sound of falling water merges with the echoes of a wild and almost untouched landscape.
14:50As you climb toward the summit, a journey that can take several hours through difficult terrain and high altitude,
14:58hikers must face steep sections and narrow paths, and sudden changes in weather.
15:05From above, the sense of vastness and height of the place is truly awe-inspiring.
15:10There are no railings or safe protected zones, only a narrow edge of rock serves as the boundary between solid
15:17ground and the extremely deep void.
15:19The combination of height, steepness, and the natural conditions of the environment is the reason why extreme caution is needed
15:27with every step here.
15:29Because of places like this, we are reminded that the power and tranquility of nature are unmatched.
15:36Number 1. Mount Huashan, China
15:39In the province of Shanxi, about 120 kilometers east of Shanxi, you can find Mount Huashan, a mountain sacred in
15:49Chinese culture and one of the five great Taoist mountains of China.
15:53Its peaks reach over 2,160 meters in height.
15:58The mountain combines ancient temples, steep pathways, and cliffs that seem to be shaped by the wind itself.
16:05Because of this, the place has gained an almost legendary aura.
16:09But Huashan is not only known for its beauty, it became even more famous for something else.
16:14Because of the pathways hanging above the depth, in some parts, especially in what is called the Changkong Cliff Road
16:22or Plank Road, the pathways are made up of narrow planks attached directly to the side of the cliff.
16:28There are some parts that are only about 30 centimeters wide, and metal chains are the only things you can
16:35hold on to for support.
16:37There are reports saying that many accidents happen in these dangerous sections, especially to people who take risks and pass
16:44through without proper equipment and preparation.
16:48Climbing Mount Huashan is like entering a landscape where history, spirituality, and intense trepidation come together.
16:56The mountain invites you to continue along steps carved into the rock, with deep drop-offs on both sides.
17:04The silence is broken only by the sound of your footsteps.
17:07And here, even the beauty of the surrounding seems to warn you that you are walking with nothing but air
17:13beneath you.
17:14A place where awe-inspiring nature and real danger stand side by side.
17:21Bonus Bundabundacliffs, Australia
17:23So far, we've visited some of the most dangerous cliffs in the world.
17:28Places where depth, height, and danger are all part of the scenery.
17:32But before we end the video, we want to mention another place that deserves to be included in this journey.
17:38This is the Bondabundacliffs on the southern coast of Australia.
17:42It's an extremely long wall of limestone rock that stretches for more than 200 kilometers along the Great Australian Bight.
17:50In many parts, the cliff drops directly into the ocean.
17:54There are no beaches, no trails, and no infrastructure clearly separating the solid ground from the depths.
18:03Aside from its length, what truly distinguishes the Bundabundacliffs is its extreme isolation from civilization.
18:09It is located in one of the most remote parts of Australia, where few people pass by and the ocean
18:16is known for its strong waves and cold currents.
18:19Here, there are no second chances and almost no help nearby.
18:25Any mistake or accident can happen in an environment where distance and time can work against you.
18:33Throughout this journey, we have seen cliffs that are remarkable because of their height, shape, or the dangers they hide.
18:43Places where nature doesn't need to show off to earn our respect, because sometimes it only takes one step for
18:51everything to change.
18:53These sites were not made to be conquered, but to be understood and respected.
18:59They remind us that no matter how used we are to observing the world from a safe distance, there are
19:06still places where nature has the final say.
