00:00It's a sad day for international football or soccer.
00:04The GOAT, Lionel Messi, would never wear the iconic Argentina jersey again, and it's official.
00:10Messi announced his retirement from international soccer on Monday
00:14in a handwritten note posted to Instagram just six weeks after Argentina failed to Spain an extra time in the
00:21World Cup final
00:22and just weeks after losing his father, Jorge, who had also been his longtime agent.
00:28Now, this is what the international game of soccer is losing.
00:33207 caps for Argentina, second most in men's international history, 125 goals, two Copa America titles,
00:42and in 2022, the one that eluded him for almost two decades, a World Cup title.
00:49And even at this year's World Cup, spending a good chunk of the final on the field just walking around,
00:55my man still put up eight goals and two assists at 39 years old.
01:00From a kid at Barcelona to closing it out with a World Cup and two Copas in his back pocket,
01:07we say farewell to the GOAT.
