Step into the fascinating world of Leonardo da Vinci, one of the most celebrated artists and creative minds in history!
Born near Vinci, Italy, in 1452, Leonardo trained in Florence in the workshop of the renowned artist Andrea del Verrocchio. He eventually became much more than a painter—he explored sculpture, architecture, engineering, anatomy, science, invention, and the natural world.
🎨 Leonardo created some of the most recognizable works in Western art. His masterpieces include the mysterious Mona Lisa and the monumental Last Supper. The Last Supper was painted on the wall of the refectory at Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan and became one of his greatest artistic achievements.
One of the secrets behind Leonardo's extraordinary paintings was his mastery of light, shadow, expression, and incredibly subtle transitions between tones. His famous Mona Lisa demonstrates sfumato, a technique that creates soft transitions rather than hard outlines and contributes to the portrait's mysterious atmosphere.
📓 Leonardo was also endlessly curious. His surviving notebooks contain drawings and observations covering subjects ranging from anatomy and geometry to hydraulics, machines, engineering, and nature. Some of his notes were famously written in mirror writing—from right to left.
Leonardo spent his final years in France, serving King Francis I, and died there in 1519. More than 500 years later, his extraordinary combination of art, observation, imagination, and experimentation continues to fascinate the world.
