00:00In the short term, I think the Yankees are ruining George Lombard Jr.
00:06In the short term.
00:07You know, I came on the air last night.
00:09I said the Yankees should give Lombard a day off.
00:12I thought it was the perfect time for a day off.
00:14Five errors in five games.
00:15That was going into the game tonight.
00:17And I said, look, final game of the series against the Astros.
00:20If he commits another error, now you go into this series against the Red Sox,
00:24the biggest series of the year.
00:25And Lombard and his struggles defensively.
00:28By the way, he's struggling offensively too.
00:30But defensively, to me, it's a bigger story.
00:32Because you assume, based on his pedigree and also what you saw early on,
00:37you figured he's going to be a great defensive player.
00:40So this is really a shock to the system that this is happening.
00:45I thought if you game a day off, let him clear himself mentally,
00:49and then you go into a series against the Red Sox, clean slate,
00:53it would be the right thing for George.
00:55And the best thing for George.
00:57And I said, if he commits another error in this final game of the series against Houston,
01:00it could snowball and become out of control.
01:02Big story.
01:03I mean, you go into this Red Sox series,
01:05it's always heightened, things that happen in a Red Sox series.
01:08People are gassed up for Boston.
01:10And these two teams are fighting for a division title.
01:14And I think if he commits another error, you could hear the Boo Birds.
01:17Now, he's got to get over that.
01:18It happens to every player in this town.
01:20But still, you know, for a young player, it could ruin him in the short term.
01:24Long term, I think he's going to be great.
01:25But short term, it could ruin him.
01:26And Boone was asked after the game,
01:28do you think a day off for Lombard would do him good?
01:31And Boone said no, which I vehemently disagree with.
