00:23jimmy
00:24ogun ladja jimmy started modeling in nigeria 20 years ago then moved south now he's showing the
00:30next generation how to own the runway you first in modeling in catwalk especially confidence is key
00:36because confidence is what actually self-close so you gotta develop a character you gotta be wonder
00:42woman you gotta be something you do not break character till you walk out of the runway i used
00:50to do modeling as a child then again in early adulthood so i've come to jimmy's catwalk training
00:57course because i need some refreshment so i can gain confidence again as well as just see what's
01:04new in the industry so i'm clued up i've always wanted to be a model this lady um she was
01:11doing
01:11a photo shoot at camps bay beach she comes in she's like i'd like someone like you very tall
01:17dog that's what we're looking for so she was very very interested in me i imagine myself as like
01:23this strong goddess and i can do anything and i'm here and i'm rocking and in my head i'm like
01:29boom boom
01:30boom but i like needed a portfolio and stuff that's why i came also to jimmy it does help a
01:36lot because
01:36like there's a lot of things that are going through your mind behind the glossy reels the grind is real
01:43competition is fierce and confidence can collapse at the first casting that's why jimmy's drills
01:49aren't just steps their survival skills as a model it's not going to be you know all glam and glitz
01:57all
01:58the time it's seasonal and then is the money you made from this three months able to sustain you for
02:04the rest of the year what i want for young models in africa now is to have enough money in
02:11their
02:12pockets all the time in 2013 he founded the jimmy stereo catwalk academy in cape town to coach new
02:19faces and sharpened pros jimmy also trains models and hits a video production for sa meanswear fashion
02:26week and creates content for spice tv africa's dedicated fashion channel on dstv so he's plugged into
02:33what the industry wants i believe you have to also think outside the box of modeling because
02:40myself as an example i do video production i edit myself apart from just training the model we stand
02:46as a production house we provide work opportunity directly for a model we're preparing for a
02:52fashion shoot it's going to be a campaign for a clothing house which is sartorial clothes modeling
02:58is about who you know so i'm really hoping jimmy can teach me how to network and just try to
03:03build
03:04my name in the industry off camera as well they want all of you all of you to shoot a
03:11campaign for
03:11them so i'm preparing my models for it getting them ready making sure that they bring their a game
03:16everything with men is power you know you're in control i'm in charge let's shoot i think you're ready
03:22let's fire at the academy you'll do a polaroid test shoot learn castings on camera performance
03:30social media hygiene and yes how to pose like you belong when you're bikini you're almost you know
03:38this is you this is who you are this is when we need you to now bring the energy you
03:42need to constantly
03:43communicate without saying a word that i'm comfortable i'm confident i can do this if you're
03:48not comfortable with any position or any posture or that compromises you please please feel free
03:54voice out jimmy brings a lot with him he doesn't only bring his big achievements but he is a mental
04:03to me he literally teaches us about life lessons how to fend for ourselves jimmy has taught us that if
04:11you're not comfortable with anything that anyone has to say to you maybe they might be touching us in
04:17a wrong way we can actually tell him to stop and if they continue to do so we can walk
04:23out
04:25funways used to favor narrow standards but across africa there's momentum for more diverse bodies
04:30and identities working in both south africa and nigeria two powerhouses with different vibes
04:37jimmy pushes representation wherever he is
04:42there's a growing demand for inclusivity now back in the days you have to fit into a specific
04:48criteria sometimes it's even racial and then rihanna came with fenty and then this victoria
04:54secret fashion show we saw plus size models we didn't just see a change we saw happiness we saw a
05:00revolution there's no fashion week now that happens without inclusivity it's a demand you have to have
05:06plus size models you have to have models of color lgbtq they all have something to add to the game
05:13inclusivity is very big and it's creating such a way young men and women looking at someone on a
05:20ball board in a magazine that looks like them is very important i can tell you i make more money
05:26now
05:26with inclusivity if you're short and beautiful you think you've got something to show step forward we'll
05:32tell you what is marketable or not and we're marketing models who are comfortable in their skin
05:37it's time for the shoot they've been waiting for
05:43i'm improving the quality of modeling i'm bringing more platforms for models to showcase their craft
05:49everything really i am excited to do i'm hoping that i get to travel get noticed by like big clients
