00:00We are joined now by Marlee Palin and Charlie Johnson, co-founders of the Safety Navigator.
00:07Also, Tim Huckton, president and CEO of Moat Ranch.
00:11Charlie, what are some of the biggest safety challenges that camps face during the summer months?
00:16Camps are complex operating environments.
00:18They have children, amazing activities, and counselors that, you know, are sometimes youth themselves.
00:27And so they're just unique, complex operating environments.
00:31And all of the camp leaders and staff that we've met want to make sure that they're doing the best
00:35they can to keep everybody safe.
00:37Many camp directors wear so many different hats.
00:40So how does the Safety Navigator make emergency preparedness easier?
00:45At its heart, the Safety Navigator is an online platform.
00:48It's completely free for all summer camps across the U.S.
00:52And it's designed to be a summer camp one-stop shop for everything camp safety.
00:56And so there's a whole bunch of resources that they can plug in, customize to their unique camp environment.
01:02And it really helps them set the foundations of safety and then pick up some of those really fantastic preventative
01:10early emergency response activities that you can do ahead of the camp season.
01:13To make sure that if anything does happen, they're set up themselves and their teams know exactly what to do
01:19and how to respond.
01:20How important is staff training when it comes to the emergency response?
01:25Staff training is where the rubber hits the road.
01:28A great emergency action plan is a fantastic start.
01:31But at the end of the day, that's a document, often quite a long document that can sit on the
01:35shelf.
01:36What really matters is how you bring that to life.
01:38And nobody is better than the camp industry at bringing things to life, making them interactive and engaging.
01:44What does it mean to have AccuWeather as your weather partner for this tour?
01:48And why was AccuWeather such a natural fit?
01:51The AccuWeather team has been an amazing sponsor.
01:55Not only did they just hear about what we were doing and say we want to be a part of
01:59it,
01:59they're also providing safety and weather alert monitoring for us.
02:03And every day we get our email and text messages from the AccuWeather team telling us what to expect from
02:09the weather.
02:09And that is a critical safety component of the journey that we're on.
02:14And what kind of reaction do you get when you tell camp directors that AccuWeather is providing the camps weather
02:20intel,
02:20along with the SkyGuard warning services that help keep kids and workers safe during the summer, Charlie?
02:25There's been a lot of excitement from camps about having the opportunity to get access to the AccuWeather weather service.
02:32And we heard from a camp yesterday that was raving about the ability to call a meteorologist
02:37and have, you know, real-time updates and localized updates about weather on her particular camp.
02:43So there's a positive response.
02:45And I think it's an important service specific to this community.
02:50How do these real-time weather alerts complement your camp's emergency plan?
02:54We're an outdoor program.
02:56We do things outside.
02:58So knowing what the weather is going to be is phenomenal.
03:00And knowing that we've got teams that support us,
03:02it just becomes another layer in all of the layers of things that we're doing to make campers safe
03:07and have a really enjoyable and rewarding summer.
03:10Thank you for joining us today.
03:13And, again, Marlee Palin and Charlie Johnson, co-founders of The Safety Navigator,
03:18and also Tim Huchton, president and CEO of Mo Ranch.
03:21Thanks again.
