After months away from filming, the search for a fox near Athens turns into a trail camera review and a DSLR camera trap setup in a quiet ravine above the coast. The CEYOMUR CY70 trailcam is tested first, then the scene is rebuilt with a DSLR, flash, trigger, and carefully chosen angles to follow the faint track and dry riverbed where foxes and stray cats have been seen.

Along the way, the video covers unboxing, menu setup, battery loading, video settings, and field placement, making it useful for anyone interested in trail camera setup, wildlife photography, and DIY camera traps. The location, the weather, and the changing light all shape the final results, and the footage includes the hoped-for fox encounter, even if the DSLR battery causes problems and the framing needs rethinking.

Created for viewers searching for trailcam review, CEYOMUR CY70 setup, DSLR camera trap tutorial, fox wildlife footage, and backyard or ravine wildlife monitoring. It also fits searches for wildlife camera setup, nature photography field testing, and practical camera trap tips for animals near home.

00:00I love you
00:53So hello again my friends, I hope you are all doing very well.
00:57It's been such a long time since I was able to bring you a video, I think it's about
01:02seven or eight months now.
01:05And basically, long story short, since leaving north of Greece in June, after finishing filming
01:14for the Nat Geo documentary, which I hope you managed to catch on National Geographic
01:19Wild, on Greek wildlife, it was called Hidden Wonders of Europe, and I was filming part
01:26of the, a large part of the Greece episode, anyway.
01:31So when that finished, I came back down to Athens to find an apartment here, because I was going
01:38to be joined by my teenage daughter, who was going to come and go to school out here for
01:44a year, and so I needed to set all that up.
01:49And then we also found this little guy down here, who was a rescue.
01:54He's part Greek shepherd and part God knows what, but he's very cute, so I've had my hands
02:03trustful, trying to raise him, and sort my daughter out at school as well.
02:09So yeah, plus working, and not really having enough time to make videos.
02:14But here we are, anyway, so I was approached a couple of months ago now actually, by this
02:20company, who make trail cams, and they asked me if I would review this particular camera that
02:26they had brought out.
02:27I think it's one of the budget end ones, so around 70, 80 pounds, British money, 90 or
02:34so Euros I guess, and about $100 US.
02:40So I'm going to try and find a position, it's called the CY70, and I'm going to try and find
02:52a position up this ravine, which is basically a ravine which carries on up from where I live,
02:58just down the coast from Athens.
03:01And after the buildings finish, it carries on up the mountain, and it's quite beautiful.
03:06It's quite difficult to access, but I'm hoping that it's also a route down from the mountain
03:15to the residential area for foxes, because people leave food out in certain places for
03:24the stray cats, and it also attracts the foxes.
03:28So I've noticed a couple coming down, but I haven't, I don't know that they're coming
03:32using this route in particular, but it sort of makes sense that this is where they would
03:39walk through.
03:40So I'm going to set up a trail camera a little bit further up here, this trail camera, that
03:47way we can try it out, and also see if there's actually any movement.
03:51So I shall see you in a minute, and we'll unbox this together when I get to the spot.
03:57See you guys next time.
04:07See you then.
04:26So I've come upstream a fair bit but I got blocked further up where there was a fallen
04:36tree across the ravine and I couldn't go up any further.
04:40So I've come back down here to another fallen tree, I don't know if you can make that out
04:45behind me.
04:46So there's a fallen tree just here and it's created like a tunnel through the ravine here
04:56and it makes for quite a decent spot I guess to set up the trail cam and see if we
05:02might
05:02catch anything coming through here.
05:05There's also the faintest remnants of a track just over on the rocks up here which go from
05:14up there and then they come down all the way here.
05:19So hopefully I'll set it up on the tree back here looking this way and it should hopefully
05:26cover the little ravine here, the dry river bed and the track up here.
05:35So let me just put the camera down and get the trail cam out and we'll set it up.
05:43So bear with me a second.
05:46Okay, so I have taken the camera out of the box back at home and put batteries and a card
05:58in it because it doesn't come with a SD card.
06:04The wonderful thing with this camera is that it has 2.7K up to 2.7K video resolution.
06:14Waterproof, et cetera, built in LCD and a 120 degree detection angle.
06:22Has a little user manual in it.
06:25The camera itself is actually really quite compact.
06:30It's sort of almost palm sized so it fits nicely in your hand, is easy to carry as light.
06:39In terms of accessories that it does come with, like I said, it doesn't come with an SD card
06:44so you'll have to get one of them, plus the batteries.
06:48It uses 8 AA batteries.
06:51It comes with its mounting strap, a mounting plate and the USB cable to connect it to your computer.
07:07I'll put that away for the moment because it won't need that.
07:12Just the camera and it's really simple in use actually.
07:18I'll turn the camera around onto the trail cam so you can see me how easily I set it up.
07:27So let's do that.
07:30Okay so here we are with the camera.
07:33Opens up with these little latches on the side, as usual.
07:40And you are, it reveals the battery compartment just here.
07:46There's a little pull string to open up the door.
07:51You load up your AA batteries in here.
07:54So that's quite convenient and easy to open and access.
07:57And then the main set-up of the cameras here, so there's a little screen here, on-off button here.
08:07So into the middle position is to set it up, give that a chance to boot up for a moment.
08:14Go straight into the menu and first item is mode, so you can choose that to set photo or video
08:23or both together.
08:25So I'll just leave it on video for the moment.
08:28You can set the the peer interval here.
08:33And again it's really easy to navigate, it's just up and down, left and right buttons with an OK in
08:38the middle.
08:39So to select a particular item on the menu, you just hit the OK button and it'll select it and
08:45then you can make your choice.
08:47And again, so this is the peer interval to move up and down.
08:50You can just up and down with the buttons and then OK when you're done.
08:57Peer sensitivity, so low, medium and high.
09:01So I just leave it on medium.
09:05Interval is off, infrared LED is on automatic.
09:09So that's the basic setup, and then because I'm in Europe, my frequency is set to 50 hertz.
09:19So if we move across to the photo menu, you can choose what image size you want up to 24
09:29megabyte image, which is quite large, decent resolution there.
09:36You can set the number of pictures you want it to take and the shutter speed, which is the maximum
09:42of 1 30th of a second.
09:45And then if we go further right, we go to the video mode.
09:50I've chosen here the maximum resolution of 2.7K 30fps, video length of 20 seconds, and I'm recording audio as
10:05well.
10:05And then the last item on the menu is your basic settings, where you can choose the language, format the
10:14card, which we can do now actually, format OK, date and time, and the time format, which is 24 hours.
10:24And then you can choose the date stamp to be on the recording, beep sound, you can name the camera,
10:33password setting if you want to lock it, and then auto power off is set to a default of three
10:39minutes.
10:39And that's basically it, in terms of setting it up.
10:43So we get out of there again just by pushing the menu button, takes this back into the main view,
10:48so we can see all our settings.
10:50At the moment it's set to photo, which I don't want, I want it to record in video.
10:54So we just push the mode button here, and that will switch it into the video, which you can see
11:00confirmed up at the top of the screen there, 2.7K 30fps.
11:05OK, so that's ready to go now, and all we have to do is basically push the little switch all
11:10the way over to the right, and that will alarm the camera in five seconds, it gives you a countdown,
11:15and then it's ready to go.
11:19OK, so close that back up.
11:25And that's ready to be put into position.
11:34So I shall just do that, set it up on the tree here, try and get my angle of view
11:39right.
11:39Where's my dog off to?
11:41I'm just exploring back there.
11:43So, yeah, and we'll see over the next couple of days if we manage to record anything, so let me
11:48just go do that.
12:01OK, so that should be good to go.
12:03So we'll come back in a couple of days, and see if it's picked up anything.
12:07So, see you back then.
12:12OK, so hello again, and I'm back up the ravine at the site where I placed the trail cam for
12:19the foxes.
12:22It's been about a week since I set that up, but I did come down a couple of days after
12:27setting it up to recover it.
12:30Basically because we had a really nasty weather front coming, and so I wanted to rescue it from that.
12:35And also because I was really curious basically to see the footage, if any, that the camera was able to
12:43record.
12:44And I'm happy to say it was pretty decent.
12:47I mean, the sensor on these little cameras is absolutely tiny, so even though it's 2.7K, it's not going
12:55to produce what a DSLR can produce.
12:57But having said that, it's still absolutely great footage, so I'm happy to endorse the camera, and I shall be
13:05leaving a link to it below this video.
13:08If you're interested in acquiring a trail cam, you might very well consider this one.
13:15So, yeah, so I'm back up.
13:17I've got a couple of days of leeway in the weather, and then it turns bad again apparently.
13:22So I thought I'd try and set up the DSLR camera trap, and see if we might catch the fox.
13:29The dog is chewing stones down there.
13:32Never mind.
13:34So yeah, so I'll set the camera up here.
13:39Reviewing the footage that I got off the trail camera, it seems that the fox is coming down from that
13:45track that I mentioned, the faint track up on the mountain here.
13:48And he comes down across these rocks, and up the gully here.
13:54So, I'm going to set up the camera so it has a view of these stones, because they're quite nice,
13:59these rocks here.
14:01I don't know if it's focused.
14:04It's quite nice, and there's probably a view to some sky looking back this way as well, which means that
14:11we might get some starlight if we get a long exposure.
14:13So I'm going to set all that up, set the trail cam up again to record the whole scene, and
14:19come back in a couple of days and see what happens.
14:34there like a beautiful pictures that we have in a advertising?
14:36I的是 There it is.
14:38Game happens, okay?
14:40Come back.
14:42So strong.
15:07So I've set all that up.
15:09I set the camera trap in the gully itself, just down here, just behind Wasabi, with a flash mounted on
15:20the leg, as a direct flash for the fox if he comes up from the gully this way or if
15:27he comes from where I'm sitting down the rocks, I should hopefully capture him.
15:31And it's got a view of the open sky behind me, so if we have clear nights we might get
15:39some starlight as well.
15:41And then across the way here I have the trigger, which is hopefully capturing movement from the gully itself and
15:51from the rocks where I'm sitting.
15:53Next to that is the flash for some side light and hopefully to light a little bit of the background.
16:00And up here on the tree back where it was before is the trail cam to record the whole scene.
16:07So that's where it is at the moment.
16:10I've got, like I said, a couple of clear nights ahead of us, so hopefully we'll get some starlight, hopefully
16:15we'll get the fox coming through and get some images of him before I have to take it all down
16:21before the really bad weather hits.
16:24So yeah, and I shall catch up with you again in another couple of days, hopefully with some results from
16:30the camera trap here, so I shall see you then.
16:33OK, so I'm just headed back up the ravine now.
16:38The DSLR has been out for two nights, three days, and we've got a storm front moving in which is
16:46going to be lasting for the next week or so, which is why I'm coming to break it all down.
16:51I'll just let the puppy walk through and see if he sets it all off.
16:58Sabi, go on!
17:00Go on!
17:04Oh, not firing.
17:07So that could be batteries.
17:14And that's not a good sign.
17:17So hopefully it might have been set off so many times by something.
17:23Like I said, there's a lot of stray cats just down by the residential area, and if they wander up
17:28this way they might have been setting it off.
17:31But I'll break it all down and have a quick look and see if there's anything on it.
17:34So bear with me.
17:55OK, so the battery is completely dead.
18:00So the battery on the DSLR has completely died.
18:06So I can't even check to see if there's anything on here that was recorded.
18:11So I have to wait until we go back.
18:12Look, the transmitter's still alive.
18:16Seems my camera battery was deaf.
18:27So I'll break it all down, take it home and see what's on it.
18:36If anything, I have a feeling nothing will be on it.
18:42Hello again my friends.
18:43This is the morning after I collected the camera trap.
18:50Broke it all down.
18:51The bad weather that was forecast has not arrived.
18:55But just as well I went out to break it all down.
19:00Because it turns out that the camera battery, the DSLR camera battery, was deaf.
19:09And it lost its charge, must have lost its charge very quickly.
19:13And it's not recharging at all now.
19:17So, yeah, in the event, I only got three images of the Fox.
19:25Only one of which was actually sharp, where he stood still long enough to actually record a decent picture.
19:35But the picture itself, in terms of the position of the Fox and the whole scene, the background, is not
19:48that inspiring, to be honest.
19:51So, I'll have to rethink either the setup in that location, and try and improve it somehow, or find an
20:01alternate location where the Fox is larger in frame, or where the background is that much more interesting.
20:12So, yeah, that's actually partly why I'm up the mountain now with the dog, that keeps trying to bite me.
20:20Dog.
20:20Dog.
20:22Um.
20:24And, uh, as well as to give him a bit of exercise, and me.
20:29And, uh, yeah, so that'll be hopefully coming in a few weeks' time, uh, in a new video.
20:39But, uh, for the moment I shall leave you with that picture, and a little bit of the trail cam
20:44footage.
20:46And, uh, I hope that you've enjoyed watching this video.
20:52Unfortunately the result wasn't quite what I wanted, but, uh, that's the way it goes with camera tracking.
20:58Sometimes you get a fantastic shot, and most of the time you don't.
21:05So, I shall catch up with you again soon.
21:08Thanks again for watching, and I'll say bye for now.
21:12Bye.
21:15Bye.
21:42Bye.
21:45Bye.
