JP and BMitch don't believe the Jayden Daniels situation is a distraction to the team, and BMitch is sick of people comparing Daniels to Burrow.

00:00This Jaden Daniels stuff continues,
00:02and I think it's particularly relevant now
00:06because Jaden himself, not an actor on his behalf,
00:11but Jaden himself posted something,
00:14which is not really how he operates.
00:17That's a dude that just kind of moves in silence most of the time,
00:21just stays above the fray.
00:22But he posted to his Instagram of this situation with LSU
00:29I've been locked in on training camp,
00:31and that's been my number one focus.
00:32I have a lot of gratitude for my time at LSU,
00:35and I'm proud of what my teammates and I accomplished there.
00:38Obviously, there are issues to be worked out between my team and LSU,
00:41and my hope is that will get done privately.
00:43My sole personal focus is on Commander's football.
00:46I realize the business of football is unique,
00:48and I trust this can all be resolved.
00:50And then he had a Tiger emoji, the LSU Tigers,
00:53and the Rays Hail, I assume, emoji.
00:56I don't know what that little word is.
00:57And I think after that, he addressed everything.
01:00He said it's an issue.
01:02Hope it get worked out.
01:03I'm focusing on football.
01:05What else needs to be discussed?
01:07I said this yesterday on air.
01:09I never have had any, like, the slightest .0001%
01:17that Jaden wouldn't be focused on football.
01:20Yeah.
01:21Like, I've watched him throughout camp.
01:23Whatever's going on here, I don't think this is Jaden driven.
01:26I mean, he even says.
01:27Whether it's Jaden driven or not, what he just stated addresses every little thing.
01:34But this is the problem with people.
01:38An athlete talks, he's not supposed to talk.
01:41If an athlete doesn't talk, well, he got to say something.
01:44So, he's damned if he's due, damned if he don't.
01:47I think what he said is perfect.
01:51I'm focusing on the job at hand.
01:53This is an issue I think is going to be taken care of, and we'll take care of it privately.
01:57Let's move forward.
01:59But people won't let it go forward.
02:01Because everybody want to keep discussing it and make it like it's something with him.
02:05No, it's something with the individuals that want to keep talking about it.
02:08It's something with them.
02:11Yeah, I mean, it's tricky to want it to be private at this point when it has become very public.
02:16But it's going to be handled privately.
02:19It's not going to be handled publicly anyway.
02:21We, you talking, me talking, every other radio show around this country talking, ain't going to solve a damn thing.
02:28Those people behind closed doors are going to solve something, right?
02:30I mean, it's kind of gotten to a legal issue now, which is where it becomes public.
02:35But legal still is handled where?
02:38Behind closed doors.
02:40I don't think this is actually going to go to court.
02:42I think this will.
02:43My guess is Jaden's statement is like, let's shut the door on this.
02:48I mean, he says my team, whoever that team is, I think this is also Jaden telling his side of
02:54things, let's quiet this down.
02:55Because I was blown away the amount of fuel that got on that fire yesterday.
03:02Kind of over the course of our show, it was like kind of happening.
03:06Like, remember, I think it was the one o'clock hour when there were like three new stories coming out
03:10of Louisiana.
03:11Because let's be very real what's going to happen here.
03:14The people that are LSU Tiger supporters are going to go super hard in their defense of the program and
03:25in lane and everything else.
03:26So, like, once that statement hits ESPN and you had both the lawsuit get out or the cease and desist
03:35letter, let's be clear, it's not a lawsuit.
03:36Once that letter was out and then there was a spokesperson for Daniels that made a statement, that's what made
03:43it all public.
03:43Like, it was private prior to that.
03:45And it could have been LSU that leaked the cease and desist letter.
03:48That's the whole thing.
03:49But the whole problem is this.
03:51I said it yesterday and I'll keep saying it.
03:54Every time a situation like this occurs, everybody wants to quiet the athlete.
04:00I don't think so.
04:01I don't feel that way.
04:02You may not feel that way, but that's how everything goes because everyone wants to pile on and make it
04:06seem like he's so wrong.
04:07He has every damn right to do what he's doing.
04:10No matter what anybody want to think, he has every right to do it.
04:13But he said something that basically said, listen, I'm focusing on football and this problem is going to be taken
04:20care of.
04:20That's why people hire lawyers to do their jobs.
04:23Okay.
04:23And once he says that, that's a problem to everybody too.
04:28So, if he didn't say nothing, then why isn't Jayden talking?
04:32You know what I'm saying?
04:32I listen to all this stuff and it's always the thing of quieting the athlete.
04:39And I think the whole thing is, that's that shut up and play football type of mindset.
04:43No.
04:44They're human beings.
04:45They have a right to speak on what they want to speak on.
04:48If they feel like they're wrong in any way, they have a right to defend themselves too.
04:53I think, I totally agree.
04:56I think if he is at a point where he wanted this to become public, however it became public, that
05:05does not strike me as how Jayden operates at all.
05:07And I think his statement is, all of this, everything that has happened within his rights, as a person, as
05:14an athlete, as a Heisman Trophy winner at LSU.
05:17I think the only thing, and I said this before Jayden's statement, I never thought this was an issue for
05:26him.
05:26I think you've got a character in Lane Kiffin in Baton Rouge, and you've got whoever on Jayden's team decided
05:36to make this a public issue.
05:41I don't know if it, you keep saying somebody on his team made it public.
05:45They had a, a Jayden Daniels spokesperson made a statement.
05:48They made a statement, and I think LSU also, as much as anything, wants this out here too.
05:53So let's not try to act like one side is the only one wanting it.
05:56I'm not, I just said Lane Kiffin, the kid's dad came out.
05:59So everybody's speaking on it, it's public.
06:02No matter how it got public, it's public.
06:04I don't think, I don't think his side was trying to push it, because, let's be real,
06:08I think his side is smart enough to understand if we throw it out there, it's going to become a
06:11big storm.
06:12So I think both sides want it, it'll benefit it to being publicly for LSU more than anything.
06:17I don't think it benefits anybody.
06:19It benefits LSU.
06:20Does it?
06:21Because, yeah, like, man, Jay, you, you, you got to understand, and you, you watch this all the time.
06:26Athletes are always pooped on when it comes to be a public thing, because we are always supposed to turn
06:31the back, be nice to everybody.
06:33We got to turn the cheek.
06:35No, you don't have to do that every time.
06:36I agree.
06:37So every time it becomes public, everybody normally jumps on the athlete.
06:41I have been surprised.
06:42Well, he, well, he's been, people say he's been petty.
06:45Hell, Lane Kiffin's being petty.
06:47LSU's being petty.
06:49So let's not just throw it on one side.
06:51I feel bad for the kid, for Pickett, that was this star recruit.
06:56LSU said he could wear the number, then he couldn't, now he can, now he's in the middle of all
07:01this.
07:02Like, I feel bad for that kid.
07:03My statement about entities need to start running their stuff and stop letting these coaches come in and back and
07:09forth change everything.
07:11Kelly never should have said he could wear it.
07:12If Kelly was going to back off, too.
07:14And then, when Kelly, when it got to it, Kelly was like, okay, now, this guy's not on board with
07:18this.
07:19I'm going to back off with this one.
07:20And Lane rolls in and don't have no connection to do, oh, I'm going to just give it to you.
07:25If the university were to be the one to come in and handle the stuff, it'll solve a lot.
07:30Just like I said about every professional football team, stop allowing the coach to run in and change everything about
07:35the whole damn program.
07:37Run your own program.
07:39Make it to how you want it to be and keep it that way.
07:42And you'll never have these issues.
07:43It's kind of indicative of the wild card, volatile nature that LSU runs their program, I would say.
07:51But I would also say I was definitely surprised.
07:55I don't know what, if any, attention you paid to this last night.
07:59The amount of, like, social media is social media, right?
08:04But the amount of social media that was, like, I don't know that they were siding with LSU, but kind
08:09of, like, making fun of Jaden.
08:11Like, Mike Bryan was just showing me all these different memes.
08:13That's what I'm saying.
08:14That happens all the time.
08:16Did you see StubHub?
08:17That's a big national corporation.
08:19I was shocked by that.
08:20Because, you know what, BS is what sells today.
08:25Everybody wants to make fun and want to jump out and just make, they forget about the actual topics.
08:31And they just want to try to take, like, everybody that has five in something, oh, now they're changing it
08:36to four.
08:37I don't think he ever said nothing like that.
08:39You know what I'm saying?
08:40He talked to one entity.
08:42He didn't say nothing to every entity.
08:45So the whole thing of it is, that is why I don't pay attention to a lot of that crap.
08:50Because the more you pay attention, the more dumb everybody get when you pay attention to social media 24-7.
08:55And, yes, it's a lot of information going around of it.
08:58A lot of the damn information is wrong.
08:59A lot of it is just to be, to agitate and start issues.
09:03And if that's the way you want to run your life, run your life like that.
09:06I don't.
09:07I think, listen, I do not think and have not thought all week Jaden Daniels is going to play tonight.
09:15I haven't thought since December Jaden Daniels would play in the preseason opener.
09:21And when Tonson got hurt, they probably made it even more he wasn't going to play.
09:24Agreed.
09:25But all that said, I don't think if he does play, if he does or doesn't play tonight, has absolutely
09:33nothing to do with events over the last 24 hours.
09:35I think any fool that thinks that him not playing or playing has something to do with what happened over
09:41the last 24 hours, you're exactly that.
09:43A damn fool.
09:46And if I'm talking to people and you feel a certain kind of way, talk to me directly.
09:51I'll handle it.
09:52I'm good with it.
09:53Yeah.
09:54I don't think he was ever going to play tonight.
09:56I don't think it has anything to do with events of the last 36 hours.
10:01I think you saw quarterbacks all over the country not play in the preseason opener last night.
10:06There were a bunch of games last night.
10:08Kind of watched some of it.
10:09We did have a tie.
10:11I feel like that's a good way for preseason.
10:12People are calling in.
10:13We haven't even asked for calls, but I'll let people weigh in.
10:16Tricky is in D.C.
10:18Tricky, what's up, man?
10:20We met you, Finley.
10:21What's up?
10:22What's happening?
10:22I'm calling, man, because of the shrapnel and the way Jaden's name was dragged, not even nationwide yesterday, but on
10:34our own station.
10:36He was called Teddy and all this.
10:39And they kept trying to compare, well, Joe Burrow won a championship, you know, Jaden didn't, and this and that.
10:47It's not about who won what.
10:50But if a player who didn't win anything was promised the same thing that a player that won a championship
10:59in a Heisman Trophy was promised, it's about the promise.
11:04If they promised Jaden and they promised Joe Burrow, both of them, that your number would never be worn again,
11:11and then Jaden's number is given out, he has every right to be upset.
11:15I don't see nobody wearing number nine, and I'm sure nobody never will wear number nine.
11:20So to describe Jaden's team as being petty and all that, that's crap to me.
11:27And his team is handling it.
11:29This has nothing to do with Jaden's performance or anything.
11:33And that's just why.
11:34And they were saying that Joe Burrow, well, he wouldn't ask nobody not to wear his number.
11:39You don't know what Joe Burrow has.
11:40Joe Burrow might, they might have tried to get number nine out, and Joe Burrow shut it down.
11:46You have no idea.
11:48I still think it is crazy.
11:50Thank you for the call, Tricky.
11:52He played there three years ago.
11:54We are losing that in this argument.
11:57Oh, I'm not losing it.
11:58In this discussion.
11:59Like, he was there three years ago.
12:01Yo, that means they promised the kid the number two years after he played there.
12:06Yeah, one year.
12:08Right, because they were recruiting him.
12:09Yeah, yeah.
12:10See, the thing of it is, this is the whole thing.
12:17When people just want to go against something, they try to justify it.
12:22That, oh, they won a championship.
12:24It'll make a damn difference.
12:26Heisman Trophy is the reason that you get numbers retired and things of that nature.
12:30Things that you did as an individual is what does that.
12:34Like, everyone that tells me about they won a championship,
12:36so every damn number on the team is supposed to be retired then, right?
12:40No.
12:41So, why is it that the one guy has to have his number retired?
12:46The rest of the guys played great, too.
12:48He has some unbelievable athletes on that field.
12:50I mean, number one was out there, too.
12:52It comes down to the fact that they won the Heisman Trophy.
12:55The championship doesn't weigh into this at all.
12:58I think it does, but I also think it's irrelevant.
13:01But that's what I'm saying.
13:02We don't need to reach for the borough conversation.
13:04You think it does, Jay, and that's what I'm saying.
13:05It's trying to find a way to justify what the hell has happened.
13:09It's all about the Heisman Trophy.
13:12That is why it had nothing to do with the championship.
13:15The championship is a whole team thing.
13:17Heisman is an individual thing.
13:19In essence, it's a team thing as well because you didn't get it by yourself.
13:23A lot of people help you.
13:24It's about the Heisman Trophy.
13:25That is like the biggest award you could get in college football, okay?
13:31And to try to justify it with the, oh, they won the championship.
13:35It ain't his fault that his defense sucked.
13:38That's LSU's fault for not having a damn good defense.
13:43I think the need to compare it to borough is kind of missing the plot anyway.
13:50Like, I don't particularly understand the relevance of comparing the two, right?
13:58The relevance of comparing the two is let's be right.
14:01Let's not try to avoid.
14:03Let's be real about everything it is.
14:05It's a white quarterback and a black quarterback at a school,
14:07and his number was giving out to the other person.
14:09Just like back in the day when on this football team with the offensive lineman.
14:14Certain guys got paid without ever asking for a contract.
14:17Another guy that asked for a contract was dragged through the mud.
14:20It happens in society.
14:21It happens in the United States.
14:22It happens in the media.
14:24That is why it's been, that's why they're trying to compare it, okay?
14:27And to try to just act like, oh, they never think of it like that.
14:31That's straight BS.
14:31I grew up in Louisiana.
14:33I grew up around LSU.
14:34I know the history of a lot of LSU crap.
14:36So let's not sit up here, and like I'm saying, you got the dude, Lane Kiffin,
14:40who tried to throw a damn hand grenade at Ole Miss on his way out.
14:45LSU is no better.
14:46They got a history as despicable as Ole Miss.
14:51So let's be real about this thing.
14:53We try to get to society and try to get to a point,
14:56and we always avoid the elephant in the damn room.
15:00That's the elephant in the room.
15:02That is why it's being discussed so much because Joe's never had to deal with
15:06this situation.
15:07You know why?
15:07Because they never let nobody put on this number.
15:09They probably never promised the number to nobody.
15:12So that's it.
15:12It's insane they promised the number a year after he played there because they
15:16don't care.
15:17You know, recruiting is a lot of promises.
15:21In other words, it's a lot of lies.
15:23People say anything to get you to sign that contract.
15:26They say anything to get you into that program.
15:29It happens.
15:30But I think the mere fact that they, when they say it felt disrespectful,
15:36I 100% agree.
15:38And anybody on this station that talk on the air and say a lot of stuff,
15:42we can have a direct conversation.
15:44I heard a little stuff after we got off yesterday.
15:46My thing is I don't have a problem discussing face-to-face with anybody
15:49about any damn thing.
15:51But they promised something one year later?
15:53Come on, dawg.
15:54You get a Heisman Trophy anywhere.
15:56They ain't making no damn promise on no number a year later.
15:59Let's be real about that.
16:01That's disrespectful as hell.
16:02Taking that a step further, it was probably, you start recruiting a kid way
16:07before.
16:08Yeah.
16:09Like, you almost have to wonder if those conversations were happening while
16:12Jaden was there.
16:13Could have been.
16:14If the kid started.
16:15So, Jaden won the Heisman in 23.
16:20That kid was playing as a freshman in 25.
16:24Yeah.
16:25They're probably already recruiting him by 23.
16:28He's a junior in high school.
16:30Those conversations.
16:32Doug B, see if you can find out when LSU offered the kid pick.
16:36I mean, don't these kids get offers sophomore year?
16:39It was December of 2024 was when I believe.
16:42That's when he signed.
16:44That's when he signed.
16:44A lot of intent, yeah.
16:45Yeah.
16:46But they can offer these kids as freshmen.
16:48Like, go to a stunt.
16:50They can offer him as a freshman, but just because you offer him as a freshman
16:55doesn't mean that they have to come.
16:56They could change their mind by then.
16:57My point is, if they're recruiting this young man, pick it.
17:01There's no way that didn't start until Jaden was out of Baton Rouge.
17:05And if the number was so important to him, they're probably already having
17:09those conversations.
17:09Maybe.
17:10Which is insane.
17:10But once that Heisman was won, I think everybody at the point has pumped their brakes and think
17:17about something.
17:18Well, dude, he won the Heisman in December of 24.
17:21That's when the trophy gets awarded.
17:23Yes.
17:23So, the fact of feeling disrespected, that's what I mean.
17:30I think the timeline matters there.
17:32Yeah, I understand that.
17:33And that's what I'm saying.
17:34So, he has a right to be disrespected.
17:36Just like if, what if you're sitting here on these radio airwaves and they've already promised
17:43somebody your spot.
17:45Sure, it's the same damn thing.
17:48But it's amazing to me where people act as if, if they were in the exact same situation,
17:54they would just handle it so much better.
17:56They'll be pissed off too.
