00:02Kumanjai White was a 24-year-old Walpuri man living in supported care here in Alice Springs
00:07because of his disabilities when he died after being apprehended by police officers at a supermarket
00:12in May last year. His death sparked protests across the country along with calls for an end
00:17to Aboriginal deaths in custody. The family launched a case against the NT police last month
00:23after police and the director of public prosecutions announced charges wouldn't be laid over the
00:28incident. They wanted to know who made the decision and the reasons why. The case was due to be heard
00:34in the Supreme Court today but the family says NT police have provided them with the information
00:38they were looking for including confirming the police officer who made the decision not to prosecute
00:44was NT police acting deputy commissioner Travis Wurst. We are very upset that is disgrace and
00:50disrespect to our community as well as to our family members. Now we know that it was Travis
00:57that all the decisions were made by him. The family have vowed to keep fighting to find out why charges
01:04against police weren't laid while the family's lawyers are looking into whether they will challenge
01:10the decision.
