00:05that affect young men, young boys and young adults.
00:08In this particular episode, we're going to focus on what changes that happens in the testicle.
00:20Testicle is the engine of growth spurts.
00:23This is the generation or initiation of the actual puberty itself.
00:28However, when the testicles start changing in shape and size, boys or young men need to have a habit of
00:35self-examination
00:36and knowing exactly what's wrong with their testicle.
00:40For the number one thing that they need to be worried about is if there is a testicular pain.
00:47When testicular pain occurs in young men who undergoes puberty or end of puberty, it's a condition called torsion.
00:55Torsion of the testicle occurs when the testicles are twisted and that deprive of oxygen
01:01and that itself is crucially painful and it is a medical emergency.
01:07Because if you don't get it fixed or untwisted within six hours,
01:11then the testicle will be undergoing necrosis and infarction and you'll lose that testicle.
01:18So therefore, if a boy intermittently feel a testicle being twisted or pain,
01:24you need to see a doctor because an examination itself will determine whether your testicle need untwisting
01:30and fixing to avoid further twisting in the future.
01:34In addition to that, another condition that affects the testicle will be testicular cancer.
01:40Believe it or not, testicular cancer occurs in young adults from the age of 15 to 35
01:45and therefore, an examination of the testicle, especially a testicle that feels like your knuckles,
01:51which is lumpy in appearance and also completely painless, is cancer until proven otherwise.
01:57There are many other conditions that can actually cause swelling of the testicles as well.
02:02For example, a hernia, which can happen in late adolescence,
02:06or hydrocele, which is collections of fluid in the testicle,
02:11or infection that is quite painful,
02:15and lastly, epididymal cyst.
02:17In fact, the easiest way to find out is a very non-invasive examination
02:22called ultrasound scan of the testicle.
02:25So if you do a regular self-examination,
02:27for example, fortnightly examination when you're showering,
02:30if you notice anything different, anything unusual at all,
02:34go and see a doctor, one non-invasive test will slowly and surely ensure you
02:41the diagnosis is made quickly,
02:43and if it was cancer or torsion,
02:45then you avoid yourself a big, big trouble in the future.
02:48So for the month of September,
02:51we just passed this whole day of International Sexual Health Day.
02:57So we're going to talk about a few sexual health things.
02:59What better thing to talk about is sexually transmitted infection.
03:03So we're going to discuss various things such as syphilis,
03:06herpes, and also other things such as HIV,
03:10and also gonorrhea and chlamydia.
