00:00It was supposed to be a site that created 10,000 jobs for families in Genesee County, just outside the
00:06city of Flint.
00:07Now, you all know what 10,000 jobs would mean in Genesee County and in the city of Flint.
00:13When we make ideological decisions to do things like take sources of energy off the table,
00:20when we, as a country, create a chaotic tariff regime that changes multiple times,
00:30and are reckless in the way that we approach trade in general, and what is important for business to thrive,
00:37it's that chaos that causes businesses to close.
00:41Because what we all know, what every business owner will tell you,
00:45from the head of an auto company to our local flower shop, businesses rely on stability to get by.
00:53So, the instability in the market, the clawback of incentives,
01:02the elimination of a major product that SK Siltron is building,
01:08those are the things that caused them to not just shudder,
01:12but they were in the process of growing when they launched here.
01:16This was actually a key in bringing advanced manufacturing back to Michigan,
01:20and those doors are closed.
01:21But I also want to say that this isn't just what happened with SK Siltron.
01:25We're actually seeing it across the state.
01:27The Mundy Township site in Genesee County was supposed to be a site for chips.
01:36It was supposed to be a site that created 10,000 jobs for families in Genesee County,
01:41just outside the city of Flint.
01:43Now, you all know what 10,000 jobs would mean in Genesee County and to the city of Flint.
01:50Those are the things that are going away as a result of the economic policies of this administration,
01:55and it's incredibly important that we acknowledge that now and we reverse course.
02:00Because every single day in our office, we are getting calls from people who can't afford their health insurance,
02:05who want to know where the local food bank is,
02:08who are worried about this time of year because it's school supply season.
02:12These are real day-to-day things for people in our community, but it's also about our future.
02:18Because we're a state like ours that was built and founded on our ability to make things,
02:24a state that put the world on wheels.
02:27We are the people that are going to be able to bring the next revolution of advanced manufacturing into this
02:32country,
02:33and we can lead that way in Michigan, and we have the ability to do that,
02:36not just in Michigan, but right here in our communities.
02:39And I am very concerned about our ability to equip our kids and our community
02:45with 21st century advanced manufacturing jobs.
02:49That is always going to be the point.
02:51That is always going to be the agenda.
02:53We need to do everything we can from the local to the state to the federal to make sure that
02:57happens,
02:57and we need Washington to work with us, not against us.
