00:00This is so spoilery, but yeah, but it's it's hopefully this comes out after the movie
00:10Did you ever consider the full chaos idea of calling this movie? I know what you did last summer 28
00:15days later
00:17Years later 27 years later. No, we didn't but maybe we should call Sony
00:25We did was were there any other considerations for the title? No because it's its own story and because it
00:33is its own
00:34Accident that has nothing to do with the original accident. That's what it is
00:38You know what I mean? Like because we've kind of like yes
00:40We bring in the the you know Freddie and Jen
00:43But it is its own kind of contained entry and they did something last summer. So there's kind of no
00:49other
00:50Title for me. How long do you actually think that each of you would survive if you were being hunted
00:55by a serial killer?
00:56No time. Zero time. Zero amount of time. It's like
01:00He has a crazy hook. Oh, is that this other serial killer? Sure. Yeah, if you want. Yeah. Yeah, he
01:07has
01:08The fisherman has millions and millions of weapons
01:12Millions and millions of weapons
01:14At his disposal. I think my panic would would get the best of me and
01:20I think the first couple moves
01:22I think I would make the right choices and then I would start to think about it too much and
01:27I would panic and I would make a wrong move and then
01:30Listen, I think we've all picked up some tricks of the trade and after filming this movie
01:35Yeah, if the fights with the serial killer could be like choreographed dances, I'd say that
01:39That would be pretty good. And at half speed. Yeah, at half speed, too fast. Yeah, and if you could
01:45say time out if it goes wrong
01:46Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. They come in through the door and say, okay, let's just block it. Yeah, yeah, pretty
01:49nice little cushion on the ground
01:51Uh-huh. Big mud.
01:55Oh my god. I'm calling out on one. Everyone chill out!
01:58We don't tell anybody what happened tonight. We should go
02:04Having made this film after the experience of making the studio
02:07Did it color like the idea of making a franchise film at all? That's a good question. I think I
02:13was
02:14I was a lot of IP floating around right now as we all know and I actually had received a
02:20couple other
02:22IP sort of projects
02:24From my agents, but this one stood out to me as something that was very exciting and actually I mean
02:31The whole cast of the studio. They were kind of the age of like when this original movie came out
02:36So they're excited. They're excited. They're fans, but it don't it did color it in the sense that I feel
02:42like I got a lot of comedic
02:44It was a comedic masterclass and bringing that into this helped a lot in terms of just bringing some levity
02:51to this
02:55You need to handle this
02:57This isn't the first time there's been violence like this in Southport. It's not going to stop
03:12When did you get the idea to have her be the killer and what was your first reaction to getting
03:16that news?
03:16Yeah, you start with her cuz the big swing the big swing is her
03:21Um instantly like when Sony came to me and said would you want to do this?
03:25I kind of had two things that I said yes, but I want to kill basically everyone
03:30I don't want to make a movie where we're setting up a franchise with you know, you have seven characters
03:35and six survive
03:36I was like we're killing a lot of people body counts higher
03:39And then I knew that when I really sat down and thought about where would these people be and how
03:45could this?
03:46Change a person especially knowing that they each have kind of their tethers in the movie in the young cast
03:52What would that look like and so I said and I'm I think Ray would be the killer
03:58I want ready to be the killer and Sony said yes, and then I was very nervous
04:01I brought it to Freddie Freddie said yes
04:03Yeah, she
04:05like I said she took a big swing and you know
04:08There's a lot of pressure in that comes along with that
04:11I know that it's gonna make some die-hard fans upset because it should break their hearts
04:17That was kind of my goal in the performance
04:19Um, it's why I try to play him so vulnerable and broken
04:22Um in in the hopes for that that's that's all deliberate
04:25But at the same time as as scary as that is, it's just as exciting
04:30I've never gotten to do that ever
04:32I've never gotten to be the man in the mask
04:34I've never gotten to be the monster and Hollywood is not going to allow that ever
04:40Um, and when she was like yo, you get to you get to do this you get to be this
04:44I just had to know why and how and once those questions were answered. I said yes
04:48And it was before the script was even written
04:50It was just based off the idea and her her thought and and effort and energy that she put into
04:56to ray
04:56And where he would be now at this point in his life
04:59Well, they even kind of dig down on that
05:00I mean, how did you kind of think about his his marriage to julie and kind of what they went
05:05through?
05:05And then obviously the events in the town to kind of cover up the events
05:08Yeah, I mean look I have a lot of friends whose relationships didn't work out for for a plethora of
05:13reasons
05:14And uh, sometimes it's trauma and not dealing with that trauma and and that that sort of shortens your fuse
05:21Over years and little things start setting you off and it's not really connected to what just happened
05:26It's connected to something that happened years ago. So there's a lot of bringing that to work with you
05:30Um, which isn't fun, but in between the words action and cut
05:34It's a blast because you get to kind of demonstrate it and execute it and show people what you've prepared
05:38And then hopefully you're able to kind of let all that go and see what happens in the moment
05:43You know what I mean?
05:44It all depends on kind of how the days how the days flow and it depends dictates on on how
05:49far you go in a scene
05:50But but once I knew the reason why and I knew how I could play a broken man because that's
05:56what ray is at this point
05:57He's not this this blue-collar hero anymore. He has been broken by this
06:01He didn't deal with it and trauma either makes you or breaks you
06:04I know people that it's made stronger and I know people that it's broken into and uh, this is
06:10So spoilery, but uh, yeah, but it's it's hopefully this comes out after the movie
06:14And uh, and yeah, he's he's a broken man and this is the result your scene with sarah michelle geller
06:19Which is it's so I mean, she's a genre legend. What was it like having that moment with her?
06:24Oh, it was awesome. Um, god, I mean awesome doesn't even cover it. It was iconic. It was amazing. It
06:29was so like
06:30I called my parents at the end of the day and I was like, oh my god
06:34I just like did something really cool
06:37Even just to have all the ogs come back and just be on set and be a part of it
06:43and to give their blessing is is one thing
06:45But then to be in a scene with be sarah michelle geller
06:51Who's helen is my danish blueprint, you know is is really really special and um
06:59I don't know it's it's really indescribable and it's probably one of the most iconic days of my life
