00:00Welcome to Dangerville everyone, Jacob here and I hope you didn't forget about the upcoming
00:04remaster of Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee, because we've got a brand new trailer
00:13to go over that came out last week.
00:17In a couple short months, the game has made some major leaps in its graphical quality
00:21and has finally laid down the full roster of monsters that you will be able to control
00:26in combat.
00:26We also got a good look at some of these kaiju facing off that looks really promising
00:31and makes me think of the original game, but there are also some concerns in the game's
00:36trailer that I'll go over as well.
00:38Alright everyone, like the video for more Godzilla news and updates and let's get to it.
00:43The trailer wastes no time in showing off its updated graphics since the first teaser trailer
00:48back in early summer.
00:50The skybox looks somehow relaxing and the water is shining very nice-like I think.
00:55we even get a taste of some lava here.
00:58I think all of this is an improvement over the first reveal, but I'm still not a big
01:03fan of the game's overall look.
01:05It's not bad, don't get me wrong, but it somehow looks more cartoony than the original
01:10game did like 25 years ago, and it looks like that was the desired aesthetic the devs wanted
01:17to go with because we see this visual theme continue throughout the trailer and this game's
01:22entire presentation pretty much.
01:25And you can really get a sense for this when you check out the kaiju models.
01:28The first monster that comes on screen is Orga, my personal least favorite monster from this
01:34game.
01:35While we're at it, go ahead and tell me your favorite and least favorite kaiju and destroy
01:39all monsters down in the comments.
01:42And then we get to see the king of the monsters himself, Godzi- what the is that?
01:48We finally get to see Godzilla 2000 in this remaster, and well, I mean, the detail in the
01:54scales is nice.
01:56Looks just like the movie version, doesn't it?
01:59Look, I don't want to sound rude, but how can the studio get together and be okay with
02:03making Godzilla look like the D-Rex?
02:06The rest of this model looks great, I think, though.
02:09The detail in the skin really makes the kaijus pop out in this 3D world, but there's something
02:14to the overall look that just gives the character models in the remaster this less serious look
02:20than they had in the original game.
02:22It's like when we went from the animated Clone Wars series to Star Wars Rebels.
02:27Still looks good, but clearly made for a younger audience.
02:31And you really see it with Godzilla 2000, at least from certain angles.
02:36From the side, Godzilla looks good.
02:38You can't really notice the differences in his look, and that's probably a good thing.
02:42From here, though, in the trailer, we get to see Godzilla and Orga battle.
02:46And here's where the game actually shines.
02:48It really does look like the game's gonna be super faithful gameplay-wise to the original
02:53game.
02:54There seems to be, like, no deviations in gameplay at all.
02:58And just like back in the day, for some reason, I still get a good chuckle out of seeing Godzilla
03:02bounce around like he just stubbed the hell out of his toe.
03:05I'm sorry Godzilla, I'm sorry!
03:07The gameplay looks as fun as it did all those years ago when I was a kid.
03:11I cannot praise that enough.
03:13But with this footage, there's also something that I really want to mention in the hopes
03:17there's time for the studio to work on it some.
03:20It's the only thing in this trailer and everything I've seen from the game so far that I actually
03:26really can't stand.
03:28More so than DZilla over here, even.
03:31The little cutesy cartoon effects when the monsters impact one another.
03:35Pretty much all of the effects in the game are these animated 2D comic book looking effects
03:41that really make the visuals feel like they're trying to steal some of Gigabash's more kid-friendly
03:46atmosphere.
03:47And I'm not gonna lie, I hate it.
03:49Just look at Godzilla's atomic blast.
03:51This could be so cool with how his spines are heating up and glowing, but then we get
03:56this cartoony, anime-looking beam shooting out of his mouth and it doesn't even fit the
04:013D world of the game at all.
04:03Safe to say, I'm not a fan of this odd blending of styles here.
04:08The trailers are really trying to showcase a gritty, covered in fire sort of atmosphere
04:13in their presentation, but the game itself doesn't seem to capture that same early thousands
04:19energy that the original game was overfilling with.
04:22I mean the OG game did have dramatic battle effects too, but they weren't nearly as in
04:27your face.
04:28These new effects are begging you to notice them.
04:30There's actually more to this design choice that we really wanted to talk about that spans
04:35across the game's entire presentation, and Alistair's actually working on a video right
04:40now that's going to go more into the things we want to critique about the game.
04:44So make sure you subscribe and hit the bell if you haven't already if you want to hear
04:48more on the things we don't like from the remaster so far.
04:51So the point of this trailer was to primarily showcase the full roster of monsters which is
04:56now 100% confirmed to be 12 Kaiju, and each of them is introduced in the trailer.
05:02Starting with Rodan and Mechagodzilla from the Showa era.
05:06The design qualities from Godzilla and Orga kinda carry over here.
05:11In one regard they look great, and in others they look too cartoony to be a remaster of the
05:16original game that, while having dated graphics, only looks cartoony because cartoony graphics
05:22at that time were considered lifelike.
05:25This back then was pretty damn impressive from a visual standpoint.
05:29But with the remaster, while not grabbing the look of the old game the way I want it to,
05:34once again does remind us that it sure as hell will feel like the old game at least.
05:39Throwing buildings, iconic attacks, and RAGE!
05:44Wait why is that just a red smear across the screen?
05:47Where's the explosion effects from the original game?
05:50This just doesn't look good.
05:53But Gigan looks super cool, and Anguirus.
05:56Which I'm probably the most happy to see back.
05:59Anguirus was my dad's favorite monster in this game, and so when we would play back then
06:03he would always choose him and I don't know it just hits me right in the feels.
06:08Both of these monsters, actually it seems like all of the monsters in the game, are bringing
06:12back their iconic moves.
06:14And they all look super fun to use just like back in the day.
06:18Next we see Megalon and Mecha King Ghidorah.
06:21Both look great even with their sorta stumpy, gigabash toy look going on to the monster models.
06:27I haven't mentioned the maps really in the video so far, and that's mostly a good thing.
06:32The maps are kind of like NFL offensive linemen.
06:36If you don't talk about them, it usually means they're doing their job well.
06:40But I have to say the maps look great and have all the cool customizable day and night time
06:45effects and supposedly more that we will get to have fun with.
06:49But the outside of the maps, the barrier walls there, the honeycomb grid force field look
06:55is just too much.
06:56It's distracting and takes away from the maps and the combat really.
07:00A quarter of my screen shouldn't be covered up by this.
07:04Maybe they just need to make the wall more transparent and less noticeable.
07:08It just doesn't need to be that intense visually to let the players know that's the edge of
07:12the map.
07:13I do like how alive they made the map seem in the remaster though.
07:17There's plenty of aircraft and vehicles flying around trying to deal with the kaizu battle
07:21taking place.
07:22And that's a cool touch that builds off the original game.
07:25And with this night time shot here in particular, I really like how the ocean gets darker as
07:31it drifts out.
07:32Gives the game this creepy energy and that's the sort of design work I love to see in a
07:37Godzilla fighting game.
07:38You know what else I love to see in a Godzilla fighting game?
07:41Destroyah and Kiryu.
07:43They look awesome too.
07:44Might just be my two favorite looking designs to come from this game yet, especially Mechagodzilla.
07:50The way the middle looks when the light hits it, yeah buddy.
07:53We also get to see 90s Godzilla as the old game called him and Ghidorah again back from
07:58the teaser trailer.
08:00And this time we get some who knew angles of their battle with the updated graphics.
08:05It actually took me a couple of times to catch this but they even have shadows on the buildings
08:09from the monsters in the game.
08:11That's some good attention to detail right there.
08:13I like it.
08:14The trailer then ends to reveal there's a demo coming only to Steam which is a bummer for
08:19console players for sure but the game comes out only a little over two weeks after this
08:24so it's not like you have to wait much longer to get to play.
08:28Overall with this trailer I liked what I saw.
08:30The gameplay looks identical to the original and that's what ultimately matters the most
08:35in a remaster I think.
08:37I'm still not sold on choosing to make the game look more kid friendly and cartoony.
08:42I feel like they may be trying too much to be like Giga Bash when they need to be more
08:46like Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee, ah, Melee.
08:50Thanks a lot Super Smash Brothers.
08:52Even the actual cartoon drawing at the end of the trailer had punch effects that didn't
08:58look like they came out of the old Batman show.
09:00Seeing smoke and sparks would work way better than a cartoony energy ball.
09:05At the least you can't deny it matches the energy of the original better if anything.
09:09And like I said earlier everyone, Al's got a video where he's going to delve deep
09:13into this topic, specifically the game's UI which is a real, real eyesore compared
09:19to the original.
09:20It's just super generic and bleh 2020's feeling.
09:23Not much soul to it at all.
09:25So stay tuned to hear Al go more into these topics in a couple of days on the channel.
09:29In the end though, does that really matter?
09:32Well I'm stoked to get to play this game anyway.
09:34And thankful we get a chance to play a real Godzilla game which has just been way, way
09:40too long.
09:41This is ultimately the first step in earning ourselves a true next gen Kaiju fighting game.
09:46And it looks like even with it's very questionable art style that Destroy All Monsters Melee, Remastered
09:53is going to be a lot of fun.
09:55As more comes out on the game you know that we're going to talk about it so I hope you
09:58come back to hang out with me here in Dangerville.
10:00This has been Jacob and I'll see you in the next one.
