00:00so i want to tell you guys about an organization that you're familiar with because we've had its
00:06president in the studio um a few times so it's the headstrong foundation yes yes we love them
00:14cheryl call lori is doing an amazing job um and let me just tell you a little bit about it
00:19so
00:19headstrong foundation was created by nick calla lori while he was battling non-hodgkin's lymphoma
00:27at just 19 years old oh my god so during his treatment he saw firsthand the financial
00:33and emotional challenges that families face that are affected by cancer and he envisioned an
00:40organization that would help ease those burdens wow so after he passed his mom cheryl committed
00:47herself to carrying forward nick's mission and she grew the headstrong foundation into a nationwide
00:53organization that has been supporting families all across the country for 20 years now amazing
01:00wow so there is a nick's house in philadelphia and there's a nick's house in boston because those are
01:06two medical hubs that people travel from so far right and you have to imagine if you've never been
01:11in this situation when you are dealing with an illness like cancer you're gonna go to the ends
01:17of the earth to save your loved one right but that oftentimes means traveling a great distance in
01:23order to get the treatment that you need to save their lives which means taking time off of work
01:28now you don't have all the funds that you need and that's what nick's house allows you to do well
01:34like i said they currently have houses in philadelphia and in boston and for their 20th anniversary
01:40headstrong foundation is expanding its mission to north carolina with the establishment of nick's house
01:45village in durham what wow that's amazing news free housing for families traveling to the area for
01:55cancer treatment and it's uh it is amazing that 25 of the patients that are going to duke and unc
02:03which
02:03is right near where nick's village is um they're traveling more than 200 miles for treatment wow right
02:10so now they don't have to stay in a hotel right they can stay in this one of these beautiful
02:16homes
02:16with other families that are going through exactly what they're going through they get the emotional
02:21support that they need they get the financial support that they need um and it really is amazing so
