00:00the jared verse hype train has officially left the station and honestly it wasn't it didn't just
00:06leave when brian baldinger was on the pat mcafee show uh it left the the train about four weeks
00:13ago three weeks ago whenever camp started but uh let's just say brian baldinger has some big
00:18expectations for jared verse the biggest race we've ever seen was miles garrett to la in essence
00:25for jared verse jared verse is a stud and he's going to have a monster year in cleveland now
00:29he's not miles garrett nobody else is but i would say just watch out for the year jared verse has
00:34first of all he's embraced the trade he's an ohio kid he's in cleveland it's it's not the greatest
00:39situation but you wouldn't know it talking to him like just watching that kid work he's going to have
00:43a monster year in cleveland that's just one guy right now but i feel like it's a guy that probably
00:48got overlooked because of the trade we've talked to some football guys that when you're around them
00:53you just get hyped up about football jacob hester was this way at camp two weeks ago sure where he's
00:58just so there's just such an infectious thing about football baldy's that way coach riz is that
01:03way to me yeah he is a hundred percent loves loves ball in a way that you just you get
01:07excited being
01:08around him me and him nerded out about tight ends and about how to build out the tight end room
01:13over
01:13the next three years for a solid 10 minutes before practice the other day it's just how you can get
01:17into those type of convos with him and not even realize it's great i i didn't intend for that to
01:21be
01:21the conversation but it did happen so baldy's just one of those guys that like when he really is
01:26passionate about a player he does pound the table for jared verse i for for a player and certainly in
01:32this case he does it with jared verse i just think like monster year i think is really interesting
01:37because i think him just showing up and being jared verse and changing help changing the culture
01:43is the beginning of a a monster year but like jared versus never cracked 10 sacks so i do think
01:51in a
01:52season so the idea of like what does a monster year look like for jared verse i think that's
01:57pretty open-ended like i think him getting to 10 sacks this year which pales in to in comparison to
02:03what we're used to with miles i do think 10 sacks is a monster year for jared it doesn't have
02:07to all
02:07be about sacks for jared versus i think what you're getting at right like you can get more out of
02:11jared
02:12with some of the leadership stuff is that what maybe we're getting out here yeah i mean i well it's
02:16just i i think when i hear me production at the end of the day well no but i think
02:20i think the idea of
02:20like a monster last year was a monster year like miles garrett had the most prolific just from a
02:26sack production side of things that we've ever seen right right that's not what a monster year
02:32like a monster year for jared's gonna be 12 sacks uh when he was with the browns in the in
02:36the year
02:37that he got traded and got moved to detroit uh he had nine sacks that year and like with the
02:43browns
02:43and it's like zadarius zadarius yeah yeah yeah and it's like when you think about just just in the
02:47context of that nobody left thinking to themselves wow zadarius smith was awesome yeah that was nine
02:51sacks jadevion clowny at one point had a nine sack season with the browns had a two sack season with
02:56the browns but had a nine sack season with the browns and and it's not as if people left with
03:00the impression of wow clowny really ate with the browns i mean cameron wimbley had a 10 sack season
03:06and i think two years later he was auctioned off for a third round pick now that is a bit
03:10of mangini magic
03:11there but still cameron wimbley ended up becoming a kind of journeyman player in the nfl so i all right
03:18so i initially said 10 sacks because again he's never cracked the 10 sack plateau the double digit
03:24plateau i think if jared verse has has 12 sacks or more that is a monster year for a player
03:31that is
03:31still very much an ascending player the difference with verse that i think is interesting uh is that
03:36versus numbers if you go deeper into it uh he has a lot of hurries and he's got a lot
03:41of he's got a
03:41lot of hits in the quarterback that don't result in sacks and now there's always been that long time
03:45philosophy of the idea of like some people just know how to get the quarterback down and other people
03:49just don't and maybe verse just will always fall into that category of just he doesn't know how to get
03:53the quarterback down but he can do everything outside of that that's kind of been a knock on jadevion by
03:57the way like you've been a nine and a half 10 sack guy but never really 15 sack guy because
04:03there is
04:03something innate to that there is there is an ability attached to that the guys that can
04:06actually get the quarterback down and the other guys that have a lot of quarterback hits have a lot
04:10of hurries have a lot of pressures have everything and like verse hits this to a t right now at
04:15this
04:15point in his career because his his hurry numbers and his qb hit numbers and his pressures are off the
04:19charts it's actually finishing the play and getting those court getting the quarterback down that is
04:23just kind of i don't know escaped him at this point so now i because he's only been a two
04:28-year
04:29player in the nfl i do think this might be the case where he had the reverse of miles where
04:34like
04:35everybody that played with miles if miles wasn't there last year would have two or three more sacks
04:40because there were so many plays if you go back and look like mason graham may be the biggest culprit
04:45where mason graham was one half step off the quarterback and miles just got there a half
04:52step sooner you're talking about the josh allen play uh that's one of them there were a couple plays
04:56where josh allen played near the end zone where they took him back and then miles ended up getting the
05:00credit for it and it was like that was a mason graham mason literally could have had three more
05:04sacks last year i don't know why i said literally i think that's obvious in the literal sense there
05:09is obvious but like i think jared's kind of the opposite in minnesota like i think he is he's playing
05:15with byron young he's playing with all these other guys and i think he was like a half a half
05:21a half
05:21step off i almost said something else a half step off i think he also might benefit by being on
05:28a line
05:28with a lot of guys who are as good as him but not playing with a miles garrett and certainly
05:33not
05:33playing with a byron young again yeah verse in la he was with a lot of guys that just ate
05:37there's a
05:38lot of double digit sack guys on that d line there's a reason why if they add aaron donald people
05:42are
05:42talking about it as the greatest defensive line ever assembled uh so it'll be interesting to see
05:46now within that though this is something i've kind of been scared of and yes i can acknowledge how
05:50great he looks at practice and i can acknowledge that i'm really excited for jared verse while something
05:53i've told you for like five months now or three months since the deal's been made
05:57still exist and that's that's the idea that uh you're not going to get as many opportunities
06:02in this browns team as he did with the rams there's there's more opportunities there's more
06:05third and long type opportunities that are going to exist uh and more let's get after the quarterback
06:10opportunities that the rams just had being in tight games late that just weren't afforded to the
06:15browns of last year now maybe that changes maybe maybe if it's a seven or eight win team we'll see
06:19if
06:19you get to that seven eight nine ten win team area and you have the offense actually scoring maybe we
06:24do
06:25have more of those type of situations but there's a reason why people across the nfl as great as miles
06:29was in setting a sack record believe that he could have had three four more sacks if he had just
06:34been
06:34on a team that gave him the 75 more pass rush opportunities in prime time 216-474-0092
06:41at nick wilson says at j peterlin on social media and nick wilson says on nick talk uh what does
06:47a monster
06:48year from jared verse look like now this is where because i i agree like in the world in the
06:54pantheon
06:55of possibilities i do think uh that you know jared can have a monster year i just think we have
07:02to put
07:03it in the right context of what that actually is and like if jared has 10 to 12 sacks or
07:10more and then
07:11alex right has a nine sack season and mason graham has five sacks i actually i i that's to that's
07:18where
07:18my confidence is that i actually think it's gonna be better for the defense when everybody actually
07:24gets to eat i just think there has to be a recognition that jared verse does so many things
07:27outside of the sacks that that disrupts games and disrupts plays and disrupts all sorts of things
07:33let me just read some of these for you where he ranked last year across the nfl okay he was
07:37fifth
07:38in solo tackles he was second in assist he was fourth in forced fumbles he was sixth in stops
07:42he was sixth in hurries he was second in hits he was sixth in total pressure pressures that is that
07:48is game wrecking stats game wrecking numbers that again just don't come with the sack totals that
07:54typically accompany that type of production all right guys let's go with uh kurt in menor what does a
08:00monster year from jared verse look like hey there guys how we doing monster you're you can get those
08:0710 sacks and if everybody eats it can be it could be a great year i don't think he needs
08:12to have 15
08:13sacks to prove himself okay all right i know you also have a take on deshaun right oh my god
08:19yeah so
08:20i've been held holding on for a while anybody who says after two wins by watson if he starts and
08:28wins
08:29the first two games which he probably won't win he probably will start they are crazy
08:35they are freaking crazy how could you not be pissed off on the worst trade the worst signing
08:44just bonehead classic browns bonehead move how could you not still be like this guy's a jerk get
08:52him out of town he's a serial groper don't need him allegedly allegedly yeah uh kurt we appreciate you
08:59up until that last part many people alleged yeah but it's allegedly he was sued for it
09:06we appreciate you kurt okay kurt uh up until that last in that odyssey we're company guys here yeah
09:12that's it big company guys up until that last part i was like where were you an hour ago up
09:16against
09:16jeffrey could have used you there that's right could it maybe tagged in could have had a kurt versus
09:20jeffrey and then kurt just laughs after saying groped yeah yeah i don't know how to halt a conversation
09:27that's how you do it i also like uh i like anytime you have to throw an allegedly there and
09:31he starts
09:31laughing it's like i understand the point you're making kurt and we appreciate it but uh all right
09:36so here's the thing i agree and i agreed with you in your assessment that two games is not enough
09:42for
09:42me i also think we're just so starved for winning i just would be shocked if fans don't pivot on
09:48deshaun very quick because i think so many already have like when we had this conversation that's like
09:53the genesis of what's pissing me off right now is that a lot have and i'm at a spot where
09:57how has
09:57everyone forgotten four years of history already the last four years sucked and it's all responsible
10:02it's at the feet of deshaun watts but when you and i were having this comment when it when it
10:06became
10:06apparent and it was right around the nfl owners meetings that the browns were going to give him
10:10another crack at this and that he was not just going to be on the exempt list you know i
10:16i kind of lost
10:17my temper and i we had a lot of people like yes you're right we agree we had that same
10:23conversation
10:23after our at otas which was like four weeks later and all of a sudden we had less people agreeing
10:30with
10:30us then we go to uh mini camps and mandatory mini camps and then we had then it felt like
10:3650 50 like
10:37at some point in the last six months a fair amount of people have just forgotten about the bad that
10:44has
10:44come with deshaun or that we've just we've just moved on to the excitement of a potential with
10:49deshaun that we've just kind of i don't want to say all of us but that a fair amount of
10:54us have
10:54just been like nope that's in the past doesn't matter and that's just i do think that's a sign
10:59of just where we are collectively in 2026 because we're always on to the next calamity and the next
11:04potential fix i think it's wild the whole thing's wild to me like i and i think the year off
11:08helped
11:08but you said forgotten i think that's the important part here the year off helped people have
11:13forgotten that we're in this mess because of deshaun that's that's the part that people have
11:17forgotten and i don't want to seem like i'm being stubborn about it because i don't think i am it's
11:21been the four years previous four years of our lives we're supposed to be good browns teams good
11:25browns football they set this thing up to fly when they were going to get someone like deshaun
11:30watson and it absolutely sank it sank and it's all at the feet of deshaun and people are just so
11:35quick
11:35to be like oh give the guy a chance no the last four years of my life has been awful
11:42for my
11:42football perspective and it's all because of deshaun watson i'm not going to be that quick to
11:46forgive that and here's the other thing uh i think they're also giving the browns a peterlin pass
11:52it like again i spent uh roughly the first three years saying why are we shoehorning deshaun and i
11:59think you did too so i don't want to make it but like a lot of people just kind of
12:02accepted that we
12:03were trying to fit deshaun into a system he had never played before in and that he had never had
12:07success in and then we never they they never wanted to kind of attribute the lack of success
12:13to deshaun in any way to that thing because that would have meant blaming deshaun uh blaming kevin
12:19stefanski who for the betterment of the deshaun experiment here has been one of the golden boys
12:24until he wasn't so what is fascinating about this is now that kevin got fired it is well you know
12:31kevin
12:31was really the problem here and it's like did we just flip-flop did all the people who spent
12:35you know three or four years telling us we were crazy for criticizing kevin for not trying to
12:41build an offense around him and not doing a better job of doing it earlier yeah because by the time
12:46you did it he had failed for two straight years like those same people are now like well clearly
12:51it was all kevin it's like well that's not what you said for four freaking years they're lining up
12:54they're lining up to take that claim and it's just uh it's it's maddening to me the whole thing is
12:58maddening
