00:00Volunteers in Algeria's Djigel province are mobilising to help residents affected by the deadly wildfires that have been sweeping across
00:09the country's north.
00:11At least 12 people have been killed and more than 50 injured.
00:16Thousands of others lost their homes as the fires consumed everything in their path.
00:22The rescue teams came to get me as I was fleeing the flames.
00:26They came to evacuate the whole family and brought us here.
00:31I no longer have a home. I lost my husband. I have no strength left. Everything is gone.
00:40Residents displaced by the fires here in Jema Beni Habibi have been taking shelter at a local school where volunteers
00:48are collecting and distributing aid.
00:52This disaster struck the municipality of Jema Beni Habibi and the province of Djigel.
00:59Here there are around 800 people, perhaps more, perhaps fewer.
01:04It's difficult to establish an exact count given the scale of the tragedy.
01:09The situation these people are facing is truly heartbreaking.
01:13For our part, we're doing our duty.
01:17Many survivors say they've lost everything, from their homes to their livelihoods.
01:26When the fire broke out, I ran for my life.
01:29I have nothing left. I fled to save my life.
01:33I no longer have a house. I no longer have a village.
01:36Nothing. I have nothing. Except the clothes I'm wearing.
01:42The work to restore basic services, including electricity and water, is underway.
01:48But it will take years for these communities to rebuild.
