Months before a Florida teenager was accused of killing his own mother, newly released bodycam footage revealed there were already some serious warning signs. 17-year-old Collin Griffith had a troubled history with his mother, Catherine, and police had been called over conflicts between them before her death. During one encounter, Collin told authorities he didn't want to return home and actually wanted to be placed in foster care instead. Bodycam footage shows Collin explaining that he and his mother were constantly arguing. At one point, he insisted he wasn't a murderer and claimed he just wanted to peacefully leave or find a way for them to coexist. His grandmother, however, challenged his version of what happened. Things became even more concerning after Collin was released from custody following one of those incidents. According to reports, he was sent back to his mother's home, but just hours later, authorities were contacted again after jail staff reported that Collin had allegedly made threats about killing his mother. Then, in September 2024, everything took a deadly turn. Authorities say Collin called 911 and reported that his mother had fallen onto a knife and was bleeding from her neck. But after an autopsy was performed, the medical examiner determined that his explanation wasn't consistent with what they found. Investigators began treating Catherine's death as a homicide, and Collin was ultimately accused of killing his mother. But this wasn't the first time Collin had been connected to the death of a parent. In February 2023, while the family was living in Oklahoma, Collin's father was fatally shot. Collin was initially arrested in connection with that case, but authorities ultimately determined he had acted in self-defense and he wasn't convicted. Afterward, he moved to Florida to live with his mother. Now, the previously released bodycam footage is providing a look at the escalating problems inside the family months before Catherine was killed. This is body-cam footage of the events.
